Sick of meeting up outside. Not everyone has a garden, loos in parks may not be there or open and the weather can be shit in Scotland (and midgies in the west).

frumpety · 02/07/2021 21:20

@MercyBooth are you OK ?

sadperson16 · 02/07/2021 21:26

I am grown up but thanks anyway.
I also have a brain. Said brain tells me it doesn't make a bit of difference to the spread of Covid if I wear a mask or not.

So don't. See your friends and family inside. If you wish to be more careful before seeing them, isolate for a week, get your shopping delivered, get tested etc. I don't see how that's soo much more risky than seeing them outside as long as you're being sensible and not having a rave. Sure it's a bit more risky but life is risky unfortunately.
MercyBooth · 02/07/2021 22:54

@frumpety Im fine Thanks Im just so sick of the "plebs" making all the sacrifices.

puppeteer · 02/07/2021 22:56

Is it even “a bit” more risky?

I mean, sure, it is by a marginal amount. (So I guess you win — it is “a bit”.)

But surely most of the risk comes from catching other stuff like colds.

True that COVID adds to that. But I’d be surprised if it adds a meaningful amount to most people.

Get back to normal.

Keep calm. Carry on.

DogFacedWoman · 03/07/2021 01:27

@Nearly47

I wish we would keep some restrictions during summertime. Take advantage of the warmer weather to keep meeting on outdoor settings, keep the mask on closed spaces, etc. It's not so difficult. All the under 18 are unvaccinated and I dread the consequences of this virus replicating unchalenged among kids. The truth is that we don't know the consequences of whatever new variant that will appear on this scenario. It would be good if people would have common sense and be cautious without compulsory measures but It is very likely that the moment restrictions are lifted the pubs will be full, employers will demand people to return to office, etc and will endup in some sort of lockdown when the NHS starts struggling again
Forever? Then what do we do when it gets colder again? Nah, fuck that.

You're simply trying to create some froth here, Mercy. The image doesn't show everyone else seated at Wimbledon who also were not wearing masks - allowable. Everyone there had to have either proof of vaccination or recent test. So, really, it shows a positive development. Shouldn't you be pleased?

Ddot · 03/07/2021 06:32

You wear a mask to protect others from your breath, I'm shocked (well not really) at how many on here are so eager to ditch it.

beardeddragon174 · 03/07/2021 06:45

I am in Wales. I can't see masks disappearing for good just yet.

Hornbill123456789 · 03/07/2021 07:02

@Ddot

I agree! It is just so simple. My Mum is post op and CEV and needs someone here 24hours. I’ve been sharing care with siblings. And arrived back here again last night for a week. She struggles to walk, is incontinent, blood pressure monitored, restricted diet, has a hole in her stomach with needs daily dressing by district nurse to heal.
If she caught Covid on top of this now (she is double vaccinated) I’m worried what might happen to her.
I had to take my school age daughter to school last week (so a risk there), and had to pick up some nappies last night - stood at the counter surrounded by 4 people not wearing a mask.
I’m just frustrated - and I often feel dominated by the choices of others who don’t want to comply. The non-mask wearing group were being very vocal in the supermarket last night, and coming into my space as I tried to keep my distance. So I just returned to my car, cleaned my hands and had a little weep. I don’t know. Maybe I am in the wrong, and should just accept now that people have had enough.
But i can see the knock on effect - I could pass something on to my Mum, my Mum could pass something on to the district nurse, the district nurse could pass something on to all the other vulnerable patients that she sees…

Ddot · 03/07/2021 07:36

We have all had enough but its tough init. Shut up and suck it up. When you loose someone close u will likely comply. I'd love to ditch the mask and cuddle my mates and 91year old mam but I'm not that selfish. I'm going to carry on being careful and testing myself if I feel off.

TeddingtonTrashbag · 03/07/2021 07:40

If you were e willing to comply with government advice to wear masks, why not be happy take their advice that they are no longer needed (if/when the give that advice?)
Hardly rational.

In the Mail today:

Voters are ready to embrace the freedom of the July 19 reopening, but fears over a Covid surge mean we may still have to wear masks.

Stuffin · 03/07/2021 07:47

I think the issue with masks (non medical ones) is that it gives some people that feeling that they are in control. That if they follow the rules they won't get ill because they are being good. That it's simply a problem with 'rule breakers' and if everyone followed the rules then no one would get ill.

Unfortunately an airborne virus gets passed simply by transmission and a piece of cloth over the mouth which actually causes me to breath deeper, quicker and heavily though the mouth thus pushing out more air and therefore more chance of passing the virus on isn't going to protect people because we all need to come into contact with others in our daily life.

Why aren't you cuddling your mum? If mine were still here nothing would stop me.

I've lost someone (my mum), and I will not be wearing a mask where I don't have to as soon as it's allowed.

I ignored their advice not to wear a face covering in the beginning as I knew they'd only said it to save PPE for medical staff. Right from March 2020 I wore a snood in a supermarket (probably not that protective but we didn't have the masks at the time and it was better than nothing). So yes, I will continue to wear a face covering in crowded indoor spaces. I can easily wear one for 5-10 minutes while I pop into a shop. I really don't see what all the fuss is about if you don't have trauma or a condition that makes wearing one painful/difficult.

It's different for staff who have to wear one all day and maybe it could be made voluntary for them after 19 July.

pawsbaws · 03/07/2021 08:37

Sorry, it’s almost certain that the government will do yet another u-turn on no masks after 19 July.

Watapalava · 03/07/2021 08:38

Nah they’ll get round it by saying strongly suggested or advised

They’ll lift the legal restriction if only to save face

zen1 · 03/07/2021 08:45

I also think they’re preparing to u-turn on masks. Top story on the BBC

I don't cuddle my mam because I love her and don't want to endanger her

Blossomtoes · 03/07/2021 08:54

They can U turn all they like, a lot of us will just ignore it. Enough’s enough.
