Be honest, did you have the vaxx for your health or for the (false) promise of freedom?

I've seen one poster say this and I'm curious what other people will answer

OP posts:

Both, but more so health

walksen · 01/07/2021 06:15

For my health. I caught covid in October 20 and it made my asthma much worse, gave me ridiculous fatigue for 6 months and heart palpitations for a few months on top. Not sure how much worse it would get if I caught it again which is quite likely without a vaccine and probably still is but hopefully now it won't have as many side effects!

SycamoreGap · 01/07/2021 07:22

Because it is the right thing to do to protect everyone’s health.

BringBackThinEyebrows · 01/07/2021 08:21

I'm very low risk and not worried for my health if I ever was to catch covid-19. I got my first Pfizer jab in May because I saw it as doing my bit for a return to normality. I don't go on holiday abroad.

I'm not planning to get the second Pfizer jab when offered because the side effects it has caused my periods are awful. The dismissive nature of the information around these particular side effects really worries me.

Gothichouse40 · 01/07/2021 08:26

I have family with health issues, didn't want to pass on Covid. I also did not think Id survive it if I got it as Im asthmatic. Regarding freedom, things were never going to be the same anyway and I can cope at the moment with the restrictions we have. As long as I can see family and friends, Im not so bothered about the rest. I do feel for people with family and friends abroad. I know many people in that situation.

LilyPond2 · 01/07/2021 14:52

@BringBackThinEyebrows Do you mind me asking the nature of the side effects (ie is it that your periods have become irregular or do you have more painful periods/ worse PMS)? How long ago did you have your jab?

PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 01/07/2021 15:00

Neither. I'm in a clinical trial. I volunteered in an attempt to get a vaccine to market as fast as possible. I didn't even know whether I'd get the vaccine or a placebo.

ThornAmongstRoses · 01/07/2021 15:12

I’m a nurse and wasn’t really given much choice Hmm

Marguerite2000 · 01/07/2021 15:52

My health and to make my own tiny contribution to herd immunity.
Freedom doesn't really come into for me, as it's restricted anyway, due to being a full time carer.

Happyrascalsmummy · 01/07/2021 15:58

I had it purely in the hope of being able to go on holiday next month 🤞

mangojango · 01/07/2021 16:08

100% freedom

PollyIndia · 01/07/2021 16:18

Well I’ve never felt worried about getting covid but I have felt insanely stressed and anxious about closing my business and trying to keep
It viable and the 45 people I employ... so I’m happy to do whatever it takes to contribute to this shitshow being over.

NotSoLongGoodbye · 01/07/2021 16:22

Because I felt coerced .... happy to be vaccinated in the future but only if I can have a choice of vaccine.

Cornettoninja · 01/07/2021 16:28

I’m quite interested to know what @Honey12346 makes of the mix of answers so far? Is it what you were expecting?

squashyhat · 01/07/2021 16:45

Health. I'm 60 with an autoimmune disease so although not officially CEV want to minimise severity as much as possible if I do catch it.

Echobelly · 01/07/2021 16:49

Totally for the freedom thing, I'm not an at-risk person, but it's perfectly reasonable for someone with health vulnerabilities to say it's for health.

Spodge · 01/07/2021 19:18

Health, primarily. I don't want Covid if it can be avoided.

BringBackThinEyebrows · 01/07/2021 22:08

@LilyPond2
Sure, that's fine.

TMI WARNING - PERIOD DESCRIPTION

I have experienced severe period pain since I was a teenager so my periods dictate my life somewhat. I track my cycle using the Fitbit app and know exactly what is normal for me.

I had my jab in the last week of May. My period was due in early June. It was 3 days late (abnormal for me) and oddly I was cramping as soon as I started (abnormal for me). The cramping was more of a discomfort than anything and I didn't need any painkillers (abnormal). I had light bleeding for 2 days (abnormal), then nothing (abnormal). I had 3 days of normal discharge.

After those 3 days, I had another period and immediately started passing several clots. I've never experienced anything like that before. I developed really painful cramps that day. Unfortunately I'd been caught out without sanitary products or painkillers. The bleeding continued for a week, still passing loads of clots.

I started my latest period yesterday, my cycle is now off. It's been a very light flow (I use a menstrual cup so can tell).

LilyPond2 · 01/07/2021 22:42

@BringBackThinEyebrows Thank you for the reply. On another thread someone posted a link to a Guardian podcast on the issue of vaccines disrupting the menstrual cycle. Two scientists in the US started doing some research on this after experiencing issues following vaccination themselves. The good news is that they found that for most women the issues seemed to settle down again within a couple of cycles. They pointed out that the ideal time to research this issue would have been during the vaccine trials when there was a control group being given a placebo. They were somewhatHmm at the fact that this wasn't done.

giantwaterbottle · 01/07/2021 22:47

For freedoms.

Wheresmybiscuit3 · 02/07/2021 00:39

My freedom

Missillusioned · 02/07/2021 01:01

Because my industry has been hammered by the virus and Im hoping if everyone gets the vaccine things will improve.

Not worried about my own health.

Rosieandjim04 · 02/07/2021 01:39

Freedom and travel

itsaccrualworld · 02/07/2021 04:03

For other people's health first, for my health second.

I've been terrified about catching Covid and passing it to someone whose body can't cope with it. I haven't been worried about dying myself, but I have been worried about getting long Covid.

Useruseruserusee · 02/07/2021 06:04

For my health and because I have a CEV child.
