I've seen one poster say this and I'm curious what other people will answer

OP posts:
motogogo · 28/06/2021 22:11

Neither, to protect the vulnerable, the immunocompromised

bengalcat · 28/06/2021 22:14

Work in the NHS - my main motivation for having it was to protect my health as wfh not an option , second protection of my family , third all the rest of its benefits

VallarMorghulis · 28/06/2021 22:17

To protect others first, for my health second

southeastdweller · 28/06/2021 22:22

Purely for selfish reasons - travel. I wouldn't have bothered otherwise.

HeronLanyon · 28/06/2021 22:29

I have had both and reasons in order -

  1. For the good of everyone including me, as part of National, no international, effort
  2. To reduce my chance of getting it or having serious effects (inextricably woven into 1 anyway).
  3. To reduce risk to a sibling having chemo and who i wanted to see as safely as possible. Contained within 1 but very particular.
‘Freedom’ or ‘travel’ or getting back to normal haven’t really featured in my decision. They don’t feel possible or of much interest until things improve.
Wegobshite · 28/06/2021 22:33

So I can hopefully travel and have freedom to travel .

If I didn’t want a bloody holiday this year or next year I wouldn’t have had if done yet . My father was and still is dreadfully ill after having his jab in Feb

I probably would have waited as long as possible but in the end I’m Selfish and I want a holiday

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 28/06/2021 22:42

Both. My freedom and safety and for everyone else's too, they go together. I've been double vaccinated and so have loads of other people, so even though cases numbers are still going through the roof hospitalisations and deaths aren't up very much. I went to the cinema last week and am travelling in the UK to visit family next week. If it wasn't for the vaccine then (a) we'd all be in lockdown and I wouldn't able to do those things at all (b) neither would anyone else and (c) I wouldn't feel safe doing them.

So vaccination is win-win.

MarshaBradyo · 28/06/2021 22:43

Both

My health and to get back to normal

SisyphusDad · 28/06/2021 22:44

Neither. You contribute to the collective pool of immunised people and help reduce the spread of the virus.

roguetomato · 28/06/2021 22:49

Exactly the same reason why I was vaxxed as a child, and I vaxxed my child.

rookiemere · 28/06/2021 22:49

So I could go on holiday abroad and to get us out of lockdown as quickly as possible oh and also to reassure my DPs that it's ok for me to visit.

DH and I both had what we are pretty sure was covid back in March 2020, we survived and have been quite blasé about doing what we can when we could even though we're both early 50s.

Turkishangora · 28/06/2021 22:54

100% to get us out of this mess and get our freedoms back. Not remotely concerned about getting covid, never have been, like the vast majority of the population I'm not in a high risk group. I also want vulnerable people to not feel scared anymore. The "long covid" thing doesn't worry me either, if I'm going to get post viral syndrome (which is what it actually is) I could get it from any virus. I speak as someone who was ill for months with glandular fever as a teenager. I also had it so children and young people could have their education, opportunities and livelihoods back, as they are the ones who've collectively made the greatest sacrifice in all of this.

Winkywonkydonkey · 28/06/2021 22:57

Not at all worried about covid. I had it because it means we can all get out of it and move on.

bluetongue · 28/06/2021 23:00

Because vaccination is the only way out of this and I’d be pretty fucking selfish to expect everyone else to take the tiny risk of vaccination on my behalf. I don’t usually get a flu vaccine and I’ve never been scared of getting Covid myself but I guess it’s always possible it could make me very sick so avoiding that is a bonus.

I had my first Pfizer vaccination on Sunday. My arm is pretty sore and yesterday I had a headache and a bit of dizziness. Still went to work as normal though (pretty sure many of my colleagues would have used it as an excuse for a sick day though).

Germolenequeen · 28/06/2021 23:01

To be able to travel. Otherwise I wouldn’t have had it and I’m no anti vaxer.
This - I certainly wouldn't have rushed into it otherwise 😕

blueshoes · 28/06/2021 23:07

For my health. As I already had and recovered from COVID with confirmed antibodies, the double vax is probably of some but not much more benefit. I do it to benefit others and achieve herd immunity.

Why when in the UK the vaccine is freely available would I not take it. It is not as if it will go to someone in India who more desperately needs it. It is supremely wasteful and selfish not to take it up.

TheGirlWhoLived · 28/06/2021 23:08

For freedom and for others, I’m really worried I’m going to have adverse effects and die though

Wobblysausage · 28/06/2021 23:08

To keep my job

whatswithtodaytoday · 28/06/2021 23:09

For my health, I have been terrified of getting Covid. Also a big part is to protect my vulnerable parents and friends as much as possible.

Freedom will come when the virus is under control.

Getyourjab · 28/06/2021 23:15

To get us out of this and back to normal as quickly as possible and to protect others.
If I’d prioritised my own welfare I would have waited for the longer term safety data before having the vaccine.

palesilver · 29/06/2021 00:14

Freedom, to travel and attend events. I'm young and healthy and I've never been worried about getting Covid badly. I've stuck to all the rules but I've got out and about as much as we've been allowed to, in London with high case numbers at times, and either never managed to get it or got it completely asymptomatically.

jumpbounce · 29/06/2021 00:20

In the hope that it provides some protection against both catching it, therefore protecting my own health (even though I'm young, I lost a friend under 40 with no underlying health conditions to covid just after christmas) and also in the hope that it will reduce my ability to pass on asymptomatic covid to anyone else especially my young DC who is vulnerable but cannot be vaccinated.
I've had other vaccinations to protect others, mainly those too vulnerable to be vaccinated themselves so I don't see this one as any different.

PrincessNutNuts · 29/06/2021 00:51

For my family, my community, my country and the world.

I'd always want to be part of the solution not the problem.

Silkiecats · 29/06/2021 01:04

Health and also hoped DH would finally be able to see his 88 year old Mum in France but that doesn't look like it will happen. I got very ill after first and now aren't sure if I will have second.

TeddingtonTrashbag · 29/06/2021 04:24

Had the vaxx for the false promise of freedom.
Have had covid anyway.
