Be honest, did you have the vaxx for your health or for the (false) promise of freedom?

I've seen one poster say this and I'm curious what other people will answer

Freedom.

With my age and health, I'd be bloody unlucky to suffer serious consequences from the illness. There are also serious, rare consequences to the vaccine, although some of these just emerged at the point that I had it. The health benefits were not heavily weighted.

It works though. The clincher for me was around Feb when the proportion of hospital admissions began to reflect the introduction of vaccination. I am happy that the odds of spreading are down and the potential severity is down too.

In a world where a virus is so politicised, there's no escape from it and being part of the best tool for managing it is sensible. Plus I have family in other countries, so am subject to their politics too.

It is bloody frustrating being as fully protected as I'll ever be and vast chunks of life still being far from normal, especially in the face of contradictions for elites.

MrsEWeatherwax · 30/06/2021 17:59

Freedom, and to feel happier seeing my DP’s.

LindaEllen · 30/06/2021 18:01

Because I worry about what people who refused it will be stopped from doing further down the line.

MrsLCSofLichfield · 30/06/2021 18:06

For my health and to reduce transmission. I was an early adopter of Covid (March 2020) and it was bloody unpleasant. Haven't been abroad in 20 years (was planning to travel again but pandemic has scuppered that for the foreseeable). I like going to the pub and eating out that's not why I got vaccinated.

Topseyt · 30/06/2021 18:10

Both

bigbaggyeyes · 30/06/2021 18:10

Both health, freedom and for others

Gladiolys · 30/06/2021 18:12

For my health. I really didn’t want to get Covid. And also for the benefit of others - I don’t want to pass it on to someone vulnerable.

Freedom didn’t really come into it for me, because I’m not planning to travel or do anything that would require a vaccine for a while yet anyway.

Horst · 30/06/2021 18:24

For my health so basically for my children to do my part so they can get back to normal and that hopefully if I catch it it’s not so bad.

NoVaccinePassportsAnywhere · 30/06/2021 21:42

I didn't like all the side effects on the yellow card site, so l didn't bother having it.

NoSquirrels · 30/06/2021 21:44

For the protection of others, primarily. That’s why I have (or allow my children to have) any vaccine. To contribute to herd immunity making the chance of serious illness less likely on a population level. Not as an individual freedom/worry thing.

GirlAloud · 30/06/2021 21:47

I’m double jabbed and I took the vaccine to protect myself and protect others. I’m also sufficiently numerate & well educated to understand and make an informed decision about the balance of risks of taking the vaccine vs catching covid.

It wasn’t a difficult decision.

Notaroadrunner · 30/06/2021 21:49

For my health. I don't go out much so I wasn't really missing out.

DoingItMyself · 30/06/2021 21:50

Health. I thought I'd give it a go.

ProfYaffle · 30/06/2021 21:58

Pragmatic reasons for me, primarily so I don't get ill but also to supress the disease overall and reduce the likelihood of further variants.

Choconuttolata · 30/06/2021 22:06

Health. I have long Covid and I been unable to work for six months. I didn't want to catch it again.

LilyPond2 · 30/06/2021 22:07

My own health. Am genuinely surprised at the high numbers of posters for whom that wasn't a key factor.

MuchTooTired · 30/06/2021 22:10

For the well being of others mainly. I didn’t want the vaccine, but I had it as I couldn’t bear the thought of passing covid on if I had it and didn’t know. The teeny tiny slither of freedom I’ve gained is a bonus.

RandomUsernameHere · 30/06/2021 22:15

Both
It will make a massive difference for us in terms of freedom (overseas). I'm travelling next week which I wouldn't be able to do if not double vaccinated without isolating for 10 days on return. Also where we live you don't have to isolate if contact traced when double vaccinated. Non vaccinated have to isolate for 10 days.

floppybit · 30/06/2021 22:25

I did it so I can travel

chillied · 30/06/2021 22:30

I get the flu jab each year. I've had extra vaccinations if going somewhere abroad that needs them. I've made sure my children have all the vaccinations that they are offered.

So what is the difference here? Why is a vaccination against covid such a big question?

elQuintoConyo · 30/06/2021 22:53

I had my first Pfizer for the lolz.

My second dose today cos I had nothing better to do.

Hmm
ApplesinmyPocket · 30/06/2021 23:05

For my health - I'm asthmatic and while I know the idea that Covid is specially dangerous for asthmatics has been debunked, I loathe and fear breathlessness and want NOT to get Covid if at all possible. (I might have had it in March 2020 when I was quite ill with something 'odd' I presumed was 'flu at the time, but will never know now.)

Baluchistan95 · 30/06/2021 23:15

@Love2cycle

For my freedom. I've been pretty much anti vac until covid. I've literally had both jabs to get my freedom back. I've never been worried about catching Covid.
Wow. Scary.
Jiboo2 · 01/07/2021 05:43

Why is it scary? Depending on the posters and Covid is not particularly dangerous.

I also wouldn’t take the vaxx, but if I ever did it would be to get freedoms back such as travel. Not for the health risk as a healthy 30 year old.

Thewiseoneincognito · 01/07/2021 06:09

I’ll be honest, I feel like I am being coerced into having it against my will. Every adult I know except 4 has had it including most of my colleagues, the pressure is very real. To say I am both sceptical and nervous about taking such experimental vaccines is an understatement, the more I research the more confused I become it’s a very binary subject that seems to have all of a sudden become very divisive.

I risk being excluded from the vast majority of my life should it start being made mandatory for certain activities or situations so I face a dilemma and it’s not a very nice situation to find yourself in. I certainly wouldn’t be having it under the false pretence of Freedom because I truly believe we will reach a point where it becomes clear that the vaccines will not be our one and only saviour, by which point we’ll be desperately taking booster shots on a rolling basis without actually knowing what the long term implications are.

So what do I do? 🤷🏻‍♀️
