Town centre was like the school holidays today

Went to my nearest town to go to a couple of shops at around 11:30 today. The amount of kids out with their parents (mainly primary aged) was crazy. It was like the school holidays are here (they aren’t and won’t be for a few weeks).
Mostly kids whos bubbles have burst and are meant to be isolating I guess.
Many many children with parents in and out of high street shops.
Not saying it’s wrong or right or judging parents - more the fact that it seems so many more are not complying with isolations this time, yet these kids are missing their education.
If the government think that by shutting a bubble the kids are all going to be at home they are very wrong.

@NannyAndJohn

And that is why we'll end up back in lockdown.
Why? Tens of millions of us are now vaccinated...
Chillychangchoo · 26/06/2021 12:57

@OnTheBrink1

You’re correct.
I know so many kids who are off school currently “isolating”.

Well they’re not isolating, they’re out and about at trampoline parks, having sleepovers at each other’s homes, going to the cinema etc etc.

Mine haven’t had to “isolate” yet. If they do I’ll treat it like a holiday and organise some fun days out.

Mine haven't had to isolate but I honestly cannot see myself keeping them indoors for the best part of two weeks. The Jan/Feb 2021 lockdown was absolutely hellish...I watched their mental health decline daily.

NannyAndJohn · 26/06/2021 13:04

We need 87% fully vaccinated to ensure R stays below 1, @Comedycook.

We're only half way there.

Chillychangchoo · 26/06/2021 13:05

@Comedycook

Agreed. I should have specified mine have done periods of isolation and we stuck to the rules, but they haven’t isolated for the delta variant (yet). We are totally done though. I really, really don’t care anymore.

We won't. Sorry, I know your desperate for it but we won't. Again, nothing stopping you enjoying your own personal lockdown! Have a whale of a time.

What will you do when we actually get there I wonder? 🤔

So we were initially trying to flatten the curve and protect the NHS, then we wanted to vaccinate the elderly and vulnerable...those things have been done and more. Now you're saying 87% vaccinated. Then what will be the aim? 100% vaccinated? Zero covid?

I honestly can't work out if you have shares in a mask or hand sanitiser company or a company that makes the covid signage.

I'll finally breathe a sigh of relief and have a moment of silence for the 152490 (and counting) lives that have been lost due to government incompetence.
Arrowheart · 26/06/2021 14:01

That was meant for Mrs Happiness @Nannyandjohn

Arrowheart · 26/06/2021 14:02

A moment of silence from you would be great.

mog27 · 26/06/2021 14:04

Are children still expected to isolate after its become pretty clear that footballers don't? This whole thing is a farce, either everyone must isolate regardless of who they are or let's just knock it on the head and let people live their lives.

We took our younger children up the town yesterday as it was an inset day at their secondary - saw quite a few teens walking in on the way back.

We thought it would be quieter than going up at the weekend and could take the time off work.

The kids were spending their own money on things - they've had two birthdays and one chirstmas in lockdown where relatives we still haven't been able to see gave money.

Eldest went shopping to nearest town at start of week - Y111 - mainly to work out buses out for later in week for college inset day so didn't come along.

We've broken no rules or guidace - and my children have all had to do mutiple 14/10 days of isolation in last year and in those times we've kept them at home.

It never occurred to me anyone would assume they were supposed to be in isolation - rates here are currently low and as far as I'm aware there aren't any schools having to isolate at the minute - one positive test means whole year group out here still.

I'm hoping Sepetmeber they look at the isolation and sending entire year groups home and re-evaluate but even now I think most parents during these periods are avoiding crowds and busy public places.

randomlyLostInWales · 26/06/2021 15:33

for college inset day - not inset but intoduction day - look round campus and meet some staff which we had to apply to institute without being able to do.

There are lots of kids both primary and secondary here who have been sent home to ‘isolate’ Some schools do it by a few close contacts and some send multiple year groups home (SE) School cases here are now not low

We had an INSET day. Obviously the OP is the only person that is allowed out and about.

Please don't criticise other people for doing what you are doing.

I took my child out for lunch, we wore masks where appropriate.

No way mine are, not a chance. We are back to living life normally where possible. Following government rules, considering the way they behave, makes you a complete mug as far as I’m concerned.
Charliebradbury · 26/06/2021 17:26

I took my children out last week to the shops and this weekend we went to the zoo Shock.... they are sick of being home and I don't want to keep them stuck here if I can help it. Yesterday was an inset day here as well but it pissed it down all day so I doubt there will have been loads of kids in our town centre. At what point do some posters want kids to be allowed out? Why are adults allowed to go for a drink, to the theatre, football etc but kids shouldn't be allowed to the shops apparently....

randomlyLostInWales · 26/06/2021 18:03

I don't think it's down to the schools here I think it's national policy or very least council policy.

I also don't think we've been hit quite yet by delta variety yet or we're at the start of it - it's more north Wales that has it currently.

We've also got really high vacination rates here - the health board figures say by last week they'd already done 74% of the last group 18-29 year olds with first vaccine and they're mainly doing 40-49 with seconds at minute and they've already got 62% with two doses.

I don't think there will be policy changes till next school year as the Welsh government is worrying about the rates rise in north wales and mointoring if there's an increase in hospital admissions but I'm really hoping by September they re-evaluate school isolations.

HugeAckmansWife · 26/06/2021 18:06

nancyandjohn you seem still to be operating in the headspace where case numbers = ICU or death. The whole point of vaccines is that case numbers won't matter, R rates won't matter, even having it won't matter more than having flu or noro and you can go about or not as you would with those. It would be lovely if we were all immortal and immune to everything but we're not and never will be. So crowded shops etc might lead to a rise in cases yes, but it won't matter and it won't lead to lockdown. We are fast approaching a place where the public, as evidenced by this thread will be voting with their feet. Those who want to continue to be 'safe' and limit their life experiences can do so, those who want to get on with actually living life and helping our children too, can do that.
