Town centre was like the school holidays today

Went to my nearest town to go to a couple of shops at around 11:30 today. The amount of kids out with their parents (mainly primary aged) was crazy. It was like the school holidays are here (they aren’t and won’t be for a few weeks).
Mostly kids whos bubbles have burst and are meant to be isolating I guess.
Many many children with parents in and out of high street shops.
Not saying it’s wrong or right or judging parents - more the fact that it seems so many more are not complying with isolations this time, yet these kids are missing their education.
If the government think that by shutting a bubble the kids are all going to be at home they are very wrong.

There was traditionally an inset at my kids old primary around now so the teachers could go to Glastonbury festival 😁. It’s quite near here. The parents all knew the general view was good for them!

MsTSwift · 26/06/2021 06:47

Some of these posts are really weird. Are children not allowed out in public now?!

MinesAPintOfTea · 26/06/2021 06:48

Our school is on the verge of shutting because of the number of teachers who are (non school) close contacts of positive cases. If that happens there is no reason why I would put DS under isolation rules.

Also exam years have probably finished

Even if it's not a school day, parents should still think twice about whether or not they really need to drag their children to the shops with them.

🤔

I honestly can't decide if you genuingly believe the stuff you spout, or if you do it to wind people up!
Juanbablo · 26/06/2021 07:50

A lot of schools had an inset day last week. For my kids it was Wednesday.

It is absolutely not right to isolate children who don't have have the virus for 10 days at a time, because we all know they could be made to isolate for another 10 days and so on. After 16 months of restrictions, being cut off from friends and family, hobbies and sports, they've given up a lot in this time. Restaurants and pubs are full of fully vaccinated old people pretty much living a normal life now. Ascot, the football and so on. Children and teenagers are paying the price right now and parents are missing out on special memories when Cliff and Joyce next door are planning their holiday to Malta!!!

Apparently not if some posts on here are to be believed 🤷‍♀️

@NannyAndJohn are you wanting to go back to only one person per household allowed out or is your lockdown only for children?
Vanillaradio · 26/06/2021 08:14

Yesterday was pretty generally an Inset Day in our area. A lot of schools missed at least one during the closures so it seems to have been designated as a catch up day. My 7 year old was out and about with me the whole day. I imagine the vast majority of kids you saw would have also been on Inset Days and not flouting any isolation rules.

Baileysforchristmas · 26/06/2021 08:28

Wow how dare children go out. It’s fine for football fans to travel from Scotland to London and party, get drunk, 20 to 30 thousand of them, I doubt they tested but children should never be allowed out, they should be locked up continually isolating, what a scary world we live in. Poor mums being judged constantly just for taking children to the shops. The world has gone mad.

Januaryissodull · 26/06/2021 08:44

As plenty of people have already said, there could be inset days.

Tbh though I'd bet that the vast majority of dc are no longer isolating anymore. It's fucking ridiculous to be expected to continuously keep children inside.

Agree that the world has gone crazy. Blaming mothers and their children when we've all seen the recent sporting events and behaviour of the fans. The fucking health secretary himself has been shagging around breaking his own rules.

The rules can get to duck now. Most people are feeling the same now.

Baileysforchristmas · 26/06/2021 08:46

And these comments are on a mums support group website, absolutely shocking.

TheKeatingFive · 26/06/2021 08:49

Honestly, MN can be among the most anti child places out there.

Counter intuitive, but true.

sashagabadon · 26/06/2021 08:51

To be fair, if my child in a group of 270 wasn’t allowed to school because of one teacher who they probably don’t even know tests positive, I’d be using it as an opportunity to go out places with them too. But as others have said, sounds like an inset day.

Sunnyfreezesushi · 26/06/2021 08:56

People I know are so fed up with the way children have been treated during the pandemic eg school closures/multiple isolations that they are making a point of giving their children as many experiences as they can, whilst they can. I don’t think these people care about Corona anymore. Why should they when thousands are allowed into football stadiums and politicians think the rules don’t apply to them. So I suspect these people would not observe isolating anymore. I think anyone vulnerable should be careful because there is no guarantee the jabs will work 100 pc

Baileysforchristmas · 26/06/2021 09:11

The government have completely messed this up now, the majority of parents will not follow the rules, they have no hope of getting people to stay in doors and save lives if there is another lockdown. I get really annoyed on here when other posters try and guilt trip mums as well but making every excuse for the adults, it’s not on.

NannyAndJohn · 26/06/2021 09:26

In a pre-Covid world, children traipsing round the shops wouldn't bother me at all

But while cases are rising exponentially, is it really that wise to have your children following you around Boots and the Co-Op if they could have stayed at home with their father or an older sibling?

My kids loved shopping when little, particularly Boots! It’s full of interesting things when you are small, followed by an ice cream afterwards. They loved it. Even now my daughter likes a wander in Boots, I do too. Better than sitting at home on the sofa watching Paw Patrol for the fiftieth time.
Baileysforchristmas · 26/06/2021 09:34

@NannyAndJohn what about all the adults in the shop? How do you know they are vaccinated or tested recently? Why are you only concerned about children? Did 30,000 football fans in London bother you?

Baileysforchristmas · 26/06/2021 09:36

Thank god my daughter is nearly 16 and is a young adult, I don’t get judged when we go out together, what a strange world we live in.

I've just got back from asda doing my food shop with my 1 year old. I take her everywhere, on every mediocre errand. Because she has spent the whole of her life in lockdown or under restrictions and I want her to experience 'normal'.
sashagabadon · 26/06/2021 09:39

Quite right too Olive tree Smile
I agree it is good to get kids doing everything even “mundane” things. For a start it can be interesting for them and even if it is not, it’s good for them to build up their boredom threshold so they don’t need constant entertainment when older and can amuse themselves.
