Town centre was like the school holidays today

Went to my nearest town to go to a couple of shops at around 11:30 today. The amount of kids out with their parents (mainly primary aged) was crazy. It was like the school holidays are here (they aren’t and won’t be for a few weeks).
Mostly kids whos bubbles have burst and are meant to be isolating I guess.
Many many children with parents in and out of high street shops.
Not saying it’s wrong or right or judging parents - more the fact that it seems so many more are not complying with isolations this time, yet these kids are missing their education.
If the government think that by shutting a bubble the kids are all going to be at home they are very wrong.

OP posts:

When my DDs bubble burst lots of the kids who were meant to be isolating were seen out and about. One woman had a massive rant about it, clearly not realising her son was one who'd been seen in the co op with his dad. He tested positive the next day and thanks to her rant it was a source of gossip for ages

TheKeatingFive · 26/06/2021 09:45

I’m not keeping my kids at home to placate the anxious Nanny. So that we’re all clear.

Baileysforchristmas · 26/06/2021 09:47

I’m taking my 15 year old to Boots later to buy feminine products, skincare and shampoo, is that frowned apon in certain mumsnetters views? Should I leave her at home and not let her go to the shops? How ridiculous does this all sound?

ConvenientCCTV · 26/06/2021 09:48

Even the medical profession think that isolating hundreds of healthy kids with negative PCR tests for 10 days is totally unnecessary and should stop. The reason the government persist with this policy is purely political (and probably partly because they can't stand up to the unions).

Backhills · 26/06/2021 09:48

This was always my argument for keeping them in school. With appropriate measures (which have worked, there hasn't been that much transmission within schools) they're safer there and not spreading it in the community.

ConvenientCCTV · 26/06/2021 09:49

Bear in mind the government aren't even doing this for themselves. They get to take a daily LFT if they are a close contact of a positive case. Most of these 'isolating' kids are not even close contacts (e.g. at secondary school were yeargroups have hundreds in a bubble)

I never said they have to stay at home. Just that it's not very sensible for them to tag along when you're popping out for some milk and sanitiser.
Baileysforchristmas · 26/06/2021 09:50

@NannyAndJohn please explain why it’s ok for adults?

Honey12346 · 26/06/2021 09:52

It's been like that since November in London, if people knew what kind of large gathering and rule flaunting has been going on in poor neighbourhoods the mumsnet covid police would have a collective stroke

NannyAndJohn · 26/06/2021 09:55
@NannyAndJohn please explain why it’s ok for adults?
Because they're the ones doing the buying.

TheKeatingFive · 26/06/2021 10:02

I’ll decide what is sensible for us thanks

RocheLobe · 26/06/2021 10:05

It’s obviously a wind up to say leave at home with their father or older sibling. Think about it. No one would really think that is a sensible response, it’s clearly to wind people up

newnortherner111 · 26/06/2021 10:05

OP, please do not judge parents, unless you know any who think Mr Johnson has done an adequate or good job of responding to the pandemic.

There would be no issue if India had been on the red list at the same time as Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Baileysforchristmas · 26/06/2021 10:07

@NannyAndJohn oh silly me I thought it was because you were worried about them spreading the virus, as long as you have money you don’t spread it, that’s ok then. Adults are fine just children not to go to the shops, that sound a fair system 🙄

Baileysforchristmas · 26/06/2021 10:20

@NannyAndJohnOr maybe one of these adults might be buying products in your shop but don’t worry they can pay so won’t spread the virus

With this particular poster, I can never decide.

Arrowheart · 26/06/2021 10:23

@VaccineSticker

People are trying hard to spread covid. Well done. 😒 here’s a slow clap. And nice to see you blaming the government when you should be blaming the parents.
Perhaps the parents are fucked off seeing the government cherry pick rules which they have to follow whereas the rest of us have to suck it all up. Fuck. That. It is the government that is to blame for gaslighting us all and playing is for fools.
Arrowheart · 26/06/2021 10:26

@NannyAndJohn

In a pre-Covid world, children traipsing round the shops wouldn't bother me at all

But while cases are rising exponentially, is it really that wise to have your children following you around Boots and the Co-Op if they could have stayed at home with their father or an older sibling?

You really do think the world revolves around you don't you?
Phial · 26/06/2021 10:38

Town was busy where I am yesterday as well. Inset day, secondary schools bubbles shut but not all kids required to isolate, probably a few people who could not leave their child at home and so went out anyway, and probably a few that did not care.
At a guess, they weren't all just popping out for milk and sanitiser either!
I am pretty rule abiding, but kids are being treated appallingly so I was glad to see it.

NannyAndJohn · 26/06/2021 10:40

Of course, @Arrowheart, someone who has spent the last 16 months doing everything they can to protect others from Covid thinks the world revolves around them.

Baileysforchristmas · 26/06/2021 10:43

@NannyAndJohn do you test before you go to the shops? You could be spreading it?

JayDot500 · 26/06/2021 10:44

Some classes are isolating at my son's school. Pictures of said kids in shops etc are on social media.

Baileysforchristmas · 26/06/2021 10:45

@NannyAndJohn your comments here will spur parents to take their children out more not less. The summer holidays are round the corner get used to seeing a lot of children out and about, I hope you can cope.

NannyAndJohn · 26/06/2021 10:46
@NannyAndJohn do you test before you go to the shops? You could be spreading it?
Some countries require you to do just that if you want to visit a non-essential shop.

And I don't think it's a bad idea.

LouLou198 · 26/06/2021 10:49

Inset in our area too. Although bubbles have burst in our school and I know parents are taking their children out to do shopping etc. Think many are just at the end or their tether.
