Refreshing to see a headteacher and doctor on bbc breakfast saying we need to only isolate the dc with covid. Feeling encouraged.

I'm working in school today where 70 children are at home isolating. Madness.

User5827372728 · 23/06/2021 12:19

I agree, but don’t think it’s the right time for this yet

Delatron · 23/06/2021 12:29

Seems the right thing to do now. Let’s hope it’s implemented quickly.

solarlights · 23/06/2021 12:29

@User5827372728 I think they’re thinking next academic year not now.

I’ll be utterly furious if this doesn’t happen from September onwards. They can keep my kid off school but I won’t be isolating them in our house unless they show symptoms. I’ll be sensible & keep them outdoors but we’ll do some outdoor education on some nice walks!

brokenhairband · 23/06/2021 12:59

They need to stop isolations for kids immediately. My DD had less than 5 weeks at school from Sep-March because of repeated isolations. 4 of her best friends had COVID at different times, she seemingly never got it (she was tested a few times). Fingers crossed, since 8 March, she has been back at school but I dread the phone ringing. It's ridiculous!! I also work in a school and know no-one in the staff group who wants kids to have to isolate.
If it continues, parents and kids will simply refuse to test in the first place.

DinosaurDiana · 23/06/2021 13:01

A whole school was shut near me last week. Madness.

ComDummings · 23/06/2021 13:02

🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 Hopeful that at least from September this is the way forward.
My children’s school have been so lucky with isolations, it’s only happened a handful of times even though we have always had high rates in my area. But some children have isolated so many times, it’s just not good for them at all.

User5827372728 · 23/06/2021 13:03

@Bobholll

Everyone I know has been doing this. Avoiding playgrounds/indoors but going to large outdoor spaces. A one off 10 days at home, yup on board with that. Not 30/50 days! No way

Shapesorted · 23/06/2021 13:04

My son is currently missing Y10 mock exams because some Wally did their LFT on Monday night instead of Monday morning thus exposing half a class to his covid during Mondays lessons.

Topseyt · 23/06/2021 13:05

Good. This utter ridiculousness needs to come to an end now.

PerciphonePuma · 23/06/2021 13:08

How ironic! My Year 1 child has literally just had to come home, along with all of her classmates (and the other class in the year I think) and we have to isolate until June 29th!

I'm a single parent, I could cry!

FindingMeno · 23/06/2021 13:10

I have a child self isolating as a close contact.
Still a necessary precaution imo.

Emmacb82 · 23/06/2021 13:11

I really hope this is the case come September. It beggars belief that a football team doesn’t have to isolate but entire year groups of children have to because of one case. They’ve had enough disruption, teachers will be vaccinated by then, there’s no reason to keep sending them home.

Clickbait · 23/06/2021 13:11

There's a BBC article too:
www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-57528279

I would support the isolations stopping. Children have missed out on too much education already.

Delatron · 23/06/2021 13:14

For isolating children I would be definitely taking them outside in to the fresh air. Enough of being shut away. The impact on their physical health abs wellbeing is huge.

One rule for footballers and another for children.
Shocking.

Cookiecrisps · 23/06/2021 13:16

If isolations stop then there should be daily PCR tests to monitor all the close contacts for the 2 days instead but how many people will refuse to test their children?

What about if it’s the teacher or TA in a primary school with covid as there are no masks or social distancing so the whole class would be a close contact in that instance.

Cookiecrisps · 23/06/2021 13:17

*10 days

Pootle40 · 23/06/2021 13:24

@Topseyt

Good. This utter ridiculousness needs to come to an end now.

My DS had four negative tests (three lateral flow and one PCR) during his recent isolation. He still had to do the full 10 days.

solarlights · 23/06/2021 13:25

@Cookiecrisps
What about if it’s the teacher or TA in a primary school with covid

Then only the teacher would need to self isolate.

My child has just had to start isolating because of a case in school. 3rd time we are isolating since schools reopened in March. And I’ve yet again had to apologise to work for not being able to go in.

It’s his last few weeks of primary. I’m so, so sick of this and also fuming at the footballers who can seemingly continue as normal when one in their bubble gets covid, yet my child has to stay at home. Double standards Angry

canary1 · 23/06/2021 13:34

Just take those ‘isolating’ kids out and about- don’t keep them at home. It’s a disgrace these health kids are being deprived of their school environment and education.

3asAbird · 23/06/2021 13:35

My sons already isolating as close contact to case 1 in his bubble.
But now there's 3 cases in his bubble.

The school asking us keep off siblings that attend same school.
Had 4 cases in 1 week.

Cookiecrisps · 23/06/2021 13:37

Personally I think if a child, teacher or TA in the class have covid then the whole class should isolate due to prolonged close contact in primary school. Staff are told to sit next to children to read, cut up food, do first aid etc so lots of close prolonged contact indoors as you’d expect in a typical primary classroom with no masks or social distancing. This is different to the whole year group isolating for 1 case.
