Masks on school grounds?

Is your school still requesting this? Does your school do this?

I dont know anywhere else outside I have to wear a mask...

Yes they are.
Not everyone does it.

Gertie75 · 22/06/2021 18:29

Ours haven't mentioned it for months and I've stopped wearing mine anywhere outdoors, the staggered drop off/collections have also fizzled out without any official announcement from the school
I've noticed a lot of the teachers wear their masks as chin hammocks at collection so I think they're as fed up of them as the parents.

DoucheCanoe · 22/06/2021 18:30

Ours does but I choose to keep my distance (way more than 2m!) instead.

WaltzingToWalsingham · 22/06/2021 18:41

Still requesting masks when collecting children at our school, although quite a few parents don't wear them. We have had quite a few covid cases in the schools round here though.

CornishYarg · 22/06/2021 18:51

Yes, although compliance is dropping. Each class has their own door that they come out of and pick up times are staggered, so we have plenty of room to spread out. So the masks seem pretty pointless tbh

VariantL1130 · 22/06/2021 18:54

Yes DC school does. Massive grounds and staggered starts. Utterly pointless.

Thisnamewasnttaken123 · 22/06/2021 18:58

Yes we still have to do it

GiantToadstool · 22/06/2021 19:02

Not just us then.... was there some recommendation or soemthing theyre following? Is it still valid?

As its a school rule I assume we have ti follow it?

OP posts:
DGFB · 22/06/2021 19:04

Ours have stopped asking. But parents were rebelling before then. Just don’t do it, it’s pointless

DGFB · 22/06/2021 19:05

There is nothing from either DfE or the public health people to say this needs to be done

Tangledtresses · 22/06/2021 19:05

Ours is 🤨 in a huge playground.... the tiny alley way to get the school gate is tiny 😂. I've given up tbf

HeyManIJustWantSomeMuesli · 22/06/2021 19:10

Still supposed to do it but I am not, nor are about half the other parents, maybe more. I don't go anywhere near anyone anyway. I feel we have to start using a bit of common sense. Also, not entirely relevant as if feel the same if I weren't but I should be exempt anyway but can manage for a short while, so I have been and still will on shops etc for now but not outside, metres from anyone.

Mintjulia · 22/06/2021 19:11

Yes. Obligatory on the school bus, in the buildings, everywhere except classrooms, dining room and sports pitches..

Mintjulia · 22/06/2021 19:14

That's for the dcs. Parents aren't allowed on school grounds yet.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 22/06/2021 19:26

I don't wear one. Not many parents still are.

Unanananana · 22/06/2021 19:30

No masks at DDs secondary - zero cases. No masks at DS primary as drop off/pick up is outside and socially distanced as well as staggered. Also zero cases.

Those who are visibly exempt (wearing lanyards) don't seem bothered about getting too close to anyone and most people don't wear them anywhere around here anyway. Our rate is 3 cases per 100,000 and our vaccination uptake is in around 98% I believe?

choosername1234 · 22/06/2021 19:41

We are asked (repeatedly) to wear masks while dropping kids off at their primary school. Not allowed on school premises.
But the school are fine that the kids have to walk in the road to get to their drop off gate as the pavement is taken up by queues of parents. Dodging cars is safer than standing in the playgroundHmm

GiantToadstool · 22/06/2021 19:45

Outside, staggered and possible to distance here. But think mask wearers are now judging those who are stopping. I wondered if other people stopping were told they "could" by school or if its gradually dwindling.

No masks at all at secondary.

BowiesJumper · 22/06/2021 19:46

Yes. Along with one way systems and staggered drop off/pick ups. Regularly reminded in bulletins etc. It comes from the LA I believe. Almost 100% compliance here. Doesn’t bother me at all.

GiantToadstool · 22/06/2021 19:48

Ah is it an LA thing? It does seem lots of schools are.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 22/06/2021 20:05

Yes, the children haven’t been vaccinated and not all parents or staff have had both doses so seems a sensible easy precaution to take.

GiantToadstool · 22/06/2021 20:07

Is there anywhere else you're taking rhe "sensible precaution" of wearing a mask when outdoors and 2m away from anyone?. I just haven't really seen that around here or recommended anywhere. It's literally only school. If it was a "sensible precaution" it would be done elsewhere surely?

OP posts:
TheDukeissoHot1 · 22/06/2021 20:10

Yes, we have to collect from the playground. School are still insisting on masks being worn & we also have one way system/staggered start & finish. I could understand it inside but we are outdoors and 2m apart. So ready for this rule to be dropped but can’t see it happening before end of term

JurassicShay · 22/06/2021 20:11

Our school requests we do but I stopped a few weeks ago and it seems a few others have too.
I don't have to wear a mask anywhere else outside so I'm not at the school.

We're getting emails every few days reminding us that we're meant to be though.

GiantToadstool · 22/06/2021 20:13

I really had wondered if it was just ourschool as it seems so illogical (I'm masking if I go indoors anywhere etc.)

But I guess it feels slightly less odd (or collectively more!?) If everyone is doing jt!
