Is your school still requesting this? Does your school do this?

I dont know anywhere else outside I have to wear a mask...

I will stick my head above the parapet. The school i work at asks for this. I dont see the point myself, however it is to reassure nervous staff as a lot of people dont stand that far from the teachers when handing over the children. There is less nervousness since many have had the vaccine but there are still a few worried. Theres not much we can do to reassure staff as inside the school its no mask etc so the slt have just left it running.

Iggi999 · 22/06/2021 20:15

We do. No way are we 2m apart

CoffeeWithCheese · 22/06/2021 20:17

We're banned from the school grounds entirely. Can't even go to hand forms into the office or anything. They tried to mandate masks on the pavement outside school where all the parents now mob together - but couldn't make that one stick.

GiantToadstool · 22/06/2021 20:19

Coffee by grounds here I mean the grounds outside. We don't go inside. We wait in the car park area/ trees/grassy bit before the bell goes then they go in.

Grounds belonging to the school. Gosh I used to be better at explaining things.

Stills wearing one here. I’m in the minority now though and apparently I’m being ‘hysterical’ by doing so. Despite the huge signage asking us to.

bellamountain · 22/06/2021 20:52

Our Head insisted parents continue to wear them in a recent email. About half of all parents had stopped (myself included) but it's gone back to near on 100% compliance since the guilt trip email telling us we must protect vulnerable members of the school community. By that notion, we may as well wear masks on pick up / drop off for ever more because people will always be vulnerable.

It just seems so silly when families can sit together in packed restaurants now but picking up our children from school without a mask will mean we're likely to kill someone. The same goes for sports day, we might kill someone then too. Let's not talk about football fans and tennis fans and all sorts of people who are not murderers of course.

Spekoppar · 22/06/2021 21:34

Ours emailed out to stop the requirement to wear masks from this week. We’re still distanced at drop off with staggered start times though.

superduster · 22/06/2021 22:00

Yes, but we have a small school site so it isn't possible to distance at all. We've been told it will continue for the whole academic year.

blueskyemily · 22/06/2021 22:06

Yes still the rule at ours. Everyone still seems to be wearing them. Sounds like we are unusually compliant!

Taswama · 22/06/2021 22:10

Apparently the LA say its still necessary. I don't think there's a law enforcing masks outside anywhere (in England) so I consider it to be a request not mandatory.

BoomChicka · 22/06/2021 22:15

Yes, and no I don't.

tootiredtospeak · 22/06/2021 22:17

Ours is but I can understand it really as parents arent 2 metres apart they are much closer speaking to each other. I am still wearing mine would happily stop though.

BogRollBOGOF · 22/06/2021 22:32

Our school's doing the emotional blackmail about vulnerable families. Parents in their 30s are being double vaccinated now. The majority are done. If the 95yo Queen is fine to mingle without masks in an outdoor space, I'm not sure how it's so much more hazardous for people half her age spread across a large playground. And the clusters of people standing together have children in classes together, doing activities together, going to eachother's houses, and some even going on holiday together few weeks back. It's a fucking farce.

Shame the school don't care so much about hearing impairment/ processing difficulties and social and communication disorders.

It's absolute meaningless bullshit that exists only to bulk up a risk assessment.

I was struggling with the stupid things anyway and was still trying visors at the point that thr rule came in so I haven't attempted the futility of trying to wear a visor in an outdoor space. I spend the morning drop off dealing with a child with ASD with face contact issues and the last thing he needs when dealing with pre-school anxiety (aggravated by time out with lockdowns) is me impeding communication by obliterating 2/3s of my face.

I wish other people would take the stupid, useless things off so I could hold a proper conversation with lip reading and not having the lag time of trying to decipher muffled mumblings and failing to keep up.

You're wearing it for a few minutes, tops. This could, potentially, protect someone with a weaker immune system than you in your own community. It's not a difficult act for most. But go ahead with your vitriol.

SausageFrog · 23/06/2021 05:52

I’m an unvaccinated teacher still waiting for my turn. Parents never remember or care to stand 2 metres away when they talk to me about their child so I’m glad they’re wearing masks.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 23/06/2021 05:59

Our school request it.

We have sports day on Friday, one parent per child one year group a day. Masks must be worn unless a visible exemption is seen or you will not be allowed entry.

I wear my mask when I have to but lately I am struggling. I'm OK for the few minutes picking ds up at the end of the day but for a prolonged period I struggle.

I have asthma that's triggered by allergies. Usually it's managed by a specific nasal antihistamine only available on prescription.

My gp won't prescribe it anymore due to cost so I was given an alternative. It doesn't work. So I'm on my 2nd alternative. That's not working either. I'm breathless easily and feel almost constantly wheezy.

I'm dreading it. My gp suggested printing off an exemption from the gov.uk website but I'm scared it won't be believed as I've worn one for pick up.

whattodo2019 · 23/06/2021 06:02

Yes, all our parents are asked to wear masks at drop off and pick up when they are outside and to socially distance.
As a school we have taken lots of sensible measures to protect our community and We have had no cases at our school.

Erictheavocado · 23/06/2021 06:23

Yes. We ask parents to wear them on school premises and staff have to wear them in communal areas including if we need to pop into the next door room. We have to wear them in the staffroom unless eating. We are a primary school, not in a surge area and we still have pupils testing positive fairly regularly, leading to bubble closures.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 23/06/2021 06:28

Yes, but it's never been followed.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 23/06/2021 06:42

@GiantToadstool

Grounds belonging to the school. Gosh I used to be better at explaining things.
DS's school asks us to wear one on the pavement, so not grounds belonging to the school. Hmm
MrsUnderkracker · 23/06/2021 06:46

Quite astonishing at the ignorance on this thread.

Wow.

I find the disposable ones are better for longer periods of time .

Hope you get on ok.

Yafilthyanimal · 23/06/2021 06:47

Or could you get a visor?

Angel2702 · 23/06/2021 06:49

Ours have never asked us to wear masks but we haven’t been allowed on school grounds, not even the playground.
