My son tested positive on Sunday & today I started to feel congested & throat feels scratchy so did lateral flow & it's come back positive! I'm awaiting for a appointment to become available for a PCR. I'm really scared!! I'm overweight....I suffer with health anxiety so as you can imagine I'm absolutely petrified!!
@Roch91 I’m 40, unvaccinated, and very scared of Covid and the vaccine, have health anxiety - so you are not alone in this.

Now is not the time to think about the vaccine like some posts here suggests- do please ignore unhelpful posts- they won’t help your mental health.

If I tested positive I will be very scared as well because every news item around us has been repeating to us that it’s vaccine or death- so naturally we are primed to think this way.

Take it an hour at a time/a minute at a time if it helps- but focus on making yourself comfortable and monitoring your symptoms- if looking at the oxi meter increase your anxiety ask someone else in the family to keep a tab, so you don’t obsess over numbers

Eat if you can but keep yourself well hydrated

If you feel you need help please ring 111/999- the nhs is a health provider, as much as we are trying to save the nhs the nhs has a duty to save the citizens, this is not the time to worry if you are wasting time.

Put yourself first for the next few days and focus on getting better-

If it helps and only if it helps talk to people here in mumsnet-

I will keep my fingers crossed for you…
Now is exactly the time to get the vaccine actually.

oakleaffy · 27/06/2021 10:24

@Roch91

Thanks for replying...no I've not had my vaccination because I'm scared (not because of the conspiracy) I tent not to take ANYTHING! One time I was in hospital with excruciating pain screaming & they wanted to give me morphine & I said no!! Sounds stupid I know but I don't take anything as I'm scared of side effects etc think it's all part of my health anxiety!
Should have gone with the Morphine...They don't offer it unless it is needed.

An elderly neighbour was in shock, pale and quiet on the floor with a broken Femur.

She was given morphine, and a few minutes later colour returned to her face, her eyes sparkled and she began talking.

It was miraculous.

Hopefully your Covid won't be bad, but I get the terror..Last March I had a sore throat and cough... and was sure it was Covid.

It probably wasn't, but the fear was real. I was terrified.

I went for vaccines this time~ the AZ ones too.
**@CoralBells* it’s me that’s sneering, not @covidcloser*.

If what you say is true and backed by science can you explain to me why the WHO, the NHS, the Dept of Health etc etc aren’t recommending chicken soup and why is it not been used as a tool against covid?

If there was any real evidence that it helped then scientists would be talking about it.
So, when you’re ill are you telling me you will only ever take remedies that have been absolutely proven by science to make you feel better?

Or would you choose to partake in behaviours that may make you feel better?
There is probably no evidence that a hot bath would help, but you may personally find it soothing and comforting.
I doubt watch in Netflix in bed has been extensively studies in the realms of medicine. But it sure as hell made me feel better.

Stop being a pedant.
@Thegreymethod people who have tested positive can finish their isolation, it's the people within the household who have yet to get it that have to restart in case they get infected by the new positive case

Wishing you well OP. Stay well hydrated as per PP comments
Loads of conflicting advise about. When DP and I had it in march, our ds tested positive towards end of isolation. T&T told us our other 2 children could end their isolation after their 10 days was up as long as they didn't get symptoms, and it was just our positive ds who needed to do another 10 days! I clarified this twice with T&T and with the school.

Wherediditgo · 27/06/2021 10:35

Just to add pacify the PP did not say that chicken soup or broth would CURE Covid.

And you will find that on the NHS website, they will recommend you to take paracetamol if you have flu or a cold… yes? Why is that? Not because paracetamol CURES cold/flu but because it eases symptoms and makes you feel more comfortable while you recover.

Using your logic, nobody would take anything if they had Covid because nothing actually cures it.
Same with the common cold, and flu and any other number of viral infections.

OliveTree75 · 27/06/2021 10:35

@Nofriend

According to this info graphic you husband shouldn’t have to start his isolation again!
This is what I was told to follow when we had it.
PacifyLulu · 27/06/2021 10:51

@Wherediditgo the pp said the OP would “heal faster” by taking chicken soup which is what I objected to. There is no evidence at all that chicken soup/ broth will aid in covid recovery or outcomes. If @faithfulbird20 had said “oh op, watch some Netflix and eat some broth - it won’t actually help but you might feel comforted” then fine but let’s not present some pseudo science as actual medicinal treatment.

Wherediditgo · 27/06/2021 10:56

No, she said this:

Make sure you have a lot of chicken soup/broth and liquids and all of you rest. Your body will heal faster

I just do not see anything contentious about the above paragraph.
I would bet that increase fluid intake and resting will make you heal faster. In the same way that drinking nothing and trying to carry on daily activities will make you feel worse.
Even if you ignore the fact that the pp suggested three things to ‘help her heal faster’ and only take the chicken soup recommendation, doing something to try to keep your energy levels up or even just to make you feel happier and more comfortable will also aid in recovery.

There was just no need to pick it apart like you have.

PacifyLulu · 27/06/2021 11:32

Oh ffs @Wherediditgo and you called me a pendant?
You didn’t see it as contentious, I did. Should we tell people to keep breathing too as they will help them “heal faster”.

I didn’t. I called you a pedant Wink

(which is one of the most ironic sentences I have ever typed)

CrappyBirthday2Me · 27/06/2021 12:06

The conversation about chicken soup on this thread is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read. Honestly so embarrassing that someone would pick on a kindly and time-honoured suggestion of broth making someone with a generally very mild viral illness feel better because it's 'not a WHO-approved cure'. Hilarious. It's like the options in some people's minds are: get a vaccine, or get Covid and just lie down and accept your inevitable death.

OP, it's enormously likely that this will be nothing more than a few days of feeling a bit 'off' for you. Remember that even though you have only just tested positive, you've probably had it for a few days (LFTs aren't good at picking up this illness) so are well on your way to recovery.

chasingmytail4 · 27/06/2021 12:13

There’s seems to be a lot of confusion about isolation. When the second person in our house tested positive last week, this was the text they received.

Just tested positive

So strange how people are given different information! I might try & contact them again.

Completely agree about the chicken soup comments.

Yes thank you, just feel a bit dizzy/disoriented not sure if that's the covid or anxiety. Thanks for asking.

Kittykat93 · 27/06/2021 12:35

So you're still not going to get the vaccine?? Honestly the stupidity of some people. It's people like you refusing the vaccine then catching covid and spreading it that are keeping cases going. And I dont care if that sounds harsh

How many times do people have to be told this.

Not getting the vaccine does not = stupid.
Get back in yer box.

Wherediditgo · 27/06/2021 12:46

Also hope you’re feeling better today OP.

This thread has made me crave chicken soup so I know what I will be having for lunch Grin

Namechanged4thi5 · 27/06/2021 13:31

@Roch91 possibly anxiety- I feel dizzy when I have my episodes too. Glad you are feeling better. Keep positive 😊
It’s your body your choice- ignore the vaccine sales task force.

Branleuse · 27/06/2021 13:37

I hope you dont get too ill with it OP. I guess you must have decided the risk of getting covid was less serious than the risk of the vaccine despite the medical evidence

PacifyLulu · 27/06/2021 13:42

@Wherediditgo fortunately for @kittykat93 I don’t think your definition of “stupid” is too accurate so I think she can rest easy.
You’re starting to sound like OP’s sock puppet.

MrsLCSofLichfield · 27/06/2021 13:51

@Branleuse - I remember you from the early Covid support threads on here (I had a different username back then). It was useful to be able to talk to people who were experiencing an unpleasant and sometimes scary illness at a time when most people didn't even know anyone who'd had it.

Now that we have vaccinations to suppress the seriousness of the illness and ultimately reduce its prevalence, I think it's dumb not to take it. That's based on my experience of Covid and my not appreciating people keeping it in circulation when they could do something to reduce it.

Our choices affect other people too, but some people just don't want to hear it Hmm
