I’m not quite sure who you’re accusing of conspiracy - the MIT study scientists or me. If the latter perhaps you would read my posts on this thread, if the former they were simply studying Covid viral RNA.[/quote]
repeating information without putting it into context is scaremongering though

this paper has been used by anti-vaxxers to "prove" the mRNA vaccines can alter DNA, when the study authors have explained this is not the case

it's disingenuous to not give this context, IMO

TatianaBis · 22/06/2021 16:42

There seems to be some confusion here: I posted the study in response to the RNA/DNA issue, not wrt the vaccination.

Quoting scientific data is not ‘scaremongering’. The context of the study is perfectly clear. The authors have not speculated one way or another wrt vaccine RNA - they simply emphasised the actual context of their work.

I think this thread has got me to the point, like with Brexit, where I will no longer warn people of things that could be coming.
People have heard. If they wish to take no notice, that is entirely up to them.

My personal responsibility on MN is done.

You do that then.

What do you think is coming @lightand? I am not being goady or asking so I can argue the toss with you about it. I'd just like to know so I can see if it comes true or not further down the line.

Now I'm confused.

I'm not accusing anyone of conspiracy - I don't think there is any great conspiracy around Covid :) - just fuckwit humans being fuckwits (greedy, self-serving politicians with agendas, advisors covering up mistakes etc) as well as some really clever and dedicated ones like the scientists that came up with the vaccines that will get us out of this whole mess.

I was flippantly LOLing at the Bible being held up as shining beacon of truth and light when it was actually written to frighten and control the masses - like most of the supposed conspiracy theories themselves.

There's an awful lot of inspired Christians about as well as fearful ones.

In that case posts like: Science eh? Never let it get in the way of a good conspiracy theory! may be misleading.

It depends how you define conspiracy really - 'self-serving politicians with agendas' might meet some definitions as might 'advisors covering up mistakes'.

The only thing I find frightening about the Bible is trying to pronounce the old testament names.

Good job knowing why people did things two thousand years ago.

@RealhousewifeofStoke

But what about flu? It disappeared.

Wink

It hasn't, it's self identifying now as covid, as is its right.

Are you American? We call it sarcasm here in the UK.
KisstheTeapot14 · 22/06/2021 18:21

'Chalk it up to science and health experts, mostly epidemiologists, that most of us are still on the net talking about conspiracy posts instead of being dead.'

Well said @Alondra

The sarcasm was obvious to this Yank, so I don't think nationality is a factor.

Ha! I actually know a few fabulously sarcastic and sardonic Americans. They crack me up Smile

@knittingaddict

I think this is why I only dip a cautious toe in the world of conspiracy theory - it is a rabbit hole and like Alice we could be in there for a while trying the different cakes out that say 'eat me'.

I mean there are some great and truly puzzling ones - like the Dyatlov Pass one. I only know about this via MN.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/extra/SoLiOdJyCK/mystery_of_dyatlov_pass

Like I say, they do consume your time and interest.

There are things of real concern - climate change, pollution, over consumption, political corruption and so on. Most people don't think these are conspiracy any more, and I think time and energy spent on thinking of clever ways out = probably more useful than wondering what Bill Gates is 'up to' or whatever.

I've always been an activist, so am all too aware of actual real life conspiracies that turned out to be true - like the undercover cop who had children with the women he was spying on.

Funny old world, innit?

I suppose what I am saying is just 'pinch of salt'.

And as 11 year old DS told his gran on Sunday (hushed whisper)

'You can't trust what people write on the internet grandma'

@Sonarl

Wrong quote sorry, in reply to this one:

Sonarl

I can't be a fighter pilot because I don't have perfect eyesight.

I can't be an athlete because I don't have the right body.

I can't even be cabin crew because I'm too short.

if you can't have a vaccine to protect the vulnerable people you care for then boo hoo you can't do that job, do one of the millions of others.

Not a good example, the first 3 are all intrinsic and naturally occurring.

You’ve spent a long time there typing out examples but none are actually relevant or comparable. Do you honestly not get that this affects human rights in a way none of your examples do? Hippocratic oath ‘first do no harm’, or is it ok to use coercion to force treatment on someone for the greater good, despite the fact that they may suffer adverse effects which include a risk of dying? It is an enormous shift in the basis of medical care in this country which so far allows free choice. I personally don’t want to give up the principle of free choice and would rather live with the downsides of that. The covid vaccine doesn’t even have a full product licence. Some may disagree, fine, but I think you should at least appreciate what you are supporting and what the ramifications are. On an operational level, we don’t have enough care home staff anyway (tough job for poor pay and conditions) so losing more is not a good thing for their service users. Residents and their friends and families are not currently covered by the proposed legislation. So either it will need to be extended more widely or it isn’t going to cure the situation. It also very possible to still get covid whilst fully vaccinated.
MissConductUS · 22/06/2021 18:37

It hasn't, it's self identifying now as covid, as is its right.

Well played. Grin

TatianaBis · 22/06/2021 18:47

@Sonarl - FWIW the sarcasm was obvious, what was less clear was what point you were trying to make.

Mrbob · 22/06/2021 23:12

@Wannabangbang

I'm not usually a conspiracy theorist but i find it odd a few kids doing sports day with parents watching outside is disallowed but footballers and their fans can gather in large numbers and G7 summit can also gather in a large number. Very strange so covid not dangerous to the rich then? Hmm
That’s not a conspiracy theory. That is your government being cunts
3peassuit · 22/06/2021 23:16

I fancied a hob tonight. I usually want a digestive. I had my second recently. Coincidence? I think not.

I think you omitted the 'nob' there 3?! Funnily enough my DH had AZ recently and he's been hoovering up the hob nobs. I think you're on to something there...

Definition of conspiracy theory

a belief that some covert but influential organization is responsible for an unexplained event

I dont know about covert exactly, but certainly covert behaviours.
So so many of them have happened.
And cetain organisations are not even being covert anymore.

UK gov seem to want state control.
As do some other countries and their leaders, to the point of them trying to get towards one world government.
Vaccination cards, endless data world wide gathering, [which could well lead to chinese style ways of doing things, including social credit scoring, so you need to be a "good" government citizen to even get credit], trying to get cash withdrawn to lead to possible implementation of cashless world so our lives are even more traceable.
read up on world economic forum, IMF, even the Fed, UN, what politicans say[even more important watch what they do].

These things have not exactly been hidden!
If you want to see of course, which most people back away from.

Legoninjago1 · 23/06/2021 12:01

Yeah. I'm at the point now that I really don't care. They can trace me til the cows come home as long as my kids can have a full and normal life. I'll save them the trouble and expense of making such teeny tiny microchips that fit through the end of a needle and happily carry one around in my phone which is always with me. I just apologise in advance to whoever gets the mind numblingly boring job of monitoring mine.

lightand · 23/06/2021 12:39

@Legoninjago1
Who do you vote for?
Have you ever had mental health problems?
Have you ever, and I mean ever, complained about anything to do with the government before?[ Including education, as I see you have kids.]
Do you support green/black lives matter/all environment concerns/ etc etc issues/whatever a government may be pushing that month/year?
Have you always paid taxes and bills on time?
Do you think governement "records" are always correct about someone, all of the time?
Are you 100% a "good" little citizen?

I dont think it would be that hard for me to trawl through your posts on MN to find something you have written that a government may not approve of, which would lower your social credit score, if things happen, that have already happened elsewhere.
Which could mean if you have a mortgage for example, you could be put on a higher mortgage rate in the future.

And all that is but a mere snapshot, of things that could happen in the future.

Do you want to send me your phone, and I will go through it?
No? Not now? I thought not.
Or maybe you do, in which case I will happily have a look through.
