We need to learn to live with covid like we do with all other viruses, illnesses and diseases. The elderly and high risk are vaccinated… that was the goal, remember?! Like Hancock said, we will cry freedom when the over 70s are vaccinated!

There is no reason for mass testing when the young and healthy get covid mildly. My child is in tears yet again because she isn’t allowed to go to school for 10 days. A few students in her year group tested positive and all students are forced to be locked in their homes… again.

Are the sick?! No. Half have no symptoms. The others have a slight fever and feel a little tired.

This isn’t fair. This isn’t healthy. This isn’t sane. This is harmful and destructive to children. An entire generation has been betrayed. For what exactly? Over a virus which does not affect them. Over fear. Over people being immensely risk-averse. Over loss of control and people can’t take it.

It is time we live our lives and get back to normal before it’s too late. If our children hold us accountable and never forgive us, I will completely understand. We have not stood-up for them. Instead, we cowered in fear not giving a hoot about the collateral damage all these restrictions have caused. Shame on us.

Exactly and why are mums who are struggling with this given such a hard time on here, when they should be getting support, this is supposed to be a help group for parents!

Because there are a few vocal groups who don’t want parents to say children should be a priority.

@AliceLivesHere

'Wait until this happens' - it happens and then it is 'wait until that happens' - it happens and then it is 'wait until that happens' - it happens - rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat. Over and over with moving goalposts. Save the NHS/Get the hospital cases down/Vaccinate the elderly and CEV, vaccinate the over 65/vaccinate the over 50's/see what the latest rebranding of covid might or might not do. Test event after test event.

A few more weeks. The a few more weeks. Then a few more weeks.

That is all we hear. NO not anymore. Open up. Let us get back to normal life with no restrictions and remember that the average age of death from this virus is 82 - past the age of normal life expectancy. Yep we all know some love it and don't want to mix with people, want to sit at home in their tiny group (many of these boards have expressed they love the simple life great live it then) - that's fine you do that if it pleases you but stop restricting the sociable of us, stop forcing your worries and anxieties on the rest of us. Keep sending kids home to isolate/keep them away from activities that support both physical and mental health - store up problems for the future.

Time to stop with this crap now.

exactly this
Baileysforchristmas · 21/06/2021 10:42

It makes you think there is an agenda going on 😒

rookiemere · 21/06/2021 10:50

@Backofbeyond50 not remotely back to normal here. Jungle drums are that there is a positive case in DSs year. Not got the dreaded email but will just take some other bright spark to get their DC tested and bang goes our much rescheduled multi family holiday in the Lake District.

Great to be able to do things but with rising cases the risk of being identified for self isolation despite being double vaccinated somewhat takes the fun out of things.

Blessex · 21/06/2021 10:53

And that’s exactly why I threw the PCR tests in the bin.

Blessex · 21/06/2021 10:54

That is the 4 tests in addition to the 5 negative tests I have taken this week. Confused

rookiemere · 21/06/2021 10:57

@Blessex keep going I'm sure you'll get a positive at some point Wink.

Don't get them tested and enjoy your holiday

rookiemere · 21/06/2021 11:01

@Honey12346 I won't be getting DS tested but if he is identified as a close contact for self isolation then we're still caught.

2389Champ · 21/06/2021 11:04

Death figures are holding steady, and sad as any death is (I lost both my mother and MIL during the first lockdown) many of those will have died of an underlying condition but tested positive. Hospitalisation might also appear to be rising, but what the media don’t report is just as many are being discharged following successful treatment and effectively balancing the intake.

The Delta strain might be more transmissible but it’s not more dangerous. We mustn’t lose sight of that. If you or a member of your family is vulnerable, of course you need to shield, but the rest of the world needs to get on with it now. People taking immunosuppressant drugs have always done this and not expected everyone else to lockdown because of their issues.

If we’re all sensible, follow basic hygiene and avoid unnecessary close contact in crowded places, we will be fine. I’m not so convinced that a piece of cloth across your face is of much benefit - especially bearing in mind that medical staff change theirs regularly and when I see some of the grubby efforts that some wear, I do wonder if they contribute to infection as much as suppress it?

No, but it does mean that going "NO ONE HAS EVER SUFFERED LIKE THESE CHILDREN NOW ARE SUFFERING" is ridiculous.

If my kids come up to me (and they have at times) and say "Everything feels a bit sucky, all this sucks, I hate covid, I want a hug" that's absolutely fine and they get their hug and a listening ear. Because yes, it does suck.

If however they told me that their generation was the only generation to ever have suffered like this for the sake of older generations they would get snorted at and a history lesson.

The one is absolutely fine. The other is staunchly untrue and deserves challenging.
I don’t think people mean in comparison to the war times. We know that was horrific. I assume they mean in the last 80 years. The people living here and now, even in their 80’s, won’t have fought in the war.

Still goes back to my point that it’s like saying, people in the UK shouldn’t complain about anything, because I’m comparison to third world countries, we are beyond privileged.

That wouldn’t be acceptable to say though would it? To someone with depression…..

shewalkslikerihanna · 21/06/2021 11:50

@Blessex

Meanwhile I am sitting in an airport flying back from seeing my DH and I can tell you. Life outside is cracking on! The Netherlands are lifting ALL restrictions this week. No more masks. No more distancing. People are flying. The Dutch government are even paying for all holiday pcr tests for July and august for families. And we are still pulling our kids out of school with no clue when restrictions will end now the goalposts have been moved once.
I think I’d have stayed there.
Turquoisesea · 21/06/2021 11:51

I’ve just seen on the Daily Fail that a Scottish footballer who played in the recent England v Scotland match has just tested positive. I bet all his team mates don’t have to now isolate for 10 days! If however you are a school aged child and been on the same bus or in the classroom with someone who sits no where near you but tests positive, you still have to isolate though, even with a negative test. It’s just double standards, that’s why people are getting fed up with it all.

Baileysforchristmas · 21/06/2021 11:54

Yep and Scotland banning people from Manchester, funny Nicola Sturgeon waited until after the match 🙄

shewalkslikerihanna · 21/06/2021 11:58
@Baileysforchristmas I think the G7 and now the 2500 non-quarantining UEFA officials is the straw that breaks the camels back. Why the hell should I now quarantine coming back from the Netherlands where the cases are low? I have had 5 PCR negative tests in the last week. And I am double vaccinated over 2 weeks ago. All respect has now gone.
I wonder how the 3000 security personnel living on the cruise ship for the G7 have fared
Wonder if there’ll be any updates on that.
Was their food better than those in the quarantine hotels that people have to pay an arm and a leg for any better I wonder.
Does anyone else wonder about that?

CantGetNoSleep73 · 21/06/2021 12:05

@Turquoisesea exactly my point - it's ridiculous. My son sits there day after day in a bloody mask and yet he isolating again because of a positive lateral flow test.

Why should it be any different?

I'm in greater Manchester and we have been shafted throughout this. Sturgeon is taking the proverbial considering how her rates have been yet all those football players descended on London 🤬

LucilleTheVampireBat · 21/06/2021 12:07

Pity covid doesn't affect people like yourself hmm Wouldn't be such a tragedy to lose people with attitudes like yourself tbh

This sums it up beautifully. Look how caring we lockdown fans are, we just want to save liiiives and stay safe. Unless you disagree with us. Then we will wish you dead. I'd imagine that goes against talk guidelines doesn't it?

Baileysforchristmas · 21/06/2021 12:12

@CantGetNoSleep73 don’t do the LFT, none of the children are doing it at my daughter’s school, guess what, no cases, no sickness, the school hasn’t had a case for about 4 weeks now, the children have stopped wearing masks.

NotSoLongGoodbye · 21/06/2021 12:13

Teachers and all front-line staff should've been vaccinated as a priority (rather than all NHS staff including those WFH) but given that horse has bolted, people need to stop with the testing, especially the lateral flow tests. More testing = more covid cases being found = more isolation / schools closing. Most covid cases are mild, we aren't seeing the huge death rates of last year, we have some people in hospital but treatments are a lot better. Time to stop the panic

CantGetNoSleep73 · 21/06/2021 12:17

@Baileysforchristmas we aren't doing them anymore - it seems a lot are though. I feel like screaming, just stop testing them then 😞

tappitytaptap · 21/06/2021 12:21

People are perpetuating this themselves by doing lateral flow tests. Just bloody stop!

Blessex · 21/06/2021 12:23

Hmmm yes I wonder if the Scottish team mates of the footballer who has just tested positive now need to isolate for 10 days. No? Ah what a surprise. Keep your kids home from school though mums !

HesterShaw1 · 21/06/2021 12:25

This to a T.

Just bloody stop.
