We need to learn to live with covid like we do with all other viruses, illnesses and diseases. The elderly and high risk are vaccinated… that was the goal, remember?! Like Hancock said, we will cry freedom when the over 70s are vaccinated!

There is no reason for mass testing when the young and healthy get covid mildly. My child is in tears yet again because she isn’t allowed to go to school for 10 days. A few students in her year group tested positive and all students are forced to be locked in their homes… again.

Are the sick?! No. Half have no symptoms. The others have a slight fever and feel a little tired.

This isn’t fair. This isn’t healthy. This isn’t sane. This is harmful and destructive to children. An entire generation has been betrayed. For what exactly? Over a virus which does not affect them. Over fear. Over people being immensely risk-averse. Over loss of control and people can’t take it.

It is time we live our lives and get back to normal before it’s too late. If our children hold us accountable and never forgive us, I will completely understand. We have not stood-up for them. Instead, we cowered in fear not giving a hoot about the collateral damage all these restrictions have caused. Shame on us.

@JeanClaudeVanDammit

The statistics should be 1.4 million to be hospitalised.

It’s not that either. You haven’t accounted for the proportion of the population who have already had covid conferring some immunity. Or the fact that not everyone will catch Covid. Or the fact that some people have changed their own behaviour voluntarily, over and above the actual guidance and will probably continue to do so. Removing restrictions doesn’t mean everyone is going to start going clubbing and coughing in people’s faces on day 1. And you haven’t taken into account that the average hospitalisation rate included those groups who are already double vaccinated, and they are already double vaccinated precisely because they were at higher risk of hospitalisation and death.

Stop chucking statistics around if you’re not going to do some basic QA on them, it undermines your argument.

Plus the numbers sound wrong anyway if it’s same poster

'Wait until this happens' - it happens and then it is 'wait until that happens' - it happens and then it is 'wait until that happens' - it happens - rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat. Over and over with moving goalposts. Save the NHS/Get the hospital cases down/Vaccinate the elderly and CEV, vaccinate the over 65/vaccinate the over 50's/see what the latest rebranding of covid might or might not do. Test event after test event.

A few more weeks. The a few more weeks. Then a few more weeks.

That is all we hear. NO not anymore. Open up. Let us get back to normal life with no restrictions and remember that the average age of death from this virus is 82 - past the age of normal life expectancy. Yep we all know some love it and don't want to mix with people, want to sit at home in their tiny group (many of these boards have expressed they love the simple life great live it then) - that's fine you do that if it pleases you but stop restricting the sociable of us, stop forcing your worries and anxieties on the rest of us. Keep sending kids home to isolate/keep them away from activities that support both physical and mental health - store up problems for the future.

Time to stop with this crap now.

Meanwhile I am sitting in an airport flying back from seeing my DH and I can tell you. Life outside is cracking on! The Netherlands are lifting ALL restrictions this week. No more masks. No more distancing. People are flying. The Dutch government are even paying for all holiday pcr tests for July and august for families. And we are still pulling our kids out of school with no clue when restrictions will end now the goalposts have been moved once.

I live in Portugal and for the first time this weekend, in over two years, we drove the short distance of 50 minutes over the border to Spain for a short break. The receptionist there was telling us that on the 26th of this month, they’re stopping all restrictions, all masks will be gone etc, couldn’t believe it. I hope we are able to follow suit soon.

Passthesauce · 21/06/2021 09:43

@CantGetNoSleep73 Thank you very much - fortunately our expectations are very low - one of the points I made in my complaint last year was the fact we hadn't even had so much as a leaflet from them. Still nothing!

It would massively help DD to have it confirmed though although both primary and secondary have always treated her as if he is on the spectrum. This limbo is doing her no favours at all.

Backofbeyond50 · 21/06/2021 09:44

We have damaged the lives of millions to protect the lives of thousands. If you or your loved one is amongst the thousands, it probably feels worth it - I can see you might think there is no sacrifice too great for them. But similarly, can you see if you and everyone you care about is in the millions who have had their lives damaged to protect strangers, it might seem not worth it?

And how would the NHS have coped if we hadn't. Say the vulnerable didn't shield so needed hospital treatment or caught it from their routine blood test because COVID was rife. Or 10 of thousands more over 40s ended up in hospital on oxygen like my nurse friend.
How would they get treatment for heart attacks, stokes and car crashes etc if the wards were even more full if COVID patients? Or should we have just left the low hanging fruit to die.!

Blessex · 21/06/2021 09:48

@Backofbeyond50 nobody is saying we shouldn’t have done it. What we are saying is enough already. It’s out of proportion now.

TheVampiresWife · 21/06/2021 09:53

@megletthesecond

Yabu. It's a pandemic, it's not meant to be fun or easy.
Wow.
Baileysforchristmas · 21/06/2021 09:55

One poor lady on another thread has had to isolate 7 times, 3 small children, doesn’t drive. I wonder all these people on here saying stop moaning what’s the big deal, how many times they have had to isolate with small children time and time again? I’m so glad I don’t have small children now. My daughter has one more year left, 4 weeks of this year, I’m going to do whatever it takes to keep her in school until the last day.

Backofbeyond50 · 21/06/2021 09:56

My point is that it wasn't just to protect the vulnerable which is what is implied there.
The restrictions have been shit. I know this first hand from trying to shield dh to trying to honeschool one ASD and one probably ADHD child. No therapy as unable to engage online.
But we are coming out the other side.
In recent weeks dh has started a new drug therapy for his RA.
Dd is back in face to face therapy and is have more sessions than pre lockdown.
Yes the Govt have been crap throughout bar vaccinations which seems to be going right. I feel we are just cautiously returning to normal with trial large events etc.

Backofbeyond50 · 21/06/2021 09:57

And no isolations since before Christmas for kids which is fab.

Backofbeyond50 · 21/06/2021 09:58

@Baileysforchristmas that must be tough. Clearly we have been fortunate.

solarlights · 21/06/2021 10:01

I don't get why teachers weren't all offered the vaccine once the initial squeeze on supply lifted, those who would have opted to have it would now be double jabbed, and no need to isolate relentlessly

It wouldn’t have changed a thing. Double vaccinated people still have to isolate.

Great but as long as isolation is still used at the rate it is amongst children then they are not being prioritised.

Unfortunately you only need one case. As we have here.
whymewhyme · 21/06/2021 10:10

Totally agree!! Disgusting

Baileysforchristmas · 21/06/2021 10:14

@solarlightsYeah unless you are flying in and part of FIFA then you don’t have to and it’s fine. I’m beyond angry for all the young mums and children that have been blamed for the spread and having to self isolate and other groups don’t have to.

Blessex · 21/06/2021 10:21

@Baileysforchristmas I think the G7 and now the 2500 non-quarantining UEFA officials is the straw that breaks the camels back. Why the hell should I now quarantine coming back from the Netherlands where the cases are low? I have had 5 PCR negative tests in the last week. And I am double vaccinated over 2 weeks ago. All respect has now gone.

Blessex · 21/06/2021 10:22

Sorry 4 PCR negative tests and 1 negative lateral flow!

solarlights · 21/06/2021 10:25

@Baileysforchristmas I totally agree re FIFA it’s an absolute joke. Football is clearly exempt from coronavirus. You can’t sing at a wedding but it’s fine if it’s football?!?! How can we take any of this seriously when that’s all over the news and considered ok?
