We need to learn to live with covid like we do with all other viruses, illnesses and diseases. The elderly and high risk are vaccinated… that was the goal, remember?! Like Hancock said, we will cry freedom when the over 70s are vaccinated!

There is no reason for mass testing when the young and healthy get covid mildly. My child is in tears yet again because she isn’t allowed to go to school for 10 days. A few students in her year group tested positive and all students are forced to be locked in their homes… again.

Are the sick?! No. Half have no symptoms. The others have a slight fever and feel a little tired.

This isn’t fair. This isn’t healthy. This isn’t sane. This is harmful and destructive to children. An entire generation has been betrayed. For what exactly? Over a virus which does not affect them. Over fear. Over people being immensely risk-averse. Over loss of control and people can’t take it.

It is time we live our lives and get back to normal before it’s too late. If our children hold us accountable and never forgive us, I will completely understand. We have not stood-up for them. Instead, we cowered in fear not giving a hoot about the collateral damage all these restrictions have caused. Shame on us.

@Izzypuss “a few sacrifices”. Honestly. Have you read the thread? Read about osbertsiberianhamster and her vulnerable child? Or read the ONS report that tens of thousands of people will be dead in 5 years time because of the effects of lockdown and social distancing? About the care home residents (many of whom died not of covid during the pandemic, having spent the last months of their lives isolated and in many cases confused about why their family had stopped visiting? I could go on and on and on with the examples of human suffering caused by lockdown.

I support the lockdowns by the way and support putting 21 June back. I don’t support minimising the very real suffering that has been caused by our efforts to control the spread of the virus. Lockdown has been utter cruelty.

The fact you think socio economic disadvantage is “crap” says a lot.

@beela

I'm just not totally sure what we're trying to achieve any more. What is the end goal?
I'm just here to take the piss out of all the shrieking and howling toddlers on here. No end goal, really.
mrshoho · 20/06/2021 22:25

@Izzypuss

'Another poster who completely fails to grasp the catastrophic effect lockdown has had on millions of people (especially the socio economically vulnerable), reducing it to “not being able to do some shopping”. It’s so offensive.

FFS.' Oh, I grasp it alright. Most of these people, not giving a shit about others and objecting to restrictions , are the priveleged ones who' ve probably never experienced any hardship in their lives until this pandemic! Maybe, because I have experienced hardship including bereavement, loss of parents at a young age, I'm prepared to make a few sacrifices and no, it hasn't been easy on my family. Don't spout the socio ecomic crap with me.

Yes

I have rheumatoid arthritis and was due to have my meds reviewed in April 2020. My appointment was cancelled.....Covid is also the reason why they have a huge backlog and why my phone appointment keeps getting postponed...... It's not selfish to want the ridiculous rules done away with

Wow - it's just so easy isn't it??
Fuck off covid.

There all solved - now why didn't the government think about doing that in the first place??

And all the doctors and nurses who have worked tirelessly all year, many of whom are now suffering PTSD as a result could simply have waved a hand and said, "you're not sick" to everyone.

I assume though that the VIPs will be double vaccinated?

Tbh we're currently the higher risk country. I bet those VIPs won't be so popular back at home. Many countries are restricting entry from the UK...yet their own VIPs risk bringing back a souvenir - the Delta/Boris strain.

Ridiculous all round.

I think this is fair, there are down sides to lockdowns and it has effects. But there are also lots of young people who’s lives have been significantly enhanced too. My eldest child suffers dreadful anxiety and social phobia (diagnosed not just a big nervous) and her mental health improved 10 fold during lockdown. Online classes are much better for her. She’s thrived. And she’s not alone, so we also have to recognise that there are positives from lockdown too.

Ostara212 · 20/06/2021 22:30

@osbertthesyrianhamster

Unfortunately the virus is unlikely to be bothered that people have 'had enough'.

Be very careful what you wish for here.

Like what? My trashed mental health even worse than it was because my son's tipped over the edge over a virus that 99% of people survive (my father did not, but it will have been 7 months before I can see my mother due to 'restrictions') to improve?

Gimme a fucking break. I wish for my dead child to be back. I wish for my son's autism to be cured. I wish for a EuroMillions win. See how that works? What you wish for matters for utter fuck all.

Respiratory viruses are everywhere and always will be as long as people breathe. Vaccination keeps health services from being overwhelmed and that's the best that can be hoped for.

The air's always been full of flying glass. Life is a sexually transmitted terminal disease. It's never been 'safe'.

I thought i'd seen a poster who lost their father and is still against restrictions.

I'm with you. I am sorry for your loss. I am baffled that anyone thinks a personal loss would automatically lead to a certain viewpoint.

It is bizarre how people seem to have discovered risk.

This is a very glib response to a poster who is clearly suffering a great deal with an illness which isn’t being treated because as a society we decided people like her are acceptable collateral damage to ensure covid patients get priority.

I understand why as covid is a medical emergency, but I completely empathise with why that poster doesn’t want to be told she’s going to continue to be overlooked indefinitely in favour of covid.

Lesina · 20/06/2021 22:31

shewalkslikerihanna 8 parents dead at the school where my friend works so yes it has killed adults with young children.
Well chances if that in 1 school are about 10,000-1
Honey12346 · 20/06/2021 22:32

@TheKeatingFive

Covid doesn't care about your rant OP

No because it’s not sentient, it doesn’t ‘care’ about anything.

Can we please, please stop with this phraseology. It’s so embarrassing and childish at this stage.

Agreed, not to mention it completely misses the point. People are not ranting about covid, they are ranting about the govts ridiculous rules and restrictions that are questionable at best at controlling the spread of covid...

I agree with you OP

One case in my Dds year group means they're all at home again.

And why? Because Boris was too slow to act and let the delta variant in.

While they're allowing plane loads of people in from all over the world, this is never going to be over.

And our children are suffering because of it.

@Lesina 100% agree. It’s time for the world to move on. the UK isn't the world, it's a teeny tiny part of it, we are doing very well with our vaccine roll out, when the rest of the world are doing as equally as well, that will be the time to move on. That's the thing with global pandemics, the whole world needs to be at the same stage before the whole world can move on. Boring but true, or we can all plan next years holiday in Scarbados, which is lovely by the way Wink

Naval gazer, your attitude stinks but sadly there are so many naval gazers on this thread who can't see beyond their own noses, and sadly this typifies our selfish society.
