DS was planning to go next week to visit a friend.

He had both vaccines ages ago.

It's so shit, but what can he do?

He's just left Uni.

OP posts:

My dd is the same age and would love to travel abroad. But she appreciates that we are not out of the pandemic yet and it's much easier/safer to holiday in the UK. They are young they have the rest of their lives to travel. He'll be fine Smile

3Britnee · 19/06/2021 12:41

@Tulipomania

The risk is much, much lower www.bmj.com/content/373/bmj.n1112 www.gavi.org/vaccineswork/mounting-evidence-suggests-covid-vaccines-do-reduce-transmission-how-does-work

Which is why many European countries are allowing travellers in who have had both vaccines without requiring quarantine as well.

They are only letting them in because they need the tourism money. Once the summer season is over, bet your life we're all getting locked down again.

And our lockdown isn't like the namby pamby do it if you feel like it, everyone has an exemption shit that you've got in the uk. In lockdown 1 we could only leave the house to go shopping, or to see a dr, or for essential work, or collect food pretty much. Only 1 person was allowed out. There was a curfew on those people still. Essential work was essential work, not 'essential' uk style. You couldn't even go out to walk your dog unless you lived in a flat. And even then you could only go so far, it was to literally let the dog toilet, not walk. The guardia were out with guns. They were using drones to check people weren't out walking. When you went shopping you couldn't go to any supermarket, you had to go to the nearest one to your house. If you were out, you had to have a mask on constantly. There was no visiting, no bars or restaurants open, except for takeaways. No people in or out of the town or region.

So yeah, carry on travelling for your own enjoyment rather than an essential reason, we can't have the youth of the uk missing out now, can we 🙄

roses2 · 19/06/2021 12:43

@Baileysforchristmas

We’re high risk country because we are testing so much. Do you not think it’s strange EU countries numbers are going down so fast but they are opening up more than us and they have less people vaccinated?
Good point. I'm also really surprised that the delta variant isn't being picked up in more countries.
3Britnee · 19/06/2021 12:46

Makes me laugh when people in the uk do on about how hard they've had it 😂

I didn't leave the house or see anyone other than my DH for 4 months. 17th march until the beginning of June.

There were no daily walks, then a trip to the shops then visits in the front garden here.

3Britnee · 19/06/2021 12:49

Oh yeah, you could only go food shopping once a week, not every day.

strangeshapedpotato · 19/06/2021 12:52

@Tulipomania

Oh, and he can't get a refund on his ticket either.
Good - serve him right
Jabbinell · 19/06/2021 13:11

Millennials are 40 now ffs.

Sorry about your son’s trip OP. Ignore those on here that love the fact its ruined, miserable gits.

Wilkolampshade · 19/06/2021 13:27

I'm sorry OP, yes, I know. Crap isn't it. X

SwimBaby · 19/06/2021 13:31

What would happen if we start booking amber destinations? We need to act responsibly. That’s it.

vaccinelover · 19/06/2021 13:34

Well aren't you all lovely. OP, pay for his quarantine and let him have a good time. He can repay you when you're old.

Villanelle17 · 19/06/2021 13:42

Some right miseries on here smh

3Britnee · 19/06/2021 13:45

Some of us live in these places and will have to suffer the consequences long after you've all fucked off home to your pretend lockdown 🤷‍♀️

Confusedaboutlots · 19/06/2021 13:54

not miserable generally - just tired of a few selfish people ruining it for everyone else in the long term

He's had both vaccines and will do a test. So no sympathy for you who Lives in these places. We all live in places and have all been hit hard.
vaccinelover · 19/06/2021 13:57

Why is someone who's had both jabs selfish for going abroad?

France is letting doubly vaccinated brits in for example.

3Britnee · 19/06/2021 14:01

Ok, so you all need holidays, in a pandemic, because you had such hard lockdowns. Why do you think it's ok to travel to places where people had harder lockdown than you, who will then have it harder again once you've gone?

Selfish.

3Britnee · 19/06/2021 14:02

Lockdown in the uk was a joke.

3Britnee · 19/06/2021 14:02

@vaccinelover

Because they can still be carriers 🙄
vaccinelover · 19/06/2021 14:04

@3Britnee but you can still carry it any time anywhere at any point though. When will it end ? Zero covid ? Will you then say it's not selfish for people to go abroad ? On balance, if you're testing regularly, it's unlikely you'll carry it and pass it on. We all have to live with that reality now. Domestically too !

vaccinelover · 19/06/2021 14:05

@3Britnee

Lockdown in the uk was a joke.
I think it was pretty bad. One of the worst in Europe by far.
Blessex · 19/06/2021 14:08

@Baileysforchristmas We’re high risk country because we are testing so much. Do you not think it’s strange EU countries numbers are going down so fast but they are opening up more than us and they have less people vaccinated?

Hit the nail on the head.

3Britnee · 19/06/2021 14:08

It really wasn't.

Did you have armed police on the streets enforcing the rules?

Were you allowed to leave your home every day?

Did you have a curfew?

Etc etc etc.

vaccinelover · 19/06/2021 14:13

It really was though.

We weren't allowed to see any other hose hold indoors for nearly an entire year. We were only allowed to go out of our houses for one walk and we had to stay local too.

It's not been a joke lock down and I'm sick of people saying so.

I have relatives in Germany and they were not restricted in the same way AT all. I know Italy had it worse, at certain points. As I also have relatives there. France also had a curfew. So I know what I'm talking about.

Our lockdowns were very long and very harsh too.

Melassa · 19/06/2021 14:28

@TeddingtonTrashbag

Italy’s vaccine programme has been chaotic. Never understand why mnetters are always so eager to denigrate the UK and big up any other country. I would normally visit Italy several times s year and their chaotic culture is refreshing, but not well-suited for pandemic mitigation. The reason I am not visiting this summer is precisely because they are so knee-jerk with the regulations which change weekly and from region to region.
Not at all true, unless you’ve only visited Napoli?

I’ve had my vaccine, it was organised extremely well, online booking and second dose (if not the Janssen vaccine) in under 5 weeks. I have a paper certificate and will be able to download a EU certificate from my private online medical file in the next few days. All regions except one now open with only a few restrictions now in place, such as mask wearing. Things can change weekly because it’s an agile reaction to changes in infection rates, which, much as it can be frustrating, is actually positive, as opposed to planning a lockdown for a week’s time so people go mad in pubs in the meantimeHmm.

To be honest there’s been a lot of support for quarantine for Brits as the view here is that pandemic measures were handled very badly there, one minister even suggested blocking all flights from the U.K.

Just for your info, there are a lot of things more efficient in Italy now compared to the U.K., I’m needing to deal with bureaucracy in both countries lately and the Italian side is so much simpler and most is doable online. I would never had imagined it could be so only 15 years ago. Public healthcare is better than the NHS too (in the north at least) and there are a lot more ICU beds compared to the U.K.

So no need to roll out another stereotype.

Agree, nothing like what europe had.

However, its your governments that are allowing tourists in.
