Anyone else not going to test children anymore

Baileysforchristmas · 15/06/2021 19:20

My daughter is 15, she said none of her friends are testing anymore. Why should I make her test twice a week now? All it will do is stop her going to school and us getting on with our lives, it will also stop her bubble going to school and she will get blamed. My daughter didn’t go to school for 3 months while flights were coming into the country from other parts of the world which could do as they please. Why should I take the risk of putting my daughter’s life on hold, also the more we test the more the numbers go up, Europe’s not testing secondary school children twice a week so obviously their numbers won’t be showing as high.

You may think it’s dumb but you will find many secondary children aren’t testing, also a lot of companies have tests stock piled that no one is using, it’s costing the country a fortune and they are not being used. The system needs to be overhauled completely.

This is my bothered face. 😂

You didn't really need to say this, considering you followed it up with a suggestion that shows such utter disregard for anyone else, of course your not bothered....I think we all get that!

Also in the Daily mail, well I think I might be correct about not testing anymore. 6 in 10 LFT are false positives

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9699303/Hugely-disruptive-Test-Trace-schools-axed-60-positive-results-negative.html

OP posts:
DumplingsAndStew · 18/06/2021 07:51

Didn't we all know false positives are fairly common with the LFT? That's why you follow up a positive LFT with a PCR?

It's also widely known that they give a huge number of false negatives too.

Baileysforchristmas · 18/06/2021 07:58

It’s far more than originally thought. The numbers even with a negative pcr test were still recorded, which put up the daily infection rate. This will be changed from now on. It’s not worth the risk of disrupting your life for 60% inaccuracy

OP posts:
Piggywaspushed · 18/06/2021 08:21

We have had an outbreak at our school. 90% of the LFTs positives have come back positive.

The false negatives and the ones not testing concern me more : and PHE too it seems , who have brought in mobile testing units. Nearly 90% of students/parents consented to on site testing.

mamaduckbone · 19/06/2021 07:15

My ds has been self-isolating this week due to a school friend testing positive on an LFT (they probably wouldn't have picked it up otherwise as asymptomatic)

After a week he has also tested positive. It's a complete PITA because we all now have to isolate and he's got no symptoms at all. If he hadn't tested we'd all be carrying on as normal and he would be back at school on Monday.

The consequences of that could be:

  • me unknowingly passing it on to a class full of primary children and their families (teacher)
  • ds1 passing it on to the countless people he is in contact with at school
  • any of us passing it on to my 88yo mum, who is vaccinated but as pp have pointed out, possibly less immune due to age and vulnerability
Etc etc etc. I'm going to miss out on a much needed weekend away that's been planned for months with a friend, so in a way I wish we didn't know, but how irresponsible would it be to just carry on as normal?
Baileysforchristmas · 19/06/2021 07:21

What like the footballers have? Yes they can spread it round fine. There are no cases in my daughters school, nobody is sick. I’m not testing anymore,

OP posts:
Watermelon221 · 19/06/2021 07:25

@mamaduckbone

Do they advise you to test now when isolating then?

When my dd had to isolate because of a contact testing positive before Christmas she was told not to get a test unless symptomatic. So she had to do the 14 day isolation, didn’t get any symptoms, and went back to school.

I did think then that if she got it on day 13 she would pass it around. And also if she gave it to us and we were asymptomatic, we would pass it around too, as we would still be working and oblivious.

Watermelon221 · 19/06/2021 07:30

It does seem a bit mad when you think about it though, that people are having to isolate and have all of this disruption to their lives for a virus which they don’t have any symptoms of and don’t even know they have unless they test! (Which is generally the case in kids). Especially when everyone who would be at risk of serious illness have been fully vaccinated!

mamaduckbone · 19/06/2021 07:39

My son's school had had no positive cases for 13 weeks. Now it's ripping through all the local schools. Your arguments are ridiculous and the fact you are citing the Daily Mail tells me everything I need to know.
Don't you get that this attitude is going to prolong the situation, not magically make it go away?

mamaduckbone · 19/06/2021 07:41

@Watermelon221

We've done it anyway. It just seems to be common sense. I couldn't go to work with peace of mind knowing that he might be positive 🤷🏼‍♀️

didireallysaythat · 19/06/2021 07:46

I assume the disruption PP cite is having to isolate when someone in their class tests positive? Taking the test takes 2 minutes and I have to do it for work twice a week so it's hardly a big deal that DS1 does the test at the same time.

DumplingsAndStew · 19/06/2021 07:54

I'm not sure that many people really have a problem with the time the test takes to administer, it's that if their child isn't showing signs of illness, they don't class them as ill. In other words, as long as their child is feeling okay, they couldn't give a shiny shit about anyone else.

seven201 · 19/06/2021 08:02

I really don't get the argument of but they let flights in etc. Yes they did and that was stupid and unfair. Your argument sounds petty to me.

It's easy to do a test twice a week, it takes 2 mins but could potentially stop people dying. Or in harsher words your actions might inadvertently kill someone. Personally I think it's incredibly selfish not to. I do hate all the plastic though.

Barbie222 · 19/06/2021 08:05

Poor reasoning and lack of critical thinking constantly prolong this pandemic. I'm glad this OP has had the responses she's had.

Well enjoy your self isolating weekend, I’m off to lunch with friends today and then off to London for a celebration lunch with family and friends. No I don’t feel guilty, the tests are voluntary so I’m not doing anything wrong. We have no symptoms and we haven’t tested positive or been contacted to say we have been in close contact with anyone.

You sound like a really unpleasant person.
Haiyaa · 19/06/2021 08:21

“There are no cases in my daughter’s school” along with “none of the other kids are testing so neither will I” 🤔 so how do you KNOW there are no cases? Enjoy spreading plague you selfish twit I feel sorry for anyone that has to suffer your company.

Good for you. There will always be another weekend to go away, but at least I know that my son hasn't inadvertently killed their grandma or infected half of their classmates and teachers. The mentality actually beggars belief.

You're all over mumsnet telling people to stop testing, stop self isolating, stop following the rules ...if you want to be an arse, just crack on but please stop going on about it, what do want...a pat on the back and a medal for being such a freedom fighter?

Well duh. It's human nature to only care about your immidiate friends and family, no one truly cares about everyone else.

I am deeply ashamed to be British sometimes. Especially when I read this kind of selfish behaviour. The fact the government has been incompetent, does not justify your refusal to follow steps to help control the spread of COVID.
