Not sure how Boris can stand up tonight and ask us to wait 'just another few weeks' after his antics this weekend.

Nor after seeing the scenes at countless pubs where people were celebrating the footy results

I'm 100% done now

@givemushypeasachance so what are you calling for then? More restrictions? What would you consider 'sustainable'?

MaybeCrazy2 · 14/06/2021 13:55

They should lift restrictions straight away. We already know we are going to have to go back into lockdown come winter so just give us this summer. As long as the hospitals remain able to cope, no restrictions should be in place until just before then.

placemats · 14/06/2021 13:55

@fashionablefennel

When have we ever been told to wear masks outdoors? Confused
We haven't.

I do. But that's my choice. I like my mask and I've suffered less from hay fever this year.

PattyPan · 14/06/2021 13:56

How about middle aged people deal with waiting until us 20somethings have had our jabs, thanks. Cases are rocketing in my area and I don’t want long covid because a 30/40 year old couldn’t wait a few more weeks.

garlictwist · 14/06/2021 13:57

There's been a big outbreak of covid this week at my work - it's spread like wild fire and even (double) vaccinated people have tested positive. So sadly I don't think it's over.

Cornettoninja · 14/06/2021 13:57

A Twitter hashtag trending? You mean an echo chamber agreeing with itself? Groundbreaking.

shewalkslikerihanna · 14/06/2021 13:58

@AColdDuncanGoodhew

My kids leave nursery next week. Parents were given an invite for their childs bubble; small groups of kids having their celebration of learning and tie giving. Outdoors, two parents per child for about 15 minutes, socially distanced.

Now we’ve had a letter to say we’re not allowed anymore, but thousands of people can go to football matches?! Where’s the logic?

There’s none and it would make my blood boil

TheVampiresWife · 14/06/2021 14:01

@sparemonitor

There are always selfish idiots who claim an exemption. Almost no-one is genuinely exempt. Useful that people announce in one go that they are a) dim and b) selfish.
Almost no-one is genuinely exempt? Really?

14 million adults in the UK live with disability. Of course not all of them will be exempt, but a fair number of them will be. Then you have those with health conditions which aren't always seen as disabilities but still prevent mask wearing - things like trigeminal neuralgia, or sensory/respiratory/skin/neurological conditions. Millions of people live with such conditions. Then there's rape/DV survivors who live with PTSD and cannot wear face coverings. That's just for starters.

You don't get to decide that 'almost no-one is genuinely exempt'. Assuming that someone without a mask is dim and selfish is just the sort of ableist claptrap that's been all to prevalent on MN (and in real life) in the past year. Meanwhile those of us who are exempt have been on the receiving end of abuse, threats and worse because of attitudes like yours.

"Everyone has the right to be exempt, they gave no right to ask for proof, you do not need to supply proof, you do not need to wear a lanyard and your Gp will not supply you with a letter."

Spot on! And that means that anyone and everyone can claim to be exempt just because, for example, the mask restricts their breathing and that makes they feel panicky; or it restricts their breathing because they have sinus problems, or asthma, or hay fever, or claustrophobia, or it makes their glasses steam up, so they can't see where they are walking, which is a healthy and safety hazard, or it makes them feel alienated and psychologically weird... and so on.
Exactly 👍

ZoBo123 · 14/06/2021 14:02

Can you employ all the people you have invited to your wedding to a new family company and they must attend a networking event? You can be just like the g7 then as it is a work purposes so have more than 30 outside

THIS!

My 19 year old is desperate to get out and socialise. Unfortunately the event he wanted to go to has been cancelled for the safety of the other under 25s there. It's going to be rearranged at a later date in the summer. He and his friends will be vaccinated by then. Delta variant is rising exponentially in our county. PLEASE do not mess this up for them.

lightand · 14/06/2021 14:03

I was done last June.
Complying with rules, but could see a year ago that
a. coronavirus is not going anywhere
b. government are far from doing their best

Indeed, seems to me vaccinations take priority over everything else.
So they let the virus loose in one way or another, then having got the population scared, lockdown, and do more vaccinations.
Rinse and repeat.
@givemushypeasachance so what are you calling for then? More restrictions? What would you consider 'sustainable'?
I'm not calling for anything in particular - I'm not a public health expert! But at the current rate of growth in cases, in a month or so the daily hospital admissions will start to reach the point that hospitals will struggle. That doesn't seem like the best time to say okay lets abandon the limited restrictions currently in place.

Will another four weeks of current restrictions allow more vaccinations to start to slow that growth and keep it manageable? I hope so. Otherwise if cases and hospitalisations keep growing, what do people want to do, say it doesn't matter if people can't get medical treatment they need?

TheVampiresWife · 14/06/2021 14:06

Huh? Did I miss something?

We don't 'know' that at all. Whatever some posters on here would love to believe.

bishbashbosh99 · 14/06/2021 14:06

@MRex but you've been allowed to drink and mingle since May 17th. Did you miss that announcement?

tellmesomethinghonestly · 14/06/2021 14:06

Is there an I'm done lanyard I can wear to Asda ?

Faffinator · 14/06/2021 14:07

@Cornettoninja I disagree about the echo chamber. Yes there are outliers but you can also see a gradual shift of views from the middle ground. People like me are starting to feel that all sense of perspective has been lost. We are being continually manipulated into this hyper fear and caution that is required to maintain compliance. In the meantime, politicians and the super rich do whatever they want to.

Sunnyfreezesushi · 14/06/2021 14:07

I am done too, with Covid, it is too frustrating and I have run out of patience.
However, the R number is too high to unlock further at this point so we are where we are. The Delta variant spreads like wild fire. Everyone would get it simultaneously with zero restrictions so what can you do. So there would be increased fatalities due to sheer numbers involved and long term health implications for many. The vaccine just softens the severity of illness (where it has worked). I don’t think we should risk all under 30s getting this virus simultaneously. Just look at India- they got too relaxed and it spread like wild fire. Our young deserve protection too.

SamW98 · 14/06/2021 14:07

I don't get the no dancing rule event at outdoor events. We can sit with a group of up to 30 people but we can't dance even within the same group. How does covid know when we're standing up?

Maybe because I have so many friends in the entertainment industry whose livelihoods have been destroyed over the last 15 months and are still being curtailed that this is such a big deal to me

Other countries shut their borders and stopped people from high risk countries flying in for months on end yet still will allow all and sundry to come into the UK only putting India on the red list once Bois had sorted his trade deal out

Bunnyfuller · 14/06/2021 14:08

If footy and G7 can go ahead, then so can we. I’m vaccinated, I give zero fucks for those than have declined the vaccine.

Why wasn’t G7 via Teams/Zoom or the even more advances tools of this type accessed by the govt?

Despite anything, I cringe at what it will have cost. Obvs they all had daily PCRs done, paid for by worker uk.

BarbarianMum · 14/06/2021 14:08

I'm happy (well not happy but willing) to give it a few more weeks to give all adults a chance to get their jabs if they want them. It seems a bit shit to say "I'm jabbed so I dont care" when lots of younger people spent a year curtailing their lives to protect older people and the vulnerable. Quid pro quo.

It’s interesting when you see the types posting it and retweeting- all quite botish or typically whining about face nappies and freedoms as though we’re sealed into our houses. I just envision a sleep deprived stale fag stinking deranged Tim Martin sat tweeting this to all who will listen.

ErykahBaddy · 14/06/2021 14:09

Christ, the UK really did create a complex set of rules. How does anyone even remember all that? Where I live it was more like

 • shut businesses
 • wear masks indoors and on public transport
 • some businesses can reopen but at reduced capacity
 • other businesses can also reopen at reduced capacity
 • capacity restrictions easing over time by business type
