To expect to be back in lockdown in November

Hi.... my daughter is getting married in November, I've told her to expect the 'no more than 30 ' restrictions to be in place. But I'm secretly hoping all will be normal again. So my question is aibu to advise to only plan for 30 ?(inbu) Or am I being over cautious?.... in which case I am being unreasonable . What do you all really think will be like come November? I'm also thinking it's flu season then and they my tighten restrictions to protect the hospitals from being overwhelmed. Xxx

I don't understand why you would be advising her anything? I would just keep my mouth shut and let her plan what she wants.

lughnasadh · 13/06/2021 18:42

The hospitals aren't going to be overwhelmed, pretty much all adults will be vaccinated by the end of summer.

I can't see any national restrictions being in place after that.

socialmediamishap · 13/06/2021 19:10

YABU. Be excited for her. I doubt we’d be in lockdown. Maybe rules on numbers and testing before hand though.

JellyBabiesFan · 13/06/2021 19:24

Highly unlikely, they will want the 'exit wave' to happen in summer rather than autumn or winter. There will be no delay until summer 2022 so it needs to be soon.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 13/06/2021 19:37

I’d be cautious too. The vaccines aren’t 100% effective and the new variant is far more transmissible. I can’t see this winter being restriction free.

My money is on a complete lockdown by then.

I can't see them putting a lid on the Delta variant now, and it's already mutated further, picking up the immune escaping SA mutation.

The way things are going, by the end of the summer, the vaccines we've had so far are going to be poor protection and hospitals will once again be overflowing.

I really can't see it going any other way right now - my advice - enjoy the next few weeks, because it's going to be another shit winter.

Lancrelady80 · 13/06/2021 19:48

Advise her to have a Plan A and Plan B.

Pp saying adults will have been vaccinated by then...remember that those who had the first doses back in December will have pretty much no protection left by then, so they will need to be looking at booster shots of some sort. If not, we're potentially back at square 1 where those most likely to need hospitalization if they catch it will be the ones unprotected, unless they get another jab.

I'm not expecting "normal" (a lasting normal, anyway) until next spring/summer. V much hope I'm wrong though!

StacysMomMandyJessiesEx · 13/06/2021 19:49

I hope not!!

We were hoping to return to Croatia for christmas this year! My DH hasn't seen his family in nearly 3 years now.

socialmediamishap · 13/06/2021 19:49

@strangeshapedpotato what’s your role, work wise? You seem very sure of yourself so assuming you have access to information others don’t. ‘Another shit winter’…..

Pootle40 · 13/06/2021 19:50

Yawn yawn yawn 'new variant'.

If we're not Back to normal by then the country is fucked.

Freddiefox · 13/06/2021 19:51

She’s an adult getting married, surely it’s up to her as long as she has a plan to deal with the outcome. I’d leave it to her.

socialmediamishap · 13/06/2021 19:51

@Lancrelady80 there is no evidence to suggest immunity from vaccines will be gone by then.

And what’s going to magically happen next spring / summer to make it all go away if the vaccines don’t?

Horst · 13/06/2021 19:52

I’ve got a big birthday in November and I’m expecting to do nothing for it. I wouldn’t get hopes up for anything untill this is well And truly over.

MonsterMash2210 · 13/06/2021 19:54

I personally would have a plan A, B, maybe even C.

I am hoping the winter won’t be like last year.

However, I won’t be surprised if it is.

I am just too tired to be optimistic.

newnortherner111 · 13/06/2021 20:07

I'd have a plan B but don't expect number restrictions to return. Face coverings on trains and in shops perhaps.

Ohmydaisy · 13/06/2021 20:12

Yes,it's definitely all up to her. We were just talking and I advised...in a way that mum's do... to plan for the possibility of it being restricted. Thank you for your replies xxx

Where have you got this from?

Oneliner · 13/06/2021 20:32

Unless there is a change of government, expect another variant that will evade the vaccines. Lockdown carrousel.

NannyAndJohn · 13/06/2021 20:35

I'm basing my plans for the rest of the year on the assumption that we'll be in full lockdown from mid-July onwards.

Hospitalisations are expected to reach in excess of 20000 a day and Johnson won't do anything before it's too late for anything other than lockdown.

Yes they are.

RancidOldHag · 13/06/2021 20:36

Hancock said back in April that there would be an autumn booster campaign, based on clinical need, so I'm guessing groups 1-4, maybe 1-6 or even 9. But I've not heard anything since then - anyone in the know?

I think it might be worth encouraging your DD to talk through a few options based on what restrictions could be in force (next to nothing, size limits, permitted indoors activities (dancing?)) so she can have a plan A, B, C, D etc (or shouid that be alpha, beta, gamma, delta?)

And she definitely needs to check T&Cs in respect of cancellations and rescheduling - including if post-wedding parties aren't banned, but have limits which she finds intolerable

Or you could just sing the praises of a romantic elopement?

MarshaBradyo · 13/06/2021 20:37

Doesn’t that hospital chart show the huge drop after summer?

southeastdweller · 13/06/2021 20:40

The hospitals aren't going to be overwhelmed and there won't be anymore lockdowns, because we now have vaccines.

NannyAndJohn · 13/06/2021 20:45

@MarshaBradyo

Doesn’t that hospital chart show the huge drop after summer?
The worst case scenario considered by the modelling was an increase in transmission of 50%.

The latest PHE/SAGE updates put the figure at 60%, so there's a very good chance hospitalisations will still be sky high in Autumn/Winter.

And this is without taking into account the effect of the Vietnam and Nepal Variants too.

SonnetForSpring · 13/06/2021 20:45

You still spouting this? Lol
