Is there an end in sight for no masks?

Off the back of seeing the world leaders at G7 with no social distancing or masks (yes I know they will have been fully vaccinated and tested etc)...
When do you predict we will see an end to wearing masks?
I know lots of people aren’t having to wear them if they are in offices but I work in education and our school requires them to be worn outside as well as inside, it’s been tough all year but unbearable in this heat.
Also creating a lovely sweat storm which is doing wonders for my complexion Envy

Weren't the photographs from the G7 mainly outside?
So masks not actually required in this country in most situations.

At school we now only need to wear masks outside during drop off/pick up due to a small playground but lots of people around. Indoors it's really only for meetings with external visitors and outside of the classroom if crossing bubbles or in a crowded area - but rarely now.

LongPauseNoAnswer · 12/06/2021 17:27

Not in the UK and most people in the country we live in are vaccinated. I was in the city today and many people were maskless in the less busy areas. Masks are still required in shops and busy pedestrian areas but everywhere else is mask free. I can’t wait!!

Kathunk · 12/06/2021 17:31

Yes photos were outside that I’ve seen it just got me thinking (and I’ll be honest I know they don’t have to wear them outside but I’ve lost track of the rules for instances when you can’t SD outside and it appears that they aren’t)
Our school is requiring them at all times, I don’t mind as much inside, as it’s difficult to be at a distance from the children

Having seen how cases in schools and the wider community took off after masks were removed from schools after April 17th it wouldn't be sensible to reduce their use.

I hate them, but it's pretty clear they help stop spread of an airborne virus.

The government may be governed by other factors though.

neckache · 12/06/2021 18:08

I've no idea but it's bloody boiling wearing them all the time in the hospital. Permanently sweaty and stuffy. Hate it but I doubt they will go any time soon. If anything, I can imagine us having to wear them long term for 'infection prevention'.

Sgtmajormummy · 12/06/2021 18:13

DS is a medical student. So a bit more in the know than me.
He says once vaccination numbers are over 60% of the population then herd immunity is ensured and masks outside become superfluous.

Italy is talking about no masks outside from mid July.

Get him to look up how herd immunity is calculated. It's a moving target.

Yeah I'm thinking the same about care homes.

I disagree. And BoJo and his mates had at least one picture taken inside where no masks were being worn. One rule for the elite. The rest of us can get fucked

ShaneTheThird · 12/06/2021 20:17

The advert under the op is for masks Grin

But honestly i wish they would go away already. Ive fainted twice in supermarkets due to my face overheating in masks including a paper one and a cloth one and i have bad acne from mask wearing. To add insult to injury i also ripped out my nose stud today in sainsburys on my damn mask Sad.

Its a tough one as i think it should be totally optional. Maybe businesses can implement a mask rule if people show symptoms of coughs and colds in future.

You don't think removing masks in schools was a factor in school infections taking off after April 17th and accelerating the start of the third wave?
JustABloodyMinute · 12/06/2021 20:29

I think we need to see more evidence of their impact, especially with young children. In Scotland 5+ are required to wear them (though not in school) but in England it's 12+. As a family that is reliant on public transport I am very keen to see any data on whether the wearing of masks by young children is making a difference.

AlexaShutUp · 12/06/2021 20:36

I honestly don't understand the strength of feeling against mask wearing. Yes, they're a pain in the arse, but it isn't that big a deal. I think we need to keep them for now until the situation stabilises.

daseychain · 12/06/2021 20:38

What an absolutely ridiculous statement.

It is the planeloads of people travelling from India that has caused the third wave, which was allowed because that buffoon who leads us wanted to save face with his trade deals.

Do you think if a kid in school has covid a bit of material over their face will help reduce the spread?

JeanneFrench · 12/06/2021 20:44

Agree with AlexaShutUp.

We don't know who's been vaccinated.
We don't know who's had COVID.
We don't know who's vulnerable or lives with someone vulnerable.
We don't know who's receiving treatment or about to have surgery for a serious illness, a treatment or surgery that will be postponed if they test positive.
We don't know who's a HCP who will have to stop working if they test positive.
We don't know who's just tested negative.
No one knows if they or anyone else are positive.
So we ALL wear the mask.

Sick of people on public transport taking masks off and confidently announcing, "I'm vaccinated."

Loubellbell · 12/06/2021 20:44

I don't wear one now que the selfish "think of others "

No

whattodo2019 · 12/06/2021 20:49

Nope! I think we will be wearing them in public places for years to come.

Witchesbelazy · 12/06/2021 20:51

I’ve noticed the majority of people in shops/public transport in my area either don’t wear them or have them under their chin now. Can’t blame them in this heat

Wildswim · 12/06/2021 20:52

There were pictures of them at G7 taken inside at a conference room, not socially distanced, with no masks.

I took mine off long ago and haven't worn one since.

How charming @MrsLCSofLichfield

At least I'll be able to eat the biscuit with my mask off Grin

OrangeBananaFish · 12/06/2021 20:57

Unfortunately not. I feel envious of those in areas with low compliance. I'm not bothered about wearing one myself, but I hate looking at others in masks. I never look at people's faces anymore. Even after all this time it just looks awful and I can't get used to it.

I can't wait to bin the mask, then again I'd be happy to drop all restrictions now. Its time to get back to normal. Its not going anywhere and there will always be variants. meh.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 12/06/2021 20:58

@Sgtmajormummy I’m guessing he is saying 60% double jabbed?
