Does the anti vax drama affect you?

I am seeing more and more videos surfacing from anti vax folk along laughing and joking about the vaccinated being dead within the year amongst other things.

When the conspiracy theories started when there was first talk of a vaccine I honestly laughed it off, but over a year in and now I’m double jabbed it’s getting to me.

It feels like such a divide between “us and them.” Some anti vax are now claiming they are looking to “protect people” and that’s why they are “educating us.”

Prior to Covid I was aware of the conspiracy theories surrounding the flu jab etc, my own midwife even said she was “on the fence” about the flu jab when I asked when I should have mine. But those conspiracies were very sporadic and I didn’t feel bombarded with them in the way I do covid.

These are so loud, and they are everywhere.

Is anyone else feeling the same?

I wouldn't know who is vaccinated or not unless they tell me. I just don't know why anti vaxxers insist on telling me about it.

It looks very possible that having both jabs could possibly be v beneficial with gaining access to places going forward so i guess they are ok with not being able to. Doesn't mean they'll be locked in their homes though, just mean they may not be able to do some things.

lljkk · 06/06/2021 11:09

It's obviously a case of what you're sensitive to.

I'm in a huff after Tony Blair institute openly called for vaccinated-privileges today (reported on Radio 4).

Probably The only voices I will truly hear today will be loud ones condemning the vaccine-resisters and insisting they should be treated like 2nd class citizens, they are foolish, covidiots, etc. I've repeatedly muted (30 days) a friend on Facebook for saying non-vaccinated people should be denied freedoms. Shame, since he is very witty in other ways, & has a terminal illness diagnosis. I'd like to say kind things, but he's winding me up, so I say nothing & disengage. Others will have to be nicer than I am.

@sashagabadon

Vaccination rates are very high so I would just ignore ( and paradoxically I actually am happy there are anti vaxers, we live in a democracy and have rights over what we put in our bodies) I actually had my first jab exactly a year ago as did many of my colleagues and we are all very much still alive and kicking and not dead yet Confused
a year ago?! didn’t know there were even jabs a year ago!
RainbowCrayons · 06/06/2021 11:16

I find it sad that people would laugh about people with the vaccine being dead soon. There's lots of things people do that makes them more likely to die sooner like smoking or being obese but I wouldnt laugh at those people and wish them ill. I can't understand the mentality behind it.

Me and many of my colleagues were / are on the Oxford trial @confused. So all first jabbed a year ago.
I also know a few people that were on the U.K. pfizer trial, also still alive and well Smile
This is really in response to anti vaccine claims that those that take the vaccine will be dead within a year Hmm

TheClaws · 06/06/2021 11:20

I don't have social media or watch it, but people implying unvaccinated people should be locked in their homes treated as lepers are as dangerous as the people talking about wild conspiracy theories. From my experience , the so called " anti vaxxers " are happy for everyone to make their own choice regarding a vaccine contrary to the other side who seem to foist their views on everyone else normally resulting in abuse and bullying

... Ironic, since many of those unvaccinated people were the very same ones calling for vulnerable and elderly people to be locked away in their homes while everyone else (ie. them) got on with their lives?

ah makes sense! wondered if you had the sputnik one or something!

also very reassuring that they were trialling it that long ago - totally makes sense of course

TinaYouFatLard · 06/06/2021 11:23

I see tons more vitriol coming from the other side towards people who, for their own reasons, may refuse the vaccine or be sceptical about the cost/benefit of lockdown.

Onthegrapevine · 06/06/2021 11:23

I suppose I am a prime target. I suffer quite bad anxiety and especially so with health related matters. I don’t actually know why I haven’t been swayed, I would much rather believe covid was a non issue!

I agree. I find it disturbingly similar to a war mentality. Being able to put other peoples humanity to one side so you are comfortable with the notion that they may die and can joke about it isn’t a particularly healthy or desirable trait.
sashagabadon · 06/06/2021 11:26

I heard Tony Blairs think tank calling for domestic vaccine passports today. I think he’s made some good calls generally on the pandemic but on this point I think he is very wrong and don’t agree at all

Sparklingbrook · 06/06/2021 11:29

Why do they give you that little card to say you have had both jabs? Would that not be to at some point prove you had had them to somebody in order to do or get something?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 06/06/2021 11:29

@SallyBasingstoke

I think there is more vitriol going the other way where people who haven't/ won't take the vaccine are accused of believing in microchips/ 5G etc
I actually do know someone who believes in that bollocks. They don't get to me, I think they are pathetic and just laugh at them.

I do feel sorry for those that have good reason for not having the vaccine, or for worrying about it, as they shouldn't be lumped in with idiots like that.

There is a massive divide and I am seeing some horrible behaviour from people. Most "anti-vaxxers" are actually not that. They have legitimate concerns about this vaccination but any attempt to explain that is met with real vitriol.

It is not a good time in this country.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 06/06/2021 11:35

I wish I didn't @SallyBasingstoke! I actually thought people were joking about the conspiracy theorists until they started spouting off.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 06/06/2021 11:36

Nah, I don't give a fuck. I'm secure enough in my own decisions and I don't care what others choose to do.

I think the fact that a war criminal is in favour of this moronic idea tells you all you need to know.
loulouljh · 06/06/2021 11:36

Just read above "cult-like". That sums it up really well. People with the vaccine talking about it constantly. being overjoyed, putting it onto their status, with a sticker. I find it all so very odd and indeed cult-like.

pinkearedcow · 06/06/2021 11:37

Do you really think anyone refusing the covid vaccine is part of a " movement " lol.. this in itself is one of the most ridiculous conspiracy theories there is. Secret meetings under a subway and all that?

@SallyBasingstoke

Er, no I don't think I said anything about people meeting under bridges. It is not a "conspiracy theory" to say that there are lots of organisations out there pushing the anti-vax agenda, some of them quite powerful. One is headed by Robert F Kennedy Jnr. There is also a documentary (Vaxxed) made by Wakefield, who has a very strong voice in the USA. So I would say it is a movement. Maybe watch the Channel 4 documentary that was shown a few days ago.

Of course not everyone who refuses the vaccine is part of the anti-vax movement, but they may well have been influenced by it.
