Just that really I also posted this on Aibu but posted here as well to maximise traffic?

I’m certainly not going to be comfortable if they start pressuring, scaring and guilting teens about this. We’ve taken this pandemic seriously, they don’t need to be manipulated.

SkiingIsHeaven · 06/06/2021 11:22

16 year old DS has had both Pfizer jabs. 19 year old DD has had first Pfizer jab.

Happy we are all being done.

WuhanClanAintNothingToFuckWith · 06/06/2021 11:33

Serious question - how are we going to know (long-term) how long natural immunity lasts if everyone, including the most healthy is vaxed?

This has already started I've seen it on the social media platforms my son showed me all banging the drum about getting vaccinated and doing their bit I am very concerned that alot will get this jab not to be left out, as so far anyone who's saying they don't want it is... A fucking dumb anti vaxxer
Tittyfilarious · 06/06/2021 11:55

According to the other teens who are having it

WuhanClanAintNothingToFuckWith · 06/06/2021 12:02

Well everyone’s different, and that kind of pressure is going to backfire for some people. Especially name calling and insults. My teens have certainly already ‘done their bit’ and more. There’s only so much people can take.

Tittyfilarious · 06/06/2021 12:07

My son didn't want it and still doesn't but he's afraid of being an outcast if everyone gets theirs and then he's labelled as an anti vaxxer because he's decided not to have it. He's also worried he won't be able to do things like everyone else and he will be treated differently at school this is alot of pressure for a teen to withstand its bullying them into something just to fit in.

WuhanClanAintNothingToFuckWith · 06/06/2021 12:15

That is such unfair pressure to land on them at this stage in the game! I’m going to need to speak to my teen today (the other has already made his mind up) before the headfuckery makes me and them lose the plot! Thing is, he is obsessed with triple science, and baffles me, so this could be interesting!

WuhanClanAintNothingToFuckWith · 06/06/2021 12:16

He’s also dead stubborn 😂

Geamhradh · 06/06/2021 13:06

@Notthemessiah

Up to them.

For those saying yours are having it, are you giving them a free choice or are you going to insist even if they express reservations?

Absolutely free choice. It's just been highlighted on the news here how the take up among teenagers is sky high. Hopefully, there will soon be open Vax days for them too, so they might not have to wait too long.
TeddingtonTrashbag · 06/06/2021 13:09

Rhiae who aren’t vaxxing their DC presumably gave them the MMR which contains rubella vaccine.
Rubella is a mild illness - usually symptom free in children -they are having it to protect pregnant women not themselves. So what’s the difference

Fitforforty · 06/06/2021 13:14

@PiccalilliChilli

My daughter will decide for herself at 16, when our consent isn't necessary. She currently 14 and 3/4.
At 14 she doesn’t need your consent for medical procedures.

Blood tests can check antibody levels; studies like ONS will be done to check various age groups. They'll need to do it to determine what, if any, boosters are needed for different groups.
Waiting423 · 06/06/2021 15:20

I’m leaning towards advising my 12 year old not to have the vaccine … but love to find some data to look at with them - all google is giving me is media articles … my 12 year old is pretty bright and wants to see the data !

This is the MHRA text with reasoning for the official approval: www.gov.uk/government/news/the-mhra-concludes-positive-safety-profile-for-pfizerbiontech-vaccine-in-12-to-15-year-olds. Pfizer release has details about side effect frequency if you scroll here: www.pfizer.com/news/press-release/press-release-detail/pfizer-biontech-announce-positive-topline-results-pivotal.

Thankyou for answering. I would be very interested to know some of the most recent results they have gathered from such tests. Surely this means everything to us.

Waiting423 · 06/06/2021 15:29

MRex thank you !

WuhanClanAintNothingToFuckWith · 06/06/2021 15:31

@MRex

And thankyou for the MHRA link

Stillgoings · 06/06/2021 15:37

My 16 year old has had it as his his dad is CEV. I think my 14 year old will likely have it for the same reasons.

MRex · 06/06/2021 15:40

@WuhanClanAintNothingToFuckWith - antibodies wane over time, so it is a bit more complex as other parts of the immune response (T-cells, B-cells were) may need to be looked at; at the moment there isn't a study showing a definitive "you're ok" level and it may change per variant, so I can't give you a.link to that. The latest ONS seroprevalence survey report is here: www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/healthandsocialcare/conditionsanddiseases/articles/coronaviruscovid19infectionsurveyantibodydatafortheuk/13may2021.

cantkeepawayforever · 06/06/2021 15:50

To answer the original question - yes of course. They have kept closely to the rules throughout because they want to keep others safe (DS, bless him, has also lobbied for schools to be made safer for me as a teacher), and will certainly take the vaccine as soon as it is offered for the same reason.

WuhanClanAintNothingToFuckWith · 06/06/2021 16:08

He knows way more than me, calmly put me in my place regarding white blood cells, T cells and B cells. The ONS data will be helpful if I need to use it. Highlights the usual uncertainty from the scientists. He’ll make the right choice ... on his own 🙂

Notcoolmum · 06/06/2021 17:19

My asthmatic 16 year old has had both of theirs.

DonnaDonna01 · 06/06/2021 19:29

Can I ask if you are confident for your teens to have it or are a definite no, have you based these decisions on research? This isn’t a question for argument, I’m just unsure about long term side effects for teens and haven’t yet found anything to sway me either way. Would be good to hear what others have based their decisions on.

Curatingchaos · 06/06/2021 19:31

I would rather my teens didn’t have it - yet. Although I’ve had it. However my teens want to be front of the queue, so that’s that.
The social stigma of covid is a pretty big deal to teens ime.
