I know no one knows what will happen. But I will be really angry if the restrictions end, the hospitalizations go up and we end up in lockdown again.
I know the current restrictions are really harming some businesses. But currently, a lot of businesses are able to be open and make money. People can see family and friends and children are in school and nursery.
If needed I would much rather we operate like this for longer than risk going backwards.

I'm glad you started this thread because there haven't been 48 million of these types of thread recently

x2boys · 31/05/2021 20:51

What's the alternative? If when restrictions end and cases and hospital admissions go up and the NHS becomes overwhelmed again they will have to lock down again but hopefully because of the vaccine roll out this won't happen ,but we also can't stay locked down forever .

lljkk · 31/05/2021 20:58

I would rather we open up then close down again (if closing eventually seems essential) then just stay closed down because "it's never safe enough" to lift restrictions, which truly seems the alternative.

colouringcrayons · 31/05/2021 21:03

It seems the scientific consensus is we should delay in order to get more people fully vaccinated.

Johnson will go the same fucking stupid route he has every other time which is to ignore all scientific advice.

It's not just the government though pleanty of people say they are done and won't put up with further restrictions,I think the only thing we can do is see what the data is in a few weeks, nobody really wants another lockdown but if cases rise and hospital admissions rise and then deaths most people will stick to the rules ,but let's hope this doesn't happen
userxx · 31/05/2021 21:22

I'll be very angry if it doesn't happen. Can't wait to burn the hideous masks.

Will be a waste of cash to burn them in June anyway as likely to need them again in winter.
Wherediditgo · 31/05/2021 21:25

I really cannot make my mind up on this.

On the one hand, locking down because it still doesn’t seem safe enough does seem ludicrous.

However, waiting a few more weeks if it would prevent another strict lockdown does seem sensible.

@colouringcrayons nope, I'm done with them. The mask burning ceremony is arranged for 22nd June.

hellcatspangle · 31/05/2021 21:33

I don't think for one minute they will have another lockdown and close everything on 21st June but I wouldn't be surprised if they keep things as they are for a while longer.

Wherediditgo · 31/05/2021 21:34

@kindlekeeper

I hope you burst a blood vessel in your anger. Ridiculous restrictions. What’s the point of vaccinating if we all hide away.
That seems harsh!

Well OK then. Seems a bit futile but if it'll make you happy. A bit like a kid burning their school books I guess.

The reason why scientists want to continue with lockdown is because they’re only concern is Covid - meanwhile the government and the rest of society have to deal with a myriad of other issues.

There is, currently, no good reason not to remove all remaining restrictions on 21 June

What a great idea, I still have those in the loft, l'll chuck them into the fire pit with the masks.

PrincessNutNuts · 31/05/2021 21:57

As always over the last 17 months, you can have your lockdown early before the exponential spread has chance to really get going - in which case certain types of people crow about how they knew it was just like swine flu /Y2K or similar.

Or later - after another 30-50,000 British people are dead, children's education has been catastrophically disrupted and the NHS is so full of covid patients it is unable to deal with much else.

Our government is ideologically opposed to an effective covid strategy, so those are the only options.

Take your pick

I’m starting to believe some people aren’t aware that there is now a vaccine

hopingtochangeeachtime · 31/05/2021 22:10

We could cope with opening up
1st of July yes ... hit it hard for the weekend. Otherwise I think it's too long. Lots of people are mixing anyway, it's allowed, so really we are just waiting on parties, festivals, clubs, and more capacity at places. Not looking forward to being squashed in, I like things quieter.

colouringcrayons · 31/05/2021 22:10

I think the issue is more that some people seem to think the vaccines were a magic and instant fix.

We are exactly where scientists said we would be in the middle of the vaccination programme. This was all discussed last autumn, for thse who cared to listen.

Hairwizard · 31/05/2021 22:12

They can fuck off with lockdown. Just. No. Any body still on for that shit needs to give their heads a wobble.
21st june doesnt look likely. Time will tell. But i will not be complying. Havent done anyway. Time to crack on with living not existing. They can go and fuck themselves. Ive had enough. Dp is s.emp and no way he can afford to shut gym down again.

I'm starting to believe some people aren't aware that 40% of the population hasn't had even their first jab yet
hopingtochangeeachtime · 31/05/2021 22:25

I wonder if Boris or any of his MPs read MN to help with their decisions ?

There's the people who are living their lives doing whatever they please, pretty much all the way through.

The people who follow to rules and are now mixing cautiously.

And half of MN who don't seem to leave the house still and are still washing their post and shopping.

It is about the NHS capacity ( we were told) Surge testing = more cases. I think the media just love w good story to stir people up.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 31/05/2021 22:26

The overwhelming vast majority of vulnerable people have been vaccinated

We have enough data to know gets ill and who dies from Covid

At a population level the current unvaccinated aren’t a problem
