Will 21st June go ahead?

I desperately need to know. Of course we won't until they tell us, but what are your thoughts?

Very mixed opinions in the media. Lots of advice to delay but Boris saying there's nothing he can see that would make us deviate from the roadmap.

Yes I think so. Even the indian variant concerns seem to have settled somewhat - case numbers are stabilising in the hotspots and the number of deaths is still very low.

GlacindaTheTroll · 31/05/2021 07:45

From exactly what it says in your thread title, yes of course it will - the solstice cannot be stopped

Whether we can celebrate it with a large free festival anywhere is a different matter.

I think it could yet go either way

Waxonwaxoff0 · 31/05/2021 07:49

I'm still on the fence. I desperately hope so but Boris has form for U-turning at the very last minute.

This is promising. The Indian variant is what's causing me the most doubt.

I hope it’s delayed slightly. Basically life is pretty normal now ok there’s some things you can’t do festivals, weddings over 30 etc but compared to where we were and allowed to do not much to complain about. Why risk taking that final step which could knock everything off course be happy for the freedoms we have at the moment until more data energies on Indian variant.

MarshaBradyo · 31/05/2021 07:59

Really hard to know

There might be delay but then again pressure to go ahead is there too

Fruityfriday · 31/05/2021 07:59

Apart from large gatherings what will change?

ChatterMonkey · 31/05/2021 08:00

I think itll be delayed slightly. Maybe 2 weeks or something.

ThornAmongstRoses · 31/05/2021 08:01

I think it will go ahead. Death numbers are so low now that they have to at least try and get things back to normal.

If they don’t do it based on what our current numbers are then I wonder how low the figures will actually have to be before they relax their rules on social distancing.

Zero Covid is impossible so what is it going to take?

It's large gatherings I'm hoping for. A close family member's wedding and I desperately want it to work out for them this time.

I really hope so - possibly selfishly
Supposed to be getting married on 3rd July
Majority of our guests are vaccinated
At the moment church services are allowed with 100 people and more than 100 people can eat at restaurants (albeit socially distanced). Personally I can't see a difference between these things and a wedding without the dancing!
It's making it so hard to plan the finer details because we just won't know until 14th June :(

I work in a hospital and for us, COVID numbers are relatively steady

laselvar · 31/05/2021 08:06

A week ago I would have said yes, but now I'm not so sure. After having very little disruption to local schools since they read-opened to all pupils, we had 4 local schools (1 secondary, 3 primaries) send some pupils home last week. I'm not in a hot spot.

WaitroseAldi · 31/05/2021 08:06

I hope so, Iv booked my dd4 birthday party for the end of June and il be gutted for her if it can’t go ahead!

User135644 · 31/05/2021 08:15

Yes. People pleaser Boris will go ahead with it.

Let's just hope it sticks and we aren't fucked again come September because we couldn't wait a month.

LightandAiry · 31/05/2021 08:39

I hope so, not for me but for my dc.

It's been awful for everyone. I know cancelled Prom and horrible disappointing time at uni doesn't compare to the illness and hardship, but big events marking a rite of passage whether they're weddings, proms, freshers etc - will mean so much if they can go ahead.

LightandAiry · 31/05/2021 08:45

Having said that I think if there are vastly increased amounts of 2nd jabs by 21st June we'll open up.

TimeForLunch · 31/05/2021 08:57

It's not just about us as individual though. Businesses, particularly hospitality, cannot carry on indefinitely with social distancing measures in place. Many are still struggling to break even.
I sincerely hope SD is dropped on the 21st, both personally and for the sake of the economy.
My prediction, however, is that some of the restrictions will go but not all. Sadly, I suspect masks will continue as this is an easy one for the government to use to pacify the fearful with no financial cost.

TakeYourFinalPosition · 31/05/2021 09:06

The Times today reckons they’ll keep face masks in exchange for allowing events, and getting rid of the rule of 6 for hospitality. They’ve been pretty spot on so far...

For weddings, I guess it’ll depend if the bride and groom want masks at their weddings, and if they’ve got any power to change the date.

I’m hoping so. My postponed wedding (3rd date 🤞🏻) is 11th august. Being trying to do it since April 2020

User135644 · 31/05/2021 09:16

But the teens and 20's won't have had a job (or the 3 week period after 1st jab) by 21st June.
User135644 · 31/05/2021 09:16

*jab.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 31/05/2021 09:16

I think it will be delayed especially re large gatherings. Otherwise surely he would have waited three weeks and got married with more than 30.

UhtredRagnarson · 31/05/2021 09:17

Yes, I think the 21st of June is firmly established in the calendar, it’s happened every year for a very long time and I haven’t heard of any plans to remove it. Wink

But if the face mask requirement is to placate the no vaccine crowd, they won't wear the mask either.

And i'm not wearing a mask to go to a concert.
