Will you spend time with partially / un vaccinated people?

I have severe health anxiety and after a conversation with my Dr this morning I have decided against my second Covid Jab.

I had my first AZ but I’m severely anxious about my second one and it’s really interfering with my work / home life.

I don’t want this to get in the way of being able to spend time with friends or family (who will be fully vaccinated)

I have a small child and I want to be able to arrange plat dates and days out by I’m afraid people won’t want to be around me if I’ve only had one vaccine.

It wouldn’t bother me at all if someone was unvaccinated.

And as a fellow anxiety sufferer, I sympathise Flowers

FflosFfantastig · 26/05/2021 20:00

I would never ask. I couldn't care less if my friends are vaccinated or not. It doesn't even enter my head. You don't have to reveal your private medical information to your friends anyway.

DreamingNow · 26/05/2021 21:08

I couldn’t care less if people are vaccinated or not.
I can’t spend my time policing who has done what (and then remembering that!).

Not something I would ask.

Plus of course people can lie. So what’s the point of asking?

helpmebeanadult · 26/05/2021 21:12

I probably wouldn't know if you were or not.people won't know if their kids teachers have or not etc

BettyOBarley · 26/05/2021 21:14

It wouldn't worry me and I wouldn't dream of asking!

Castlepeak · 26/05/2021 21:18

I am asking every person in my life about their vaccination status. If you are not vaccinated, I will not knowingly come in contact with you. We will definitely not socialize. If you choose not to share your status I must treat you as unsafe.

My DH is ECV. He is vaccinated but there are concerns he may not have gotten immunity from the vaccine. He has just been enrolled in a clinical study to follow up on this problem.

dragonsmoke · 26/05/2021 21:20

Interesting. I'm 57 and do not intend to take this experimental vaccine which is still on trial until 2023 and has only emergency approval.
So is your plan to shield until 2023?

What about partially vaccinated people....

It's your health - as an unvaccinated person - that is in jealousy not mine. So yes.

Minstermouse · 26/05/2021 21:26

At the moment, I wouldn’t want to be with you because our youngest, with asthma, is unvaccinated so any additional risk is not welcome.

You do realise, if you had no reaction to your first jab you are incredibly unlikely to have one to your second?

Thereafter, honestly not sure. My husband is CEV. Fully vaccinated but it’s not foolproof. We’ll only know it didn’t work for him if he gets sick. Which, obviously, I’d prefer that he didn’t. So on balance I probably would keep my distance from you.

Itsokthanks · 26/05/2021 21:26

I don't care and won't be asking people.

CorianderBee · 26/05/2021 21:27

I'm in my 20s so kind of have to...

Castlepeak · 26/05/2021 21:28

@roseyroses

We will not have contact with anyone who is not fully vaccinated which means 2 weeks after the 2nd shot.

The risks are just too high for my family.

@Castlepeak

That is completely understandable.

Interesting. I'm 57 and do not intend to take this experimental vaccine which is still on trial until 2023 and has only emergency approval. My concerns are the opposite of yours. Do I want to be around vaccinated people? I am reading a lot about the possibility of 'shedding' from those that have been vaccinated, which to be honest, scares me. However, my gut feeling is that I am not at any risk from the vaccinated.

Shedding is impossible.

The COVID vaccine doesn't have any COVID in it!

It's not a live vaccine.

Have you and your family not been into a shop, school, driven through the drive thru, taken an online delivery, had a haircut, been to a Drs appointment or anything else since March 2000? Unless you haven't done any of those things and completely lived off the land you live on, then you will have been in contact with countless unvaccinated people during this whole time?

Why is it only now unvaccinated people are seen as unworthy of any contact whatsoever, when all along (when cases and transmission has been higher) we've had contact all along in some way or another with unvaccinated people?

How many of those people are you in prolonged indoor contact with in the same way you are with family and friends?

Barring school - none. The supermarket and getting deliveries is nowhere near as close as having friends round for dinner or drinks.

School, for a lot of families, has been a huge decision. I’ve had to decide between the mental health and education of my older children and the physical health of my youngest. What’s so wrong with wanting to minimise the risks to her?

Contact with anyone has been absolutely minimised for those CEV for the best part of a year so what’s so wrong, or weird, about them (or their families) making the decision to minimise contact with the riskiest people ongoing?

I cross roads most days, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to nip across a dangerous dual carriageway anytime soon. It’s a balance.

LaPoo · 26/05/2021 22:01

I'd be less likely to want to have close contact with someone unvaccinated. I'd probably stick to garden and outdoor visits.

Tbh, I'm going to pretty much do that anyway where I can. I'm not hugely worried but I'm high risk, do a job with lots of exposure so I'm being more strict in my personal life.

Castlepeak · 26/05/2021 23:03

@Wellbythebloodyhell

My dd has been remote schooled since March 2020. We formed a pod with another family in a similar situation so she can have social time. We got lucky that her best friends family needed to shield. We get almost everything delivered. More than half of our medical appts have been done by video call. None of us got a hair cut for over a year which drove DH crazy because he was an every 3 week kind of guy. DH finally got one once he was fully vaccinated, but we called ahead, made an appt for a very non-busy time and made sure the stylist was vaccinated plus they both wore masks.

No, our life has not been without some risks. They haven’t been avoidable. We have done everything we can to mitigate those risks.

We finally have a chance to have a little bit of freedom and leave the house because of the vaccine. We can only do that and have real contact with people if we know that they are fully vaccinated.

Castlepeak · 26/05/2021 23:05

And all our online deliveries are contactless. We have a sign on the door detailing the situation and the procedure. Not a single driver has complained. They generally text if they have questions, but we also have a speaker available.

RedRiverShore · 27/05/2021 06:15

I haven't a clue about other peoples vaccination status and don't care. It just seems like loads of people are bothered because the few that are post on social media all the time about it.

Bluesheep8 · 27/05/2021 06:59

We will not have contact with anyone who is not fully vaccinated which means 2 weeks after the 2nd shot.

Fully vaccinated people can still get and transmit covid though.

Goodasgolden · 27/05/2021 07:05

Just don’t tell anyone. The vast majority of people won’t ask, anyone ECV may check so it might only affect your interaction with them.

Remmy123 · 27/05/2021 07:09

@Castlepeak you called and asked a hairdresser if they were vaccinated before a hair cut? They must have thought you was off your rocker 🤣🤣

That is excessive. Especially if DH is fully vaccinated.
