Our DS is home educated though so we don't have the school risk factor, and we both WFH.

NicknamesAreLikeKleenex · 04/06/2021 10:31

A thirty something with one vaccination should be at lower risk of negative outcomes than a fifty something with two though.

NicknamesAreLikeKleenex · 04/06/2021 10:33

However of course it’s your own risk assessment to take, to my mind this absolutely falls in the zone of “judgement call” where either decision is reasonable.

Needanewhat · 04/06/2021 10:34

I'll consider over the weekend. Can I say how grateful I am for this thread, I find the data and numbers super helpful as I am totally maths illiterate.

JanFebAnyMonth · 04/06/2021 10:43

Well if you’re home schooling one trip to a museum will leave him/ you at far lower risk than the average child, I’d say!

UserEleventyNine · 04/06/2021 10:50

I've been in London this week. I wouldn't go in a museum currently, but that's a personal choice because I don't like wearing a mask. But for a day out in the sunshine walking around seeing the sights it was fine - wonderful to be back there after so long, seeing people enjoying themselves. There were half term visitors out and about, but not huge crowds.

I'd use buses rather than the Tube. I went in two Wetherspoons - both very spacious, not at all crowded and very good measures in place. Anywhere like that would be fine.

I'd say, if you want a day out, go, but do a bus ride and a walk rather than the museum.

Needanewhat · 04/06/2021 10:51

I live in London so I'm well up on what general busy-ness is like :)

wintertravel1980 · 04/06/2021 10:56

One mathematician's view on the PHE report released yesterday:

twitter.com/JamesWard73/status/1400720398480809985

So, how am I feeling after all that? Well, to be honest, not much different to how I was before yesterday. The bad news on hospitalisations is balanced by the hope that the transmission gain / SAR might be a bit lower, and there’s no real change on vaccine efficacy.

Some may challenge why I’m not more concerned about the hospital data. And it’s clearly bad news. But for me, it all comes back to this old thread by @AdamJKucharski about the trade-off between transmissibility and severity.

In the meantime, the usual zero Covid crowd on twitter is overemphasising the negative (potential increase in hospitalisations) while ignoring the positive (drop in secondary attack rates).

Needanewhat · 04/06/2021 11:00

I never know who to believe on twitter!

everythingthelighttouches · 04/06/2021 11:13

wintertravel1980

I really like James Ward.

It really does hinge on the exact transmissibility now and I think it could still turn out to be up a bit yet.

Fingers crossed not though, as he and Adam Ky hardline say, transmission is the real problem for us right now.

Hope to god it’s not both Sad

everythingthelighttouches · 04/06/2021 11:13

*adam kucharski that should say

Breaking News: UK approves Pfizer for 12-15 yr olds

@NicknamesAreLikeKleenex

London isn’t looking terrible yet but it’s definitely deteriorating, heading from grass green into teal. Hounslow and Ealing seem to have levelled off but everywhere else is up at least 50% on the week. Tubes are busy.
Can you link to the data that says everywhere else in London is up at least 50% on the week? I don't see this in my borough at all (yet) although it is creeping up.

@Needanewhat As for museum next week, most children will be back at school, the museum should have covid-safe protocol in place. Just avoid the rush hour, so ideally travel after 10pm and before 3.m. or take a look at a map to see where you can walk as there are a lot of parks close by.

NicknamesAreLikeKleenex · 04/06/2021 12:10

That was just from a quick look at the MSOA map. I checked a bunch of boroughs and they were all up 50% plus but I probably missed yours.

herecomesthsun · 04/06/2021 12:41

approx 1 in 200 11-16 year olds have coronavirus. They are the highest group by a significant margin. As it happens, a vaccine is also approved today.

ONS survey here

herecomesthsun · 04/06/2021 12:41

oops Pfizer vaccine for ages 12-15 approved today

EasterIssland · 04/06/2021 12:50

Do you think many teenagers will get vaccinated ?

TheSunIsStillShining · 04/06/2021 12:56

Is there any news of rollout/registration for teens?

ThereIsAGreenHillFarAway · 04/06/2021 13:00

To be fair the MSOA lags by a few days so by next week it could be over 50% but at least from a very low rate.

Needanewhat · 04/06/2021 13:04

My postcode (SE London) had 3 cases last week, which was apparently a 50% increase on last week.

herecomesthsun · 04/06/2021 13:12

@EasterIssland

Do you think many teenagers will get vaccinated ?
Ones with asthma? Ones on immune suppressant medication? Ones who were shielding with their families? Probably.

I think that if vulnerable kids have to go into overcrowded classrooms to get an education, when their demographic group has the highest incidence of infection of all, then they should have the choice to get a jab.

Piggywaspushed · 04/06/2021 13:19

I think they will virtually all get the vaccine. Take up in schools for all vaccines nudges 100%.

Firefliess · 04/06/2021 14:01

@TheSunIsStillShining

Is there any news of rollout/registration for teens?
Matt Hancock says on Twitter that the JCVI will now device if/when to vaccinate them. I'd have thought they'd do 16-18 ASAP (ie straight after 18 year olds), and 12-15 at the start of September
MRex · 04/06/2021 14:05

Why do you think they would wait for 12-15? Earlier doses will build immunity before going back into school. I think they'll target all willing arms by end of July (but call it end of August).
