Is there another lockdown now or not?

BBC is showing new guidance for Bolton, Blackburn, Kirklees, Bedford, Burnley, Leicester, Hounslow and North Tyneside.

Is this supposed to be another lockdown? I’m confused.

No. Did you actually read the article? You are advised not to travel in/out of the areas. Strongly advised to see people outside rather than inside if you live in these areas. That’s not a lockdown.

Overthebow · 25/05/2021 06:24

Yes I did read it, it’s a confusing article. I thought we were unlocking, not imposing more guidance.

It certainly feels like additional (guidance) restrictions for those areas.

Overthebow · 25/05/2021 06:28

Can people from these areas still go on holiday in half term?

OP posts:
Mintjulia · 25/05/2021 06:29

Those areas have an increasing caseload of Indian Variant Covid.

So stay away, or if you have to go there for essential work etc, be very vigilant with distancing, masks, hand hygiene.

Is that so hard to understand?

Mintjulia · 25/05/2021 06:30

Advice is not to travel out of the area, so holidaying out of area at half term is not advisable. Which is a bit grim.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 25/05/2021 06:35

Its guidance because they dont want to have to announce they are locking down an area again. The government are burying their head in the sand

It could well turn into a lockdown as a country we tend to ignore guidelines.... It will then need to be longer and harder. They also dont want to close the schools which is probably necessary.

It's really just the government being spineless.

IHeartKingThistle · 25/05/2021 06:35

Oh God. My parents have just moved to a village outside Leicester and are desperate for the DC to go and stay at half term. Do we not go???

Yes considering we are supposed to be unlocking and half term is less than a week away.

Outside Leicester is very different from inside Leicester, we are outside Leicester, safe as houses here!

It’s outside Leicester- so should be fine? They’re saying Leicester... not Leicestershire.
Lissy23 · 25/05/2021 06:47

I’m gutted about this. I’m not in those areas specifically, but I’m very close...I’m in Calderdale. We had additional restrictions last time. I’ll be so gutted if we’re back in that situation again. I’ve got lots of trips booked and seeing my family/friends who I haven’t seen in over a year. We’ve not been included yet, but I feel it’s just a matter of time 🙁

If it’s outside Leicester it might not be included? You could go but stay away from Leicester.

It’s just the same areas over and over again. What about the poor people in these areas that are being sensible. It’s devastating for them and there’s nothing they can do to help the situation. Clearly something else needs to be done in these areas.

Like what? They’re already doing surge testing and surge vaccinations. It’s either lockdown these areas or leave it and see what happens?

Its advisory just now, but I'd be hoping they make it mandatory sooner rather than later if its needed.

People won't listen to "advice" and the government are far too slow at taking action. They've not learned anything

Patters4779 · 25/05/2021 07:01

I'm in an affected area and most people are being more careful again. However I've had 2 vaccination dates cancelled...hoping 3rd times a charm on Thursday.

I've personally not gone "back to normal" yet at all. My son in CEV and its just a bit risky until he gets his 2nd vaccine next week.

freckles20 · 25/05/2021 07:02

I live in Leicester and I had absolutely no idea about this until I heard it on this morning's national news. Apparently it came into force on Friday. It was not advertised or mentioned anywhere at all that I'm aware of.

Since Friday we have been shopping, eaten indoors in a party of 6, DH has been to watch Leicester City play in the stadium surrounded by lots of people and travelled to London on the train twice.

Many many people have been enjoying lockdown realises- not least because we have been effectively locked down without any relief since all this began.

People were and are on their knees. Leicester has had such a hard time and it feels like the decision makers just cast us off like lepers. Why on earth hasn't this been publicised and managed? It's hardly the way to get people to comply, and before we know it the variant will have moved from these hot spots to the rest of the country.

newnortherner111 · 25/05/2021 07:04

It is nowhere near the restrictions even pre 17 May. Nothing is being closed.

Wheelsontheredbus · 25/05/2021 07:04

Can I ask why this is necessary? If deaths and hospital admissions are staying low?!

KatChocolate · 25/05/2021 07:04

Seemed that the guidance was updated on Friday but the Gov decided not to tell anyone.

KatChocolate · 25/05/2021 07:04

My friends and family do listen to the advice. We weren't aware of it though. We watch the news, read the papers- we don't have our heads in the sand.

Your post reads a bit as if you've labelled residents of these cities as non compliant. That's not true of many many of us and it is unfair. It's becoming unbearable for Leicester, and pointing the finger isn't helping.

Overthebow · 25/05/2021 07:06

On Friday? So people have had the whole weekend without realising? Hoe has this happened without being publicised?
