Take the vaccine or not

crazemaze · 22/05/2021 09:40

I have been invited to have my vaccine 2 months earlier than I should have been called.

However, I am feeling very conflicted and stuck on my decision to take it or not. I am a young female in her mid 20's and one side I am like do I want to inject something that is not fully tested and long term effects are not known , and the other side I am like everyone is taking it and I should take it also.

Give your views pls

its up to you. Its more important for groups 1-9 to have had it in terms of getting out of restrictions

Almost all healthy people in their 20s won't end up in hospital so you wont affect the current lockdown position (gov have stated cases don't matter, only nhs pressure which you wouldn't contribute to)

However with travel and covid passports, it may be more convenient in the future if you have had it

Lovelanguedoc · 22/05/2021 09:47

It has been fully tested. What 'long term effects' are you expecting? If you are ill five years after the vaccination, will you be blaming it on the vaccine?
You should already know what side effects to expect - a sore arm, maybe feeling unwell for a day or so, and that's it. Many people don't even have these, except for the sore arm.
You are more likely to have long term effects if you catch Covid.
If everyone was as hesitant as you we would finish up in lockdown again and many more people would die.

GalesThisMorning · 22/05/2021 09:49

Take it. If nothing else you are very unlikely to be allowed to travel internationally in the future without being vaccinated. Just put your trust in the medical professionals and take it.

Maybe read some of the other many threads asking this exact same question on this board?

How many slight variations on this type of post are we going to get, or is it the same person name changing?

crazemaze · 22/05/2021 10:15

Vaccines take years to come out and years of testing, and this one has come out in a year. Pardon my worries.

It was simply to hear peoples views on it, but its people who attack others that just make you question it all. Its full on control from the government to not even be allowed to potentially travel without the vaccine. It just feels like humans are the trial of this vaccine and everything is being tested on us.

I have done a lot of reading and long term effects are still unknown and no I am not talking about a sore arm. I just have worries like a lot of people and its my right to feel this way, I am not going to follow a trend because everyone says so! Were not lab rats that's all.

No, this is my first post on this.

Just take it. Most people will.

Jesus. It seems actually like you have done very little reading? If you don't understand what you are reading perhaps a discussion with a medical professional is in order? They can explain to why it takes years for medical products to come to license and why this has taken substantially less time. In brief, the answer is funding. Absolutely no reduction in testing has occurred - testing has occurred in parallel. As you have done lots of reading, you will be aware that no vaccine has ever caused delayed side effects years later. Any side effects become known in the first few weeks after the vaccine is administered, like the blood clots for example.
TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 22/05/2021 10:25

Take it. Long term effects of covid are also not known but likely to be worse.
While you are right that we have only had a year to see the effects, you can set that against the fact that many millions of people have now taken the vaccine compared to most new drugs which are not taken by nearly as many people. Thus the chances of something rare being picked up on with this are much greater.

Topseyt · 22/05/2021 10:26

Take it. It absolutely has been well tested. I've had both of my doses. No side effects at all and that is the same for everyone I know.

It wasn't just rushed out in a year. A lot of the groundwork and some testing had already been done for the original SARS virus years ago. This mostly picked up where that left off.

This.

'i am not going to follow a trend because everyone says so! '

Well don't then. I think it's a daft decision but it's your decision to make. The vaccines have been fully tested and are perfectly safe. I was really unwell after my first dose but it passed after a few days and I would do it all again for the protection that both doses provide. Im also a vaccinator by the way

You want an opinion - have the jab!

footballmom · 22/05/2021 10:33

If you get the chance, look up Sarah Gilbert podcasts on the AstraZeneca vaccine. She has lead the manufacture, testing and research. It's based on an already tested SARS vaccine that was shelved over ten years ago as wasn't needed anymore. So their starting point for producing a vivid vaccine was to use a product that already had ten years worth of testing/safety/efficacy checks. And regardless of that, the first trial of AZ started more than a year ago. My friend was part of the original trial and had her first AZ last April and her second in May. She is absolutely fine. She has gone on to have a baby. She has still got the antibodies/Covid immunity.

And there have been millions of not billions of people worldwide now who have become vaccinated already.

Also if you "read a lot" about the vaccine manufacture you would also know the facts. Which are that absolutely no shortcuts have been taken in the vaccine testing. Sometimes each stage in testing might, in normal stages take several years in order to devise a product, get funding, get backing, arrange meetings for approval with ethics committed/MHRA etc.
However with Covid, meetings were expedited, funding available immediately... basically all red tape and waiting times removed in order to get through the stages quicker. I also read that some stages were completed in parallel to each other as well.
But no stages were bypass and the regulatory bodies are pretty robust.

MRex · 22/05/2021 10:33

If you're conflicted and uncertain then you should err on the side of caution and follow the medical advice for your age group made by those who have actual knowledge and experience in this area. Their advice is to be vaccinated as soon as it is offered to you.

User72642 · 22/05/2021 10:40

You do know about the mandatory other vaccines, such as yellow fever to enter certain countries? This is nothing new, it's about governments protecting their citizens.

mrsbitaly · 22/05/2021 10:46

It is up to you. You clearly have doubts and have given your reasons for your doubts, are you just wanting someone to reassure you not to have it? We are so lucky to be able to have the option to have a vaccine there are so many people dying in other countries who would give their right arm for this. I will be having it, no I don't know how this will affect me in the future but I do know what COVID can do to friends and family health and lives and I'm willing to take the risk. I don't understand these posts as you will have so many opinions and so many people say its a conspiracy and all sorts. Only you know in your self if you want it or not. If you need real medical advice then speak to your doctor about your concerns.

I'm not sure whether you are being deliberately obtuse, or have been living in a different universe from the rest of us .
The testing of the vaccines was done in a parallel way rather than a linear way. That's why it took less time than would have usually been the case. I don't know where you've been that you have missed that.
You ought to be very grateful to the scientists who have made it possible.

Go and study the threads on the Coronavirus board (where you have posted). There are approximately another 3 million on this topic. (I exaggerate for effect). Every single thing you want to know has been answered again and again and again.
Then when you've bottomed it out to your satisfaction, go and have the jab.

Quiero · 22/05/2021 11:32

It just feels like humans are the trial of this vaccine and everything is being tested on us.

Who should the trials be tested on? Kangaroos? Puppies?

There are some reasonably well thought out threads on here by people who are worried for a number of reasons but genuinely seeking reassurances...then there’s crap like this and it just adds to the anxieties and fears. Get yourself onto the David Icke forums, there’ll be loads of people on their who can validate your thoughts.

I think 3 million might be an under estimate Grin
