Anyone not having vaccine , why aren't you?

Is anyone not having the vaccine and what are your reasons? Im in my 30s I'm not having the vaccine because I'm worried about the long term effects that might not come to light for a few years. Why are you not having it?
If you think the vaccine is amazing and anyone not having it is selfish you probably don't need to comment.

@imforourfreedomback because some people ignore stuff
I tell people constantly not to drive their car with a red warning light on. Probably 50% of people ignore me, say it's fine, or carry on along the motorway then complain when it blows up and needs a new engine
You would think that when a car is flashing up red and saying STOP that people would be queuing to book in. Nope 🤷🏽‍♀️
It would take a TV/radio/billboard for some people to get it

Crappy comparison but it's the best I can manage right now!

@imforourfreedomback

For everyone who is pro Covid vaccine, please can you answer this question:

Why is the government spending £320 mil on Covid 19 Media buying services 2021-2022?
www.contractsfinder.service.gov.uk/notice/6043d1fd-1f8c-4232-a32a-a658e19abcb1?origin=SearchResults&p=1

Why are they so desperate for us to have the vaccine? If this virus is as deadly as they say it is, there is no need for this massive expenditure. People would queue day and night to have it done without any government propaganda.

I am not anti vaccines- myself and my family are up to date with our vaccines but I do question the government's desperation and I wonder why others follow blindly what the government is feeding them.

The government are desperate for everyone to be vaccinated so life and the economy get back to normal.

What other reason do you think there is?

@GAZMAZ - please indicate your source for the miscarriage data and what are the numbers for pregnant women receiving the vaccine who have gone on to miscarry?

You don't actually attribute those miscarriages to the vaccine in your post I note.

Backofbeyond50 · 22/05/2021 13:25

I am also interested in the data for the 17 years immunity as surely it is a novel virus so we won't know exactly how immunity. Not a science geek so I may be wrong.

Cinclus · 22/05/2021 13:25

it gives you immunity for at least 17 years and counting if you've had it

😂😂 how do you know that?

imforourfreedomback · 22/05/2021 13:27

@keeponkeepinon I am not expecting you or anyone else to continue social distancing. I want life to come back to normal and I don't expect anyone to do anything to protect me. I want my freedoms back especially the freedom of choice. And I also want this manipulating propaganda to stop

I should imagine many of those not taking the vaccine are content taking their chance with the virus (not talking about those who can't have it obviously) so they aren't wanting to be 'protected' by those who have. There are also those who have recovered from Covid, have a level of immunity in the form of antibodies etc and those people are contributing to herd immunity that way. People seem to think that it's only the vaccine that gets us to herd immunity. It's a very narrow viewpoint

XenoBitch · 22/05/2021 14:28

@keeponkeepinon

If you don't take the vaccine, it's your choice, but you can't expect everyone to continue social distancing, isolating and missing out on life to protect you.
I don't. That would be selfish.

I expect that's based on the people having the original SARS virus showing strong T cell immunity 17 years on from infection. I'd say it's a good indication that similar immunity may result from infection with SARS-COV-2, but of course it's just an assumption at this point based on data after 12 months of infection.

bumbleymummy · 22/05/2021 15:07

@HarrietOh but we don’t need everyone to be vaccinated in order to achieve that. Look at how much hospitalisations and deaths have dropped and there are several people in the top 9 groups who haven’t had their second dose yet.

Ju11tne · 22/05/2021 15:15

@imforourfreedomback did you volunteer in the hospitals in the height of Covid? Did you make PPE? Because you needed to have seen the Covid wards it was horrendous for the staff and to speak to the patients relatives VIA phone.

The government wouldn’t be spending money for no good reason would they? They probably wouldn’t bother.. however it’s costing the government more to pick up the slack... such as furlough, job losses and people claiming more benefits.

Aebj · 22/05/2021 15:21

I’m unsure about the vaccine. I’m 46 and live in Australia. We’ve had very few cases and apart from no free international travel , life is normal here. My kids go to school, I don’t have to wear a mask, I can go to the gym and work, I can have friends to my house and watch sport ( Optus stadium can take 60,000, or can be filled if they can sell all the tickets!!) we have only just started to vaccine over 50’s .
6 months ago I was very against the vaccine, I’m now on the wait and see what happens in the world. My main concern is the side effects for my boys ( they turn 18&16 this year). Will it effect their fertility? How will effect the mother and will the mother be able to breast feed if she so wishes etc.

somuchcoffeeneeded · 22/05/2021 18:11

@Aebj I had my first dose and baby is breastfeeding just fine. Second dose to come.

penni00 · 22/05/2021 18:26

Anyone seen anywhere estimates how long one dose of AZ could provide immunity for, - I don't suppose this could be years too! Wishful thinking, because I do not think I can have a second dose.
Anyone seen any scientists giving an educated guess on this?

penni00 · 22/05/2021 19:31

The Telegraph is saying one dose of AZ only gives 33% protection against the Indian variant, yet two doses gives 80% or more.
Is this really correct, is it to encourage people to get their second AZ dose?

WeAreTheHeroes · 22/05/2021 19:33

Yes - I sure the Pfizer had a smaller difference between efficacy of the two does, but AZ was markedly different.

penni00 · 22/05/2021 19:42

Really fed up now, 9 weeks of AZ side effects, and now the only choices are another dose of the AZ or nothing, if I go for nothing then at best 33% protection from the Indian variant until that wanes.
I JUST WANT THE PFIZER!!!
Feel like swimming the Channel to get it!

WeAreTheHeroes · 22/05/2021 19:54

What side effects have you got?

penni00 · 22/05/2021 20:05

Headaches/eyes sensitive to light. All improving but still present. Found quite a few others on here with headaches for weeks after AZ, a few with eye issues too.

Backofbeyond50 · 22/05/2021 22:09

If it is any consolidation the 2nd dose of AZ seems to generate less side effects. All I had this time was a sore. Arm. Yet 1st time I had headache, fatigue etc.
Others I spoke to said the same.

Imperialheaven · 22/05/2021 22:18

No but there is something called manners and not getting into other peoples personal space. I value my personal space and try hard not to get into other peoples so if they are inconsiderate enough to get right in my face then they can deal with it if they catch something. I actually would love to see social distance remain to a certain extent. Giving people space in shops and on pathways is considerate and easily done!
