Is anyone else still getting their DC to change clothes when they get home from school?

Just that, really. I can't work out whether I'm being ridiculous and storing up mental health issues for my poor kids in the future, or just being sensible. I am already feeling like I've mucked this up and scarred them for life, so please don't tear strips off me, but I'd be really grateful for a quick straw poll.

Yes. Not because of covid though, just to get into something more comfy. I don’t stay in my work clothes either, nor DH.

duvets · 20/05/2021 06:52

Yes ours change either into regular home clothes if going outside to play, or into loungewear / pyjamas if staying inside. So much comfier!

idontlikealdi · 20/05/2021 06:52

Mine always get changed when they get home but that's to try and get another day out of the uniform / get into some comfy clothes.

Notonthestairs · 20/05/2021 06:59

Yes but they always changed after school.

Kottbullar · 20/05/2021 07:06

Mine have always washed hands and faces and changed out of uniform as soon they get in.

CeibaTree · 20/05/2021 07:10

We always have but have done pre coronavirus. School uniform is for school, home clothes are for relaxing at home/doing activities. My mum always got us to change when we got home so it's just the norm for me.

Hollyhead · 20/05/2021 07:12

No surface transmission is not really a big issue.

delightfuldaisy19 · 20/05/2021 07:23

No

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 20/05/2021 07:25

Mine change because white shirts and damp gardens don't mix!

As for Covid on clothes... DH was working outside the home throughout. In and out the house all day sometimes. (Usually out in morning, home for lunch, then out until dinner). Sometimes popping out for 30mins in middle of the night. If he had to change and shower every time home hed have run out of uniforms before the end of the day...

helpmum2003 · 20/05/2021 07:29

No, but I never did.

bonbonours · 20/05/2021 07:32

No, never have unless they are changing into sports clothes for an activity etc. My son sometimes likes to change into his onesie though.

Transmission on surfaces is very low.

doubleshotespresso · 20/05/2021 07:35

DC here not in school still (not our choice!) but any time any of us are outside the home, we change clothes immediately once we get back home and clothes go straight into the machine.
Think it's more of a habit now as opposed to hysteria, not sure when we would or should stop this tbh, it's all feeling a bit worrying again now...

Rillington · 20/05/2021 07:42

Never have done and I am CEV.

EsmereldaMargaretNoteSpelling · 20/05/2021 08:23

Nope, never have done. Both wear clean uniform every day and both seem perfectly 'comfortable' during the evening. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 20/05/2021 08:26

No op - this isn’t normal if you’re doing it for “covid” reasons. Perfectly normal if you’re trying to protect the uniform from play doh/ink/mud

fredberr · 20/05/2021 08:33

No. Were we supposed to? Missed that memo.

Seesawmummadaw · 20/05/2021 08:35

They always have, not because of covid.

eurochick · 20/05/2021 09:15

No, never did.

Feelingbad2 · 20/05/2021 09:18

No and never have done

ineedaholidayandwine · 20/05/2021 09:19

Mon-Thur no as she's in after school club so by the time she gets home it's cook dinner, half an hour TV then bed, doesn't seem worth her getting changed.
Fri she come straight home after school so gets changed then, but not because of covid

Remmy123 · 20/05/2021 09:26

Never did that. Totally ridiculous

Forestiere · 20/05/2021 09:29

Yes, DS gets a quick shower and his lounge wear on - that's for comfort though rather than to do with covid.

Jackielaffertyiscold · 20/05/2021 09:31

Never have done this

89redballoons · 20/05/2021 09:40

My brother is a teacher, and from March 2020 to September 2020 was living with his partner's parents who are in their 60s. He used to do this at the start of the pandemic just to ensure that he was doing everything he possibly could to reduce the risk of transmission to his in-laws.

They've now moved out to their own place and he's stopped doing it, both because we know more now about how covid transmits and clothes aren't really the issue, and because they had Covid over Christmas (and were fine) and he does regular tests, so it seems vanishingly unlikely he get it again and pass it on and make anyone very sick.

Angel2702 · 20/05/2021 09:46

Yes but they change straight away when they get home anyway and I put the uniform wash on. Mine are using PE kit lots so have to wash and dry overnight.
