Limited travel list for the foreseeable future

So Boris has said that the number of places we can travel to is likely to remain extremely limited for the foreseeable future

It was very all depressing

The government clearly don’t want us to travel and this gives them the perfect excuse to keep the options of places to go extremely limited

It wouldn’t even surprise me if travel was banned altogether again

Not sure how much more of this we can all tolerate ☹️

I don't think many countries will want us there.

Sumerisicumenin · 14/05/2021 19:18

I can understand people with family in other countries being desperate to see them, but it’s daft that a foreign holiday is being seen as an essential human right by so many.

There’s a lot I personally can’t tolerate, but restrictions on holidays isnt one.

SonnetForSpring · 14/05/2021 19:25

Yes Pootle, whatever you say.

SonnetForSpring · 14/05/2021 19:26

Other countries are not going to want to import the Indian variant. Its common sense really.

It’s horses to courses though isn’t it?

Everyone will have their own break point - this is mine

I’m fucking sick of having my life dictated by the government

We have to get on with life and live with Covid

I think it’s sensible tbh. I adore travel but don’t want to go when it’s weird - I really don’t see the point. I’d much rather have more freedom at home than travel abroad at the moment.

ChatterMonkey · 14/05/2021 19:34

Tbh im not going to lose any sleep that I can't have a foreign holiday, in the current situation.

Seems like sensible restrictions to have in place.

I couldn't agree more! Smile

Doomsdayisstillcoming · 14/05/2021 19:39

Where were you planning on going?

It’ll be 2 years before I fly again (since I last flew Jan 20 to SE Asia), I imagine. Feel quite good about it. I’d rather have 1 long haul every other year than a short haul European trip once a year.

This should really be the reality check people need. Flying for a weekend with lads in Prague, a week in Benidorm, or a week in Chamonix, is a fucking privilege, not a human right.

jumpbounce · 14/05/2021 19:43

Restrictions on holidays are sensible. Yes it's nice to have a holiday but is it essential no. Should there be travel allowed for family visits...yes I think there should given that people can visit family within the UK from Monday and hug them then of course there should be something in place to allow people who's family live abroad to be afforded the same right but just because someone wants a break then no. You can have a break without travelling abroad right now it won't be forever.

Most countries (even Australia) have already detected the Indian variant in their country. The difference is that they don’t make a song and a dance about it.
Getyourarseofffthequattro · 14/05/2021 19:50

Yes you can have a break. In an overpriced caravan or lodge in the pissing rain. Fun.

I don't want to holiday in Britain unless the climate becomes that of the med.

I'm not even sure I believe it won't be forever.

BeachyPeaches · 14/05/2021 19:52

Personally we are missing our family in Ireland. We like so many others are desperate to see them abs let them meet our newest addition, especially the elderly relatives.

I am not fussed about holidays right now, but definitely missing family.

Some people have and will never be in a position to have a holiday of any description and would be only to glad to sit in a caravan in the rain I'm sure. If you don't want to do that then just forgo the holiday this year and you can get back to sunning yourself in the Med whenever there's not a pandemic! BTW I've had many holidays in the rain, fun is what you make of it, there is never bad weather just inappropriate clothing.
Barbie222 · 14/05/2021 19:57

I think there's a lot worse to tolerate than the lack of a holiday, to be fair.

That's nice for you Confused glad you feel good that your holidays are sooooo much classier than everyone else's.

DoYouRememberTheInnMiranda · 14/05/2021 19:59

This is part of what living with Covid entaila at the moment. It's not like living and not going on holidays are mutually exclusive.

Tal45 · 14/05/2021 20:04

Holidays abroad are what I miss most - even more than family to be honest as I only see them a few times a year anyway. Holidays are what keep me going and unless they're on the red list I'll be going to Spain this summer like I did last summer.

EileenGC · 14/05/2021 20:05

There is living with Covid and appropriate restrictions, and there is ignoring the science and blaming it on the variants.

I’m in an EU country that would happily welcome UK tourists, as long as they comply with the testing and quarantine requirements due to being a ‘variant of concern area’, and abide by our restrictions. Life is going on here, but you’re only allowed to wear approved FFP2 masks, you present a negative test each time you want to sit with a cup of tea at a coffee shop or buy some socks, children are adequately masked and tested and schools are relatively safe, teachers and supermarket workers were priority group 3 for vaccines.

The UK have done a good job with the initial vaccine rollout but that’s not the only thing needed to resume a relatively normal life. Restrictions and other protective measures go hand in hand, and people need to stop moaning and get on with them, otherwise we won’t get out of this mess.

tiredofthisshit21 · 14/05/2021 20:07

Fuck's sake. I have totally had enough of this shit. I've also totally had enough of holier than though posters claiming that because some people can't ever afford a foreign holiday, the rest of us who can shouldn't be complaining. Bore off. The travel industry have been screwed over by this. All these people who are saying that everyone should wait until next year - there will be no airlines left. They will all have gone bust. Totally and utterly sick of this never ending state of barely existing.

Oblomov21 · 14/05/2021 20:18

Not helped by the fact that May 21 has been coldest for 20 years. Only 12 degrees.

Normally we are in our Dorset caravan at the end of May bank holiday where it's so boiling we have to sit in the shade.

The icecaps got screwed over by the travel industry. What goes around...
AnguaResurgam · 14/05/2021 20:22

Yes, Boris is desperate to open up for holidays because he wants to get airlines/holiday sector moving at least a bit.

That they're putting the brakes back on is a sign of how worried he (arch capitalist) is right now.
