Limited travel list for the foreseeable future

Butterflyfluff · 14/05/2021 19:13

So Boris has said that the number of places we can travel to is likely to remain extremely limited for the foreseeable future

It was very all depressing

The government clearly don’t want us to travel and this gives them the perfect excuse to keep the options of places to go extremely limited

It wouldn’t even surprise me if travel was banned altogether again

Not sure how much more of this we can all tolerate ☹️

Im not stepping down either, sick of all the 'i cant live without my holiday abroad' people, despite a global fucking pandemic.

Thewiseoneincognito · 14/05/2021 23:49

@Ylvamoon

A holiday abroad, why cant people wait

Mine has been postponed TWICE ! It's a once in a lifetime trip and was for a special occasion.
By the time we are actually going, it will be either to expensive or more likely the travel company is gone bust.

So yep, we really can't wait for our holiday, and ideally it should have gone ahead this year. And I can't wait to go!!!

Tourism is big business, and I am not sure if many tour operators will survive an other year without any decent income.

You’re right, so many operators will end up going bankrupt once it becomes crystal clear that Covid isn’t going away any time soon. International travel as it used to be isn’t coming back for a good while which will be utterly devastating for many people who live to travel and have their livelihoods dependent on that sector.

Notices like the Onthebeach.com has posted on their website about not taking bookings for the summer will become more common place. It’s a shit show that’s for sure.

Haenow · 14/05/2021 23:50

For the record, I have not been on holiday (even in the UK) since 2019 and I have no immediate plans. I’m not yet comfortable with that, although I very much understand why many people are comfortable with that and respect their choice and freedom to choose for themselves. However, the logic from some on here is baffling. If I lived in Bolton, I could visit a place in this country with exceptionally low Covid case numbers to stay in a hotel, mooch about the shops and eat in restaurants (from Monday). That risks taking the variant to other parts of the country. Or if I lived in London, from Monday, I could travel to Bolton for a day out, perhaps to visit a friend in their home, using public transport. However, if I went on holiday to a country with lower cases numbers and a higher % of the population to visit my elderly parents, that is automatically selfish.

Coldwine75 · 14/05/2021 23:50

@RuleWithAWoodenFoot

You're far less likely to bring back a new variant from Chantelle's beauty salon though

Not necessarily. If you go on a trip via channel tunnel, stay in your car, drive to northern Spain, have a nice self catering holiday, abiding by SD and other covid guidance, like you would at home... that's just not dangerous.

yeah but bet that's the minority !
RoseRedRoseBlue · 14/05/2021 23:50

@Coldwine75 your last statement is exactly the sort of thing that winds people up.

It must be incredibly distressing for people who’ve not seen their close family for many, many months. I have family abroad and it’s hard but I can’t imagine how I’d have coped it they’d been closer family members such as; my parents or grandchildren.
Wheresmybiscuit3 · 14/05/2021 23:52

@tiredofthisshit21

Nope, not stepping away. Am sick of the holier than thou attitude. Am sick of the ' holiday in the UK' brigade. They can all fuck off.
I agree.

And we aren’t all in it together.

Coldwine75 · 14/05/2021 23:52

Sorry but i am not the only one who doesnt agree with people holidaying abroad in a pandemic am i? Its only been just over a year, not that long to sacrifice a holiday abroad really...

It’s been 14 months and no confirmation for some people about when they can see their loved ones. Have some compassion.
Coldwine75 · 14/05/2021 23:54

Im talking about holidays, not visiting family abroad that is very different and i totally get that!

StressMagnet · 14/05/2021 23:59

I think that many travel companies will go bust, I think its unavailable.

I holiday in the UK and it's not that I'm happy to do so, I dont have much choice right now.

But yes it does rain here a lot. It's all a bit shit. I thought maybe next year we might travel again but I'm not risking putting any cash in the travel industry. How can they possibly all weather this?

JassyRadlett · 15/05/2021 00:00

Have a thought for those of us with our families in countries unlikely to open their borders for another year at least.

And the mismanagement of the Indian variant here has the potential to put that even further from our reach.

Lucidas · 15/05/2021 00:03

I don’t know why travel companies going bust is more painful than the suffering of the large events industries, music and entertainment, nightclubs etc... anything whose reopening could now be compromised

Wheresmybiscuit3 · 15/05/2021 00:12

I don’t drink so I don’t really visit the pub.
I can take or leave eating out.
I don’t do beauty salons.
Last year we went to Wales for our holiday and yes it was okay, beautiful in parts but cold and wet in others. We were grateful we could. It was very busy towards the end (beginning august).

You can take a U.K. break but if everyone in the U.K. is taking a U.K. break then there really isn’t going to be much space.

I miss the freedom to travel spontaneously tremendously. That includes the U.K. it’s not fun when it’s rammed, fully booked and there’s very little to choose from.

Wheresmybiscuit3 · 15/05/2021 00:20

It feels like life has been paused. This ‘new’ normal is a facade. It’s hollow. Forced joviality. And it could be snatched away again at any minute.

Life has been paused except for work. Working in health I've worked throughout. I am incredibly tired, and incredibly tired of pretending.

OP so many feel the same but it’s imperative to find the good in the bad. Acceptance will truly make this easier to cope with. It’s hard for everyone but there really is no other option right now. 🕊

Me too. It's utterly shit. Me and my husband were saying tonight that we can't remember the last time we were happy. Not ecstatic, just content. The joy has been sucked out of life.
Whoarethewho · 15/05/2021 00:31

People on their own free choice decided to live abroad. Their decision their consequences. Sorry but a global pandemic will obviously stop international travel and is a cost that should have been factored in before moving.

RoseRedRoseBlue · 15/05/2021 00:34

@tiredofthisshit21 it’s the lack of spontaneity I find hard to manage.

For goodness sake. That’s right. They should’ve looked in their crystal balls and preplanned for it Confused

You realise that most of these coutires won't let us in? It's not all Boris, as despicable as he is.
Wheresmybiscuit3 · 15/05/2021 01:10

It kind of is Boris as well though isn’t it? Instead of just saying no travel he got everyone’s hopes up... and then put places on the green list that he knows won’t let us in.

Anything so that he doesn’t have to be the bad guy. Typical people pleaser. Not really what you want running the country.

SunshiningBetty · 15/05/2021 02:09

How can anyone look at the tragic scenes in India on the news and the next minute book a holiday. People should be ashamed of themselves. I honestly despair of the human race. If not having a holiday abroad this year is truly your breaking point then you should be thanking fuck for how well your life has done over the pandemic. Jesus wept

Mintjulia · 15/05/2021 02:45

Oh well, after 8 months unemployed I was looking forward to a holiday but I guess I'll just build up the savings instead. Try to be philosophical. Confused

Long weekend in Barnstaple.

everythingbackbutyou · 15/05/2021 03:05

@Whoarethewho, yes, that was front and centre on my list of concerns 17 YEARS AGO before I moved thousands of miles away (which, incidentally, I continue to regret less and less with each passing day).
