2nd AZ Vaccine or start again?

145 replies

user77hjjy · 14/05/2021 02:51

I'm due to have my 2nd dose later on today.

I'm 24.

I don't know whether I should start again with a different vaccine.

I don't understand why you are asking this here.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 16/05/2021 22:11

Where did I say I had underlying issues?

I refer you back to YOUR comment at 05.58 yesterday morning that said could be to do with my under lying illnesses

Spanglebangle · 16/05/2021 22:23

I'm 34 I had my first dose in march just before they started taking about blood clots. Had my second dose a couple of weeks ago. I debated and researched for ages before deciyto have the second dose.

Now I am fully vaxxed up and feel much safer/a bit smug about it!

Notthemessiah · 16/05/2021 22:38

@nukeitfromorbit

All the reactions happened after the first dose of AZ so if you were fine after first you will be fine with the second. I understand why you were worried its natural with the negative effects being very much in the news for you to be concerned even if the evidence doesn't really support it. I'm not going to pretend that side effects never happen but they really are very rare. I hope whatever happened today you feel reassured and will be protected soon.
Unfortunately that isn't true. There have been cases of blood clotting after the second dose and it currently looks to be running at about 1 in million - not very high at all, but still not zero as claimed here.

Apologies for the Daily Mail link but it was the first one I could find. Figures are from the MHRA though:

Gobbldegook · 16/05/2021 22:38

I had the AZ and then all the clotting stuff came out. I have a clotting issue and when I went for my second jab in a big centre they weren’t keen to give me the second dose. They looked up the guidelines. It said only if the benefits outweigh the risks. I walked away. They advised me to talk to my GP and get Pfizer. She agreed and I had it on Thursday. I’m done. No starting again. In fact, two medics said it’s looking like the trial is showing mixing is better

caringcarer · 16/05/2021 22:43

Being on the pill has a higher risk of a blood clot than having AZ jab. One could save your life.

RoseWineTime · 16/05/2021 22:46

I’m in the Com-COV mixing trial and it’s interesting to hear that mixing is looking better as that hadn’t been announced yet. They have indicated that the side effects seem worse from mixing but not much worse, so I was surprised to read about that upthread. The 12 week booster cohort had their second dose today (mine was after 4 weeks), so hopefully we should get initial efficacy results next month.

lalafafa · 16/05/2021 23:52

@titchy

There has been mixing of the vaccines for a while. If someone had Pfizer for their 1st jab then became housebound, surprisingly quite a few, they were then given the AZ. You can't transport Pfizer around in a car all day.

Only as part of a trial.

It’s not a trial, it’s ongoing, it’s normal procedure.
Torvean · 17/05/2021 00:03

6 ppl out of 6million getting a clot is nothing to get ppl all anxious again.

You say you have a case manager but no underlying health issues. That's a bit unusual.

You might be able to get a 2nd vaccine of a different type but you won't be able to get another 2 of a different vaccine.
Plus ppl on mixed vaccine studies are expressing more side effects. So maybe AZ is your best bet. Getting the vaccine done at 24 are you I'm one if the areas with the Indian Variant?

user77hjjy · 17/05/2021 00:19

@Aalvarino

All a bit pointless, this. Op, good luck whatever you decide. And to all those with no issues or vulnerabilities... Just pull your heads out of your arses and get vaccinated for yours and the greater good. That's it. And unless you are being enrolled in a trial OP or are outside the UK... There is no chance of 'starting again' currently. So roll up your sleeve eh??
Not according to the professionals. Thanks.

I think you need to reread my question.

Pp asked what underlying issues I had.

I don't have issues and haven't said so.

If you had any side effects with your first dose did you find they lessened after your second?

This is very positive.

I suspect pp will say you're lying

Sir John Bell (Oxford) said the opposite. That mixing makes people too sick:

“Our experience to date is that it produces pretty severe reactogenicity, so severe that we don't think that's going to be viable and by that I mean, you get your second dose if you flip it over, you'll get really sick, so I would not advise that,” he said.

Op I am confused

Backofbeyond50 · 17/05/2021 00:37

Or was one of those in response to someone else underlying condition?

A pp said, "what are your underlying issues?" I didn't understand the question so asked, "My what?"

A different pp just said, "you said you don't have underlying health issues but have a case manager."
I didn't say that.

OP posts:
Backofbeyond50 · 17/05/2021 00:46

So you didn't say you had a case manager but you do have an underlying condition?

Backofbeyond50 · 17/05/2021 00:46

Soon

user77hjjy · 17/05/2021 00:49

@Backofbeyond50

I have underlying illnesses.

I'm still deciding. Taking a few more days to think it over.

I’ve noticed on MN whenever there is a discussion about AZ, the majority shout ‘just get it’. Then as the age for receiving vaccines decreases, and the decision becomes one for younger people, this mindset changes and more people chip in to say they won’t take AZ.

Just read through the older AZ threads and you will see I’m right.
