@ollyollyoxenfree

Hello everyone Brew

Was just wondering if anyone knows when a hopeful 31 year old in the south-west might be expected to be invited for vaccination?

I keep worrying that I'm going to just miss receiving my text!

I could book at 33 yesterday, which was the day before it changed to my age group on the front page. So worth checking even if it isn't quite on yours yet. I got my official text this morning.
JC17fj74 · 22/05/2021 13:24

Im 32 and booked last night!
Feel so grateful to take what ever is available and I always said I was going to jump at the chance to have one where ever it was as I'm happy to drive to get it.
We have a big Hub 10 minutes away but that wasn't showing up so I've taken a slot at a Pharmacy vaccination site 40 minutes away.
Our second vaccination is at a different site I saw someone say on here it should both be at the same site? Surely they wouldn't ask you if you wanted the second vaccine at the same site when booking if it was not an option?
It didn't tell me what vaccine I would be having when I booked either but I'm assuming it will be Pfizer as per guidelines for under 40s?

WombatChocolate · 22/05/2021 13:44

JCI it's pretty common to have them at 2 sites. By going for that, you have more options and are likely to get a quicker appointment.

Once you've had the first, you can go into 'manage appointments' and could find you can get the 2nd closer or at same location as first.

Quite simply, because 2 jabs are needed and because until now, most clinics have only had 1 type of jab each time, finding clinics that match up for the 12 week gap is tricky, but much easier if 2 locations can be used.

Most people play around with the different options before booking. It does ask if you want same site, when sometimes it's not available. People can then either check later and book or try for different sites.

You are right at start of booking for 32s so demand will be high and peoole will need to travel. It's great that you have booked so get it ASAP and not worried too much about the bit of a journey. Wherever possible, that's what people should do to get the protection for themselves faster, to get us all closer to herd immunity sooner and to keep the rollout moving.

It will be Pfizer in all liklihood, but pharmacies do have some moderna as well now which has similar storage requirements, which have recently become a bit less stringent.

Pharmacies are really getting back in the game again now. With increased supply and desire to do LOTS of BOTH first and 2nd jabs, while many GPs are no longer delivering 1st jabs, big sites and pharmacies are key to the rollout.

How far off is in terms of time is your jab?

BigGreen · 22/05/2021 13:45

It's so exciting to see the age numbers come down so quickly. Previous threads suggest that assumption is right @JC17fj74. I think I only saw one person offered AZ, and they had booked before the under 40s announcement. I was booked directly for Moderna.

JC17fj74 · 22/05/2021 15:07

Thanks Wombat Chocolate 😊
My appointment is a week today! I was so happy 😁
Ah that makes sense about once you've had your first you can go back in and manage my appointments as it doesn't have that option yet before I've gone for my first.

springhasalmostsprung · 22/05/2021 16:02

When you go in to 'manage appointments' can you see what is available to swap to before you cancel your second one?

Tinks177 · 22/05/2021 16:16

@springhasalmostsprung

It doesn't seem so, I had to cancel mine to be able to see what else was available. Not sure if it's different if you call them though.
springhasalmostsprung · 22/05/2021 16:40

It's very annoying. You might end up worse off if you cancel!

nordica · 22/05/2021 17:03

I changed the time/date of my 2nd one to make it more convenient and I think as long as you do it quickly (as in cancel, then immediately go to rebook seconds later) the worst that can happen is you get your previous appointment again if there's nothing better available. Maybe try at a quieter time of the day and not when they've just opened up to a new age group and chances are no one else will be looking to book in July/August just as you are changing yours.

carlywurly · 22/05/2021 17:07

@springhasalmostsprung yes I was worried I'd end up worse off for cancelling and rebooking. Thing was, it was booked for the day before a long drive (which couldn't easily be moved) so I weighed it all up and decided I was more concerned about being unwell for that than pushing it back.

As it happened, there was an awful lot more availability this time round. When I booked originally, there wasn't, which is why I ended up with a far from ideal date. My original booking was for 2 different centres, the second one a 45 min drive from home rather than the 10 min walk from work I now have.

springhasalmostsprung · 22/05/2021 17:21

@carlywurly my second is 50 minutes from home so I would love to get a slightly closer one! Xx

springhasalmostsprung · 22/05/2021 17:21

Automatic kisses there sorry! Blush

carlywurly · 22/05/2021 17:41

😬 easily done everywhere but on here!

"...Text message invitations are being sent out to 33-year-olds on Saturday and to 32-year-olds on Monday. They will appear as a message from "NHSvaccine", and people who cannot go online can call 119 to book a jab..."

Given the speed with which age groups are being contacted, I wouldn't be surprised if the 30 to 31 age group is called up from mid week, this coming week. Good luck @ollyollyoxenfree.

amicissimma · 22/05/2021 20:44

There's a list of vaccination sites here. If you click where it says 'Vaccination sites as of 21 May 2021' in blue you can download a map or list of sites.

On the list you can click on the top of the columns to get your area, but I can't make the map tell me where each circle actually is.

It's not exhaustive - neither the one I'm currently volunteering at, nor the one I had my jabs at are on it - but it gives you an idea of the distribution.

vera99 · 22/05/2021 21:01

I'm 60 and will soon get my second jab but hugely encouraged by all this youngster's enthusiasm to get pricked. It's our collective way out and in the Uk we seem to have got the message it's safe and effective. Good luck all with your bookings .... GlitterballGlitterballGlitterballGlitterballGlitterball

Dutchesss · 22/05/2021 21:31

Does anyone know if you can cancel and rebook just the second jab or will it cancel both if I click the cancel button?

springhasalmostsprung · 22/05/2021 22:04

It will cancel both if you hit cancel.

Wait until after your first to cancel and rebook book your second 👍🏻

Dutchesss · 22/05/2021 23:01

Thank you Smile

ShrinkingViolet9 · 23/05/2021 13:18

Thought I'd mention that when my DS was able to book both his first and second vaccinations on Friday, he requested confirmation by email (you can also select to receive confirmation via text message if you prefer). Confirmation by email or text is optional and you are not expected to bring either to the appointments - just your NHS number and one of your booking reference numbers.)

The email confirmation has taken 48 hours to come through, although he was able to view his booking in the "Manage my bookings" pages on Friday afternoon. So if anyone has requested an email confirmation, don't be surprised if it takes a couple of days to be issued.

Porridgeislife · 23/05/2021 16:00

I had my vaccination at Islington Business Design Centre today. It was super efficient - around 40 minutes in total. They do both Moderna and AZ. When I was checked in I was automatically given a little blue card saying Moderna which I had to give to the next steward who sent me in the direction of the Moderna jabs.

I didn’t get a confirmation email but did save my booking reference number. They wanted that, and my NHS number, to check in so make sure you are ready with those. Everyone was super lovely & nice, and it was so well organised.

WombatChocolate · 23/05/2021 16:22

My DH was due to have his 2nd jab in 4 weeks time. It was very local. However, today he went into the site and cancelled so he can re-book for closer in time to now. He has got an appt for Weds, which is about a 45 min drive away. That’s fine. All the advice is to get the 2nd jab sooner now, so he is very prepared to do what will effectively be a 2 hour round trip to get there, back and have the jab.

He will have increased protection against the new variants. It seems very worthwhile putting himself out for the longer journey in order to get that, rather than sticking with the original appointment which would be in 4 weeks and was just a 5 minute journey each way. In normal times we would travel 45 mins to meet friends or to go to a special event, so doing it for the jab seems a no-brainier really.

Tinks177 · 23/05/2021 17:18

I had my vaccine this afternoon and couldn't fault the staff and volunteers at all. Although I was confident in my decision to get vaccinated whilst pregnant I was apprehensive after reading a few pregnant ladies have had problems getting them to actually do it. The setup was amazing, they all put me at ease. They even had a lovely health visitor there who took me to a separate area to do my 15 mins after my vaccine - with a bed for me to lay down! Absolutely fantastic and such a relief to finally have it done!

DixonD · 23/05/2021 22:16

I had my first vaccine today and booked it over a week ago - still no email! I called them yesterday and it’s a big issue at the moment. I doubt I’ll ever receive it 😁.

I didn’t need my reference numbers. I had Pfizer- they had two lines, one for AZ for one for Pfizer. So well run; I was very impressed.

So happy to finally have it done but my arm really hurts!

Nbahen · 23/05/2021 22:43

I didn't get a confirmation email/text either despite selecting both. Luckily I screenshot the ref number and in the end I didn't need it anyway. Slightly concerned when I go into manage my appointment my second jab isn't there and it says I need to book my first one, which I had yesterday but I'm guessing there system may be slightly delayed/overwhelmed at the moment. I'm going to give it a few days to see if it all catches up / updates.
