@NuttyinNotts

Is there any data anywhere about how different local areas are organising their vaccine roll out? I'm thinking about GP led vs. centrally organised. It would be interesting to compare vaccination rates between the two different systems. Anecdotally I've been seeing GP led areas calling lots of people early and flying down through the ages and seeing the opposite with areas using a centrally organised system.
agree this would be useful to know. In my borough (greater manchester) as far as I can tell there are no vaccine centres at all, there were plenty of gp-led hubs but they've collectively said they are stopping after the second doses for the 50+. So we all have to go to the Etihad/into Cheshire/another GM borough. I know a least one person who ended up going to Leeds!

That's ok for us as we work flexibly and have a car but public transport round here is pretty woeful and I can totally see how this would be really problematic for a lot of people.

JanFebAnyMonth · 19/05/2021 10:43

Yesterday’s Nuneaton surge announcement called for all aged 2+ to be tested....
Decided by local PH presumably?

MRex · 19/05/2021 10:56

@Frazzled2207 - have all of them closed then? Loads more on the map but it is from 23rd April, so should really remove the GP sites if they're closed. www.england.nhs.uk/coronavirus/publication/vaccination-sites/

There look to be other non-GP options too though from a quick look; Manchester - secure.manchester.gov.uk/info/500362/covid-19/8079/covid-19_vaccination_programme/3, Oldham - tfgm.com/coronavirus/vaccination-sites/oldham, Wigan: healthierwigan.nhs.uk/covid-19-vaccination-centres/, Bolton: healthierwigan.nhs.uk/covid-19-vaccination-centres/...

MRex · 19/05/2021 10:59

Sorry, posted too soon.

@NuttyinNotts - the key in the map is bottom right; Orange are pharmacies, Green are vaccine centres, Blue are hospitals, purple are GP (PCN). Might give an idea of type of approach, though as I mentioned it won't reflect changes in strategy nor other local issues.

EducatingArti · 19/05/2021 11:38

Our gp led sites are in sports and leisure centres here in Salford. I don't think they have closed ( except sometimes on a temporary basis when they have achieved vaccination of all eligible ages that have come forward and the government won't let them push ahead to younger ages ahead of schedule.

Frazzled2207 · 19/05/2021 11:45

@MRex
Perhaps not closed but not doing under 50s so finishing up with second doses for 50+

I am 43 so lots of my friends have been called recently, everyone has been out of borough to get one, all to places which afaik are pretty inaccessible by public transport

Local GPs have said they can’t carry on vaccinating and offering their usual services. Don’t blame them tbh. But surprised that we’re literally all being sent out of borough

ajmouse · 19/05/2021 12:22

Today's ZOE prediction is 35619, up by 1080. Daily cases 2749, down by 46.

This is a bit of a sigh of relief after it shot up by over 500 yesterday!

Historically it's been a good predictor, but given the model has changed a couple of times since vaccinations started I am starting to wonder how much to bother following it. It gave me massive anxiety yesterday.

YoshimisMum · 19/05/2021 15:22

Reading this morning concerning reports about B1617.2 in new areas

Daily Express - surging/swathes of infection
Metro - surging
Telegraph - hotspots

My borough - Oadby & Wigston, Leicestershire is apparently a new hotspot with surging cases of B1717.2 representing 75% of cases.

What! I thought we have been doing so well recently after a rough 14 months alongside Leicester.

Digging deeper I’ve now decided (for the moment, here at least) this is very positive news for such a virulent strain!

The sequencing reports are up to the 8th May and considering the length of time from sample to sequence testing I would think these would be from tests carried out around the end of April.

Screenshot shows current cases, ranked at 124 - it’s not exactly ripping through here in the last 19 days!

If I had the time it would be interesting to extrapolate the information for the other ‘new hotspots’ to see if there is any surge in overall reported cases

B1617.2

boys3 · 19/05/2021 16:05

@YoshimisMum the sequencing reports are publicly updated each Monday. The most recent 7 day period included went up to 8th May with numbers for that week reflecting cases with a specimen date in that week.

As you might expect from a series of long running threads with data as its leading word, the Sanger numbers for B1.617.2 were posted for each of the six weeks up to and including 8th May up thread.

Oadby and Wigston had 1 case picked up through general surveillance from w/e 1st May, and 2 from w/e 8th May. Further data is likely to be added for w/e 8th, however the full Sanger download file shows 2 cases overall, both b1.617.2; whilst in the week prior again 2 cases in total genome tested of which 1 was B1.617.2 and the other B1.1.7 (Kent). Going back another week 4 cases surveilled with all being B1.1.7

Worth rembering that the Sanger surveillance excludes both surge testing and cases picked up from known travel.

2696 cases, 3 deaths

ajmouse · 19/05/2021 16:10

Official stats today 2696 positive, 3 deaths

Last Weds was 2284, so it's a bit high for a Wednesday.

ILookAtTheFloor · 19/05/2021 16:11

This is total anecdata but a local school have been told that the 4 cases identified in early May were Indian varient. 2 in one year, 2 in another.

Well, by the time the news came through about what varient it was, both year groups had completed their isolation and returned.

No other cases so far. All children are being PCR tested on site now so let's see.

boys3 · 19/05/2021 16:14

@sirfredfredgeorge have you got a hotline to the dashboard?Smile. A further 561 LFDs removed today with it would appear more to follow over the next few days.

OP posts:
MRex · 19/05/2021 16:14

So it's higher than last Wednesday (2284), but the actual specimen date totals look ok, I'm not sure what to make of that exactly. Could be the removal of 561 extra LFDs making numbers look lower.

Piggywaspushed · 19/05/2021 16:20

DS's school has had at least 10 cases (all confirmed) , many of which are Indian Variant. No whole school testing. Don't understand why.

Indeed piggy. 75 cases showing for Bedford for Monday 17th after the previous 5 days looking like things might be taking a turn for the better.

Upward again in Bolton and Blackburn.

Bradford and Kirklees also showing jump in numbers on Monday, 55 and 79 respectively.

wintertravel1980 · 19/05/2021 16:48

81.1% of adult population have received their first vaccine dose in Wales. It is just incredible.

They ignored the JCVI guidelines and started offering Pfizer to younger people before England, Scotland or NI (which was the very smart thing to do). They also offered more AZ to 30+. Looks like this strategy might now be paying off - the prevalence remains very low.

Piggywaspushed · 19/05/2021 17:02

They are really dragging their heels in Bedford. Or so it feels. The portfolio holder for public health was pretty clear on the TV yesterday that she felt it was because all the focus is on the NW.

sirfredfredgeorge · 19/05/2021 17:11

1800 of 2100 cases in England with specimen dates of today or yesterday, that seems higher than recent - is there new surge testing that started yesterday, or something changed with postal test delivery or anything?

boys3 · 19/05/2021 17:11

Can anyone see when the 561 removals were taken from? I can get to 261 based on previous daily files, but that still leaves 300 unaccounted for.

Is it theoretically possible that people registered LFD, took PCR and got the result same day? So they're removed, but from the numbers we haven't seen until the time of removal.

Or it'll be September last year, or something equally daft.

boys3 · 19/05/2021 17:33

@sirfredfredgeorge it that more the hot and getting a bit warm spots? At least in part. Of those 1800 or so

Bolton 157

Kirklees 87

Blackburn 67

Leeds 58

Bedford 51

Bradford 51

Manchester 48

Birmingham 41

Wakefield 32

Newcastle 31

So those 10 almost 35%

7 councils added between 20 and 29

And the next 7, all 17 to 19, take us past 50%

That’s 50% from just 24 councils.

88 councils account for 80% of cases.

On the flip side

58 councils 0 cases for those 2 days, so far of course

61 councils 1 case

55 councils 2 cases

174 councils in the 0 to 2 groups

Am a long time lurker and if you don't mind too much I just wanted to slightly derail to ask a question (will obviously ask my hospital!) I don't want the hysteria of asking this on the main board !

Would you have the second dose of the AZ 3 days before an op under GA? This would be at 11 weeks. I'm tempted to push it back by 3 weeks , as I think it will make me anxious. But also aware the second dose seems important with the new variant and I have secondary dc.
