What do we all think about 21st June date?

As it comes closer, my excitement for this date of lifted restrictions has started to turn into a big question mark - how can we go from the rule of six no no restrictions on meeting?
Is it realistic? I know no one can know, but what do people think? I have so many lovely dates pencilled into my calendar including children's birthdays and family weddings - will any of my pals have their big white July wedding?!

Considering covid has now dropped even further down the list of things you might die from, and so many people have now been vaccinated, I'm thoroughly nonplussed by the idea that some posters on this thread are still living like it's first lockdown Confused

I'm so glad that many people are actually back out there putting money back into businesses and people's livelihoods. My son's small business has been one of the worst hit by this, and his mental health was through the floor panicking and struggling to support his partner and baby. For people like my son, that was a bugger worry than covid ever could be.

@TeeBee

I just want to stay in. I preferred lockdown. Sick of people asking me to do things and whether they can come over.
Just say no. I'm sure they'll get over it.

Summer solstice :)

Personally I'd be concerned why one country in the UK is dropping everything and the others are not.

year5teacher · 09/05/2021 08:38

I imagine it will happen and I desperately hope it’s for good. I’m not nervous about it but I can imagine if you’ve been able to SD or work from home it’s daunting. I have family who have wfh the whole time and are still disinfecting their letter box, so I know they are scared whereas I’m not bothered at all.

Can’t wait for people to blame everyone for not hiding away in their homes all summer, though - nice to see it’s already starting on this thread!

That sounds like you have an issue with expressing yourself not covid. Why can't you tell them you don't want to?
TheKeatingFive · 09/05/2021 09:04

If people want to stay in there’s absolutely nothing stopping them from doing so.

I’m delighted for all the businesses finally getting to open again.

Daisydoor12 · 09/05/2021 09:05

Life is not that far from normal where I am now. Come 17th May it’ll get even more closer to normal. Then we’ll have to see wouldn’t surprise me if a variant of concern prevents the final push for freedom, it’s already bubbling in the background.

BlowDryRat · 09/05/2021 09:06

It can't come soon enough.

Littlefluffyclouds13 · 09/05/2021 09:09

@RaisinsRuinEverything

Yes please! I’m being “good” and avoiding non-essential shopping and eating out in May/early June in the hope that things can return to normal on 21st June. These places are staffed mainly by younger unvaccinated people. Plus it’s a pain with queues, no fittings rooms, sanitizer, one way systems, masks ... If enough people do the same it should make a difference shouldn’t it? I can’t be the only one?
You're really not being good. What you've posted is utter nonsense Hmm
Gymsmile21 · 09/05/2021 09:12

I can’t wait!!

I’m secretly wishing for a street party with bunting like the old days but don’t think it will happen

TeeBee · 09/05/2021 09:27

Oh, I'm saying no, doesn't stop them continually asking when they can come over/come and stay/meet for drinks and get back to 'normal'. I'm actually considering moving to get some bloody peace.

RaisinsRuinEverything · 09/05/2021 09:42

21st June is only 43 days away. I’ve managed without things for the best part of a year. Just because you can do things doesn’t mean you have to. I prefer to wait.

Of course you don't have to. But some people are shaming those that are doing them. That's not on.

I can't wait and I really hope it happens. I'll be the first one back at a concert and festival.

Schmetterling1 · 09/05/2021 09:48

Gosh the ‘freedom day’ people (bunting? Jesus Christ) come across as really thick.

RaisinsRuinEverything · 09/05/2021 09:59

Sorry if I didn’t express myself well. I’m not shaming anyone. Everyone is free to do as they please. And it’s a valid point about supporting small businesses. I buy in shops as infrequently as possible (so larger amounts), buy online or click and collect. I want to go inside cafes, pubs etc not sit freezing outside or swatting away the flies. I just want normal again as much as the next person!

Wellbythebloodyhell · 09/05/2021 10:05

@RaisinsRuinEverything it was your " I'm being good" phrase that made your post come across patronising. It assumes those doing things that were now allowed to do are somehow bad people Confused

TheVampiresWife · 09/05/2021 10:35

There are still around 2000 new cases announced on the news every day

But these numbers aren't translating to hospitalisations and deaths.

The daily number of cases ceases to be terribly relevant when vaccinations mean that people are far, far less likely to become seriously ill.

Wait for what, though?

Cases are low, deaths are low, we have vaccines. This is pretty much as good as it gets.

Mrgrinch · 09/05/2021 10:38

I can't wait. I've planned a party.

But you can shop for what you please now and eat outdoors if you want to - why would you make it difficult for yourself and keep avoiding everything?

There’s no one- way systems anymore. Hasn’t been for a long time.

Why do you expect us all to do what you’re doing?!?!

Really??? Where are you going that there is no one way systems?? Genuine question?
Yesterday I went to next, matalan dunelm and Sainsbury’s, (the security guard there was standing at the front of the queue bellowing that we shouldn’t be shopping together and that we should follow the one way system) and they all had one way systems? I think they are unnecessary but they are definitely there.

BogRollBOGOF · 09/05/2021 11:48

A lot of businesses and services need the social distancing and other measures to be dropped in order to survive or thrive.

I have friends who run a micropub that have not been able to open in the past 14m. The pub is too small to open with dustancing, you could have 2, maybe 3 tables indoors, one in the yard, busy road junction at the front. Normally it's a very successful model but totally incompatible with "Covid Secure" measures.

I've been chatting to park rangers this morning. They can't open things like the paddling pool/ water play areas until June 21st. While that seems illogical in the face of play areas/ swimming pools being open, it's naturally something that crowds on a busy day, more so than a play area, so the council are playing cautiously on it. They want normality of their roles back without the Covidy complications.

x2boys · 09/05/2021 11:56

I'm fully vaccinated,so I was feeling positive, just had a leaflet through the door saying we are an area of concern, sodding Bolton again🙄,just hope this doesn't translate into higher hospital admissions.
