It look like. It’s finally the end of this and everyone will be getting back to normal.

@CarrieAntoinette you like your doom and gloom, last year we never had vaccines
What do actually propose you are on several threads but when asked what you want implemented you avoid?

Tealightsandd · 06/05/2021 22:40

You could well be right @CarrieAntoinette
Especially since we don't know how effective AZ is against the UK, South African, and Indian strains? (Or do we?).

worriedatthemoment · 06/05/2021 22:41

@CarrieAntoinette you do realise without an economy people will also die, how do you propose we pay for the nhs , furlough etc
How much longer do you think we should be locked down for as if you think its happening no matter what then it doesn't matter when we open if its only a matter of time

I'm only here once or twice a week, but while I have the page open I am a very attentive replier - ask anybody.

worriedatthemoment · 06/05/2021 22:41

@Tealightsandd we do with the uk version

Autumn boosters would suggest that someone thinks something needs boosting...
worriedatthemoment · 06/05/2021 22:43

@CarrieAntoinette what like on the school post you have created yet fail to answer both mine and several posters questions

Tealightsandd · 06/05/2021 22:44

@worriedatthemoment
London has had a lower vaccine take up. Some people will say that's their choice but it won't just affect the those who refused. It means the millions of vulnerable in London are at increased risk.

London is the frontline for new strains. Heathrow airport wide open pretty much. No real quarantine, and passengers head straight from the airport onto the busy public transport...

worriedatthemoment · 06/05/2021 22:44

@CarrieAntoinette you just find a negative in everything , if boosters are needed and they are being prepared why is that not a good thing ?

worriedatthemoment · 06/05/2021 22:46

@Tealightsandd well we can't force people to take a vaccine and tbf there have been good canpaigns to try and increase
Heathrow is also not the only airport some of the others are also quite busy
Whats the alternative ?
This is likely with us for years

When are all the poor cancer patients going to get their lifesaving operations if we just keep the covid ICU patients coming? People don't just die of covid you know.

Tealightsandd · 06/05/2021 22:47

Is that for AZ too? I saw something today about Pfizer. I've been busy the past couple of days so might've missed something. Hopefully the boosters will help. People can get tweaked vaccines to protect against the UK, South African, and Indian strains.

It is a good thing.

But it demonstrates that we're not out of the woods yet. And still at risk of another completely preventable wave.

Like the last two completely preventable waves.

worriedatthemoment · 06/05/2021 22:50

@CarrieAntoinette how is it preventable ? Unless you mean continue to lockdown for many months , lockdown is not attainable for years you know

TheKeatingFive · 06/05/2021 22:50

Some people quite clearly don’t want this to end. They’re loving the drama.

PickAChew · 06/05/2021 22:51

@123rd

I really hope it is...but I don't understand why so many OUTDOOR events that were due to take place have now been cancelled. Just yesterday in the local press 2 big events (1 sport 1 music ) towards the end of summer have already been pulled.
Insurance. No one will provide it in case things do suddenly take a turn. That and the need to pay contractors up front because they can't weather cancellation, either.

My preference (a minority one in the UK) is border control with real quarantine until majority are fully vaccinated. There will always be a small group of vaccine refusers but that wouldn't matter too much once everyone else is done properly. Vaccines seem to be pretty good at preventing transmission so far.

The government knows our issue is the borders but they want to blame the public. They're urging people not to go on holiday abroad but allowing it. They know if it's legal (or even not, in some cases) people will do it.

worriedatthemoment · 06/05/2021 22:53

@CarrieAntoinette my bf is having her cancer treatment so I am fully aware of this, she has also been vaccinated and actually as hers ,is incurable she actually wants to start being able to go out and visit people and live the life she has left.
ICU are not full and we have a much better monitoring of cases now as well as vaccinations which will bring hospitalisations down as well so we can shut down again if cases / hospitalisation rises

vera99 · 06/05/2021 22:54

One hopes so but Chile /Seychelles gives some pause for thought.

I guess that might be one reason for vaccine hesitancy, mask refusal, and failure to adhere to mitigation measures. It would explain a lot. It's a shame for those of us who want to get back to normal asap.
worriedatthemoment · 06/05/2021 22:55

@Tealightsandd I do agree that holidays should be stopped but I think the economy dictates otherwise , ai think the whole world should have closed borders until all countries can start to get under control but I know that will never happen

CarrieAntoinette · 06/05/2021 22:56
@CarrieAntoinette how is it preventable ? Unless you mean continue to lockdown for many months , lockdown is not attainable for years you know
Isn't that a little bit of a negative attitude?

Plenty of other countries seem to have prevented the 150,000 deaths, economic bonfire and 10 months out of 12 in restrictions that we've had.

Our government didn't plan to avoid it the same as they don't plan to avoid the next one. Just "mitigate it" like the last two.

@vera99 can't see your link as have to subscribe what does it say ?

worriedatthemoment · 06/05/2021 22:57

@CarrieAntoinette Your the one who is negative and yet again you fail to say what you want them to do
Have a look at worldometer and you will see lots of countries have suffered and very few haven't , some have fared better and some have fared worse
