As of Friday 30th April

34.3m first jabs
14.9m second jabs

have been given in the UK. This means that 65% of all adults have some level of protection and 28% are fully vaccinated.

Additionally evidence is currently suggesting that the vaccines are effective against the Brazilian and Indian variants 🥳

I’ve managed to get my second dose move forwards. Now on 5th July which means I’ll have the immunity by the 19th. Grin

I am worried by how fast cases are going up though - I guess all we can do is focus on every jab counting - does anyone know how our Pfizer stocks are lasting as we really need to get lots of under 40s second jabbed by the 19th?

DdraigGoch · 23/06/2021 19:15

Wales has now reached 70% first jabs among the whole population.

buttery81 · 23/06/2021 19:36

At an average of 250K per day, it won’t be many weeks before we run out of first jabees.

If we can do 250K 1st doses per day that means it’ll take us 36 days to give the entire adult population their 1st dose. Which means we’ll hit the target on 29th July!

buttery81 · 23/06/2021 19:37

Is anyone else just stunned that the end is actually in sight (for 1st doses?) It really is phenomenal!

All, and I mean all, of DD1's and DD2's friends, work colleagues, and school mates, in the age bracket 18-25 have now been vaccinated, or are due in the next couple of days. Also all of our friends aged 50+ have had both doses, and some weeks ago.

In our group at least, it seems the stats are way ahead of the government dashboard Grin.

DD1 had to take today off, as she feels distinctly ropey today after her Pfizer Sad. She had Covid though, and I think that makes a difference?

HelloMist · 24/06/2021 13:41

I've been checking for a few weeks but still unable to move my second dose forward. None of the sites nearest me seem to have any earlier appointments. Some further do but I would struggle to get there (not able to drive, public transport would take hours). I've seen walk in ones advertised, so I'm hoping more come up that are Pfizer and after it's been the minimum 8 weeks (not quite there yet).

randomlyLostInWales · 24/06/2021 17:15

BigWoollyJumpers - I can believe that.

We keep getting told via schools and in local papers that the big vaccination sites here are all walk in now for first jabs and anyone 18+ is very welcome to pop in and get vaccinated.

nonono1 · 24/06/2021 17:21

Is it me or are vaccination numbers slowing a bit? We're still at around 370k today, which is great, but didn't the Thursday to Sunday figures used to be more like 500k?

EasterIssland · 24/06/2021 17:22

I think we’re dependant in pfizer / moderna for first

Also 8 weeks ago it was April when 1st dropped hence why the seconds are low

Today's clinic (mostly first Pfizer doses for under 25s)had 90 Did Not Attend. Disappointing, but I hope few of them had attended a walk in already instead and forgot to cancel. Shame as it might mean some wasted doses as everyone we were trying to ring had already had /booked their first dose.

Also vax centres can't do as many Pfizer in each session as AZ because of space /numbers limitations with the required observation period afterwards
HelloMist · 24/06/2021 18:08

Thanks for the suggestions of reasons (why there might be less Pfizer going right now). It's frustrating but helps to know why it might be, will try to be patient!

hello! Would be grateful if anyone knows the answer to this…if you attend a walk in clinic (for Pfizer) but there’s only a 6 week gap since your first dose - will they turn you away? Thanks.

If they have excess supply in the evening then no, if they have a big queue then maybe.
Bordois · 26/06/2021 13:20

One local to us explicitly said if it is your second vaccine, you must be over 8 weeks since your last.... maybe just our centre, or it may be standard.
buttery81 · 28/06/2021 07:28

Only 8.3 million people to go until ALL UK adults have had their 1st jab! Grin

I’ve been watching CovidvaxLive again the past few days - keeping an eye out for when we reach 50% of population (not just adults) fully vaccinated.

That will be another psychologically important line, I think. About another 1.3 million 2nd jabs to go - what, another week?

randomlyLostInWales · 28/06/2021 11:59

Wales is already there - 51.3% of the population having had two vaccines - the area I'm in is one of the higher vaccination areas within Wales.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-55855220

Wales is at most a few weeks ahead - so can't be long before UK as a whole hits 50% of population double vaccinated.

According to the person in charge of the vaccine centre where I have been volunteering lately, what he referred to as an NHS centre can only give doses 8+ weeks apart, but some GP-led centres can go for a shorter gap, even as little as 4, or even 3 weeks apart.

You would be given this information, including when and where the soonest nearby GP-run sessions are, if you turned up at 'my' centre and were turned away, but I don't know how you would find out otherwise. Maybe 119?
