Anyone want a BIG UP AZ thread?

ClingFilmAndGafferTape · 30/04/2021 00:07

There are threads a plenty at the moment about people not wanting the AZ thread so being a kind person I thought it would be good to have a big up AZ thread for those worrying about having it.

Full disclosure - I had AZ this week and the day after wasn't the best. But I'm not going to go on about that here because we've seen it all on other threads. But I'm so happy that day is behind me and I'm on my way to immunity. Anyone else want to contribute to help those that are worried?

Well I will try to help. Aged 46. Had AZ early in March (underlying conditions x2).
Felt like I had flu for 24 hrs, not going to lie about that. But totally fine after.
Husband same age. Had his AZ just before me (via work) and he is fine too. Wasn’t unwell at all.
Lots of my family, colleagues and friends of same age or younger have been fine, too, with AZ. Several of those have had underlying conditions as well.

If you started properly reading the summary of product characteristics for medicines, most have some quite worrying events associated as rare occurrences. We never hear about those though.

I had AZ in March. I'm 53. Slightly achey arm for a few days. Slept really well for a week- which was really nice! Smile

I'll be delighted to get my second dose in June.

CEV Dh had his AZ in January. No side effects at all. Had his second the other week. All good!

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 30/04/2021 00:32

I've had both jabs. I'm still here and very happy to have had it. I am over 50 tbf.

For vaccinators AZ is the best vaccine to do a mass population level programme. The UKs speed and success is due in no small part to getting AZ out there and using it.

It is transportable and can be distributed much more widely and easily than Pfizer. Logistically it is delivers more volume in less space.

Getting to 95% of the high risk groups in a country of this size is down to AZ. And that’s one of the main reasons we are seeing less deaths and a relieved NHS.

We have had lots of supply problems with our vaccine compared to the US who have excess supply. But our roll out is faster, uptake is higher and more consistent. That’s down to using a more adaptable vaccine.

For vaccinators Pfizer is a pain. Moderna less so but the supply is too erratic.

From a PH perspective AZ has delivered on reduced death and hospitalisations. That was the ask. Pfizer can do that but it takes longer and eats up space and manpower. Plus it really does like being moved.

I had my second AZ jab today. No symptoms the first time around. Just a painful injection site. Had a lovely snooze on the sofa tonight but that could just as easily have been the celebratory fizz and stuffing my face with takeaway. Injection site is a bit achy now if I lean on it in bed.
Great stuff! So glad to be fully vaccinated my DH works frontline healthcare so I guess we'll always be exposed to it.

peachgreen · 30/04/2021 00:50

Yes me! And I was one of the very unlucky few who had a bad reaction. Totally fine now, still extremely glad I had it, will be happily going back for my second dose. Am absolutely delighted it's enabled such a swift rollout.

Todayisanabsolutevanilladay · 30/04/2021 01:31

I had my second one today, sorry yesterday now. I do feel a bit achey now hence back up for a cup of tea and a cracker. Arm is ok, just feel a bit discombobulated!

So glad I've had it and so emotional going in seeing the queues of people again. What an incredible achievement for our country! Wonder if Matt Hancock is feeling a bit rubbish tonight after having his today?! All in a good cause though

Realitea · 30/04/2021 07:12

This thread is what I need. I’ve been getting too worked up about the negativity of AZ.
I had mine exactly a week ago and was back to work two days later. I didn’t feel fluey after, just tired but able to carry on as normal

CopperLily · 30/04/2021 07:17

I had no choice but to have AZ because of previous anaphylactic reactions. It had to be given in resus in the hospital so I could be treated immediately if I had a reaction.
I had absolutely no side effects at all and was extremely grateful to have finally been given the vaccination after months of uncertainty.

Arbadacarba · 30/04/2021 07:18

I felt rubbish the next day but was fine the day after and feel a lot less anxious about Covid. Looking forward to my second dose.

Sparklingbrook · 30/04/2021 07:21

I've had my first. Felt horrible the next day but nothing a paracetamol didn't fix. Looking forward to my next one in June and being fully done.

ineedaholidayandwine · 30/04/2021 07:27

My second dose is due within a couple of weeks, can't wait to be fully covered Grin
So grateful to have this available

CarrieBlue · 30/04/2021 07:28

My mum has had her two AZ vaccinations, no side effects with either.

BrokenLink · 30/04/2021 07:29

I have had both doses of AstraZenica vaccine. I feel safe and protected and so grateful. I am happy for my young adult children to have the vaccine when their turn comes. Immunising everyone is the only way out of this pandemic.

Good post

People are whipping up anxiety on here without thinking about the huge benefit we’ve had and will have

I’m happy I’ve had first dose and can see everything moving on

Rillington · 30/04/2021 07:32

I am group 4 immunosuppressed part of the shielding group. I have had both vaccines and had no side effects at all.

Lanique · 30/04/2021 07:33

Had mine a week ago and starting to taste freedom again Smile

Orangebug · 30/04/2021 07:35

Great post from @LemonTT. I agree that the incredibly successful vaccine roll out in this country has been largely a result of the simpler logistics associated with AZ. I had mine a few days ago - no side effects at all (except a sore arm).

CuriousaboutSamphire · 30/04/2021 07:35

@LemonTT Thanks for outlining the basic realities. Many need to hear that, to help counteract all the negative headlines and SM scares!

Mid 50s, underlying conditions, sore arm and a bit blech for a couple of days. Looking forward to 2nd jab in a month or so!

MarshaBradyo · 30/04/2021 07:38

Just hearing Barclays talk about boom he expects.

This is linked to all of us taking AZ and getting out of this more quickly.

cheeseismydownfall · 30/04/2021 07:38

I'm 45 and had my first AZ on Tuesday afternoon. My arm was slightly sore for the rest of the day. I had a bit of a restless night and then felt more tired than usual the following day, BUT I also started my period on Tuesday night (on schedule) and I always feel this way with my period anyway. So impossible to tell for sure but I don't think I had any real symptoms other than the sore arm. Maybe a little bit shivery? Only a little. Definitely completely back to normal now.

Sunbelievable · 30/04/2021 07:40

Had my first and felt fluey, but am already counting the weeks until hopefully I'll get called for my second.

Would love to meet Professor Gilbert

I had AZ on Monday - no problem with getting it. Just glad to get a vaccine. Very few side effects as well - felt a bit flushed 24 hours afterwards and a sore arm. Had worse arm after flu jab. Felt absolutely normal 24 hours later.

Temp023 · 30/04/2021 07:42

They are a fantastic company, so bloody fussy. I did some QA for them once, their standards are very (annoyingly) high!

starfish4 · 30/04/2021 07:44

I've had both doses. After effects really went that bad, first dose I did feel a bit chilly and sick about six hours later, nothing as bad as morning sickness though. Second dose chilly for an hour.

Both times I had a massive sense of relief and an very grateful I unexpectedly qualified early through work for my vaccination. What I didn't realize at time of vaccination was that it reduced my chance of transmission, which meant I'm less risky to my family who I'm closest to, which I felt good about.

Forgot to say, I have five main friends, they've all had there first dose now, and none had side effects.

I've got a 20 year old who would have the AZ today if offered. She says she hopes to travel many times in her lifetime, which is more risky.
