Anyone want a BIG UP AZ thread?

ClingFilmAndGafferTape · 30/04/2021 00:07

There are threads a plenty at the moment about people not wanting the AZ thread so being a kind person I thought it would be good to have a big up AZ thread for those worrying about having it.

Full disclosure - I had AZ this week and the day after wasn't the best. But I'm not going to go on about that here because we've seen it all on other threads. But I'm so happy that day is behind me and I'm on my way to immunity. Anyone else want to contribute to help those that are worried?

I’ve had both AZ jabs too, and I had to have AZ due to a reaction I had to chemo. They were giving Pfizer the day I attended originally and had to give mine separately.

I had a sore arm from the first jab and felt a bit off the next day but a snooze and I was back to normal. Only side effect from the second was a sore lump at the injection site which I also got from my flu jab.

Theimpossiblegirl · 30/04/2021 07:47

I had mine a week ago and have been fine. Slightly tender arm for a couple of days but only to touch.
I'm 45 and pretty healthy, I've just carried on as normal, teaching, running, doing everything I usually do since my vaccine with no effects.

KermitLovesMe · 30/04/2021 07:47

I'm so excited to get mine, hopefully very soon as it's 40 already now Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/04/2021 07:49

I am so pleased to have had my two doses of AZ and with various family members and friends having had a dose, I feel as though I'm getting my life back slowly, that they too are less likely to pass it on, or I pass it on to them.

It is so nice being able to do things like go into a shop and buy myself some chocolate or go to the hairdressers, knowing that I have better protection and that I'm no longer at risk of severe disease.

Bagelsandbrie · 30/04/2021 07:53

I’ve had both and am so grateful. I have chronic complex disabilities and am in the clinically extremely vulnerable group and I did feel awful for a week after the first - second was fine (!) but who cares?! There’s side effects with everything. Even paracetamol. The risk of serious issues is tiny. It’s an amazing vaccine.

Barbadosgirl · 30/04/2021 07:54

This morning they opened up the vaccine to 40 plus and I was straight on it. I am booked in for Sunday and expect it will be AZ which I am more than happy to take. What they have done is fantastic.

Tereseta · 30/04/2021 07:57

I have history of pulmonary embolism and blood clots. Is there a way to find out if I am at any risk? Just about to book my jab and don't want to waste their time.

squashyhat · 30/04/2021 07:58

No problems here. Booked for my second one in a couple of weeks.

NannyElle · 30/04/2021 07:59

I had my first dose end of March, felt very rough and flu like for 36 hours and sore arm for a few days but it passed and was definitely less awful than when I actually had Covid a year before that. Can't wait to get my 2nd dose , feels fab knowing I am mostly protected already.

Bagelsandbrie · 30/04/2021 08:00

Speak to your GP. They may prefer you to have something else.
TheHumanSatsuma · 30/04/2021 08:02

I had AZ first dose end of Feb. 2nd dose in 2 weeks time. I’m 64
Felt rough for 2 days (joint pains, slightly sick, headache) but not unmanageable and no worse than other vaccinations. Will be pleased when I’ve had 2nd. Data suggests symptoms after 2nd AZ not as strong. It’s worth a few days discomfort

Bordois · 30/04/2021 08:03

I had my first AZ at the beginning of March, no real side effects, just a sore arm from where a needle had gone in!

Got my next one in about 3 weeks.

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 30/04/2021 08:03

I participated in the much maligned AZ trials. From my POV as a participant they ran very smoothly (I do realise that wasn't the bit that got critiqued)

I wanted to support the trial particularly because of the cost price aspect. I do not like to see big American pharma profiteering from a pandemic and I think that the fact AZ are doing this cost price is an amazing gift to the world that should be more appreciated.

Don't get me wrong I am glad we have a range of vaccines and drug development is very expensive, the Pfizer technology is very innovative. I am not wholly down on it. However the fact AZ are doing it so much cheaper is actually amazing and not a thing the drug industry is known for.

People in India, Brazil and Africa need this vaccine. They can't afford to buy Pfizer or Moderna or have any hope of meeting the storage and transportation requirements in rural areas. This vaccine has saved a lot of lives and around the world it's going to save a lot more. I expect it will save the most lives in fact due to the ease of use thing/ accessibility thing.

Until the whole world is vaccinated we will all be less safe so even if you only care about yourself you should still be thankful that this vaccine was invented, tested, manufactured and distributed in such a quick time and is making you safer even if you had a different vaccine or choose not to be vaccinated this vaccine is making the world a safer place for you.

AZ costs about £2. Pfizer about £15 per dose. Pretty impressive of AZ.

SunnyJill · 30/04/2021 08:07

I was really worried about having it after reading the threads with people saying they're side effects were awful. I could have had moderna but decided against the 2 hour round trip and had AZ.

Not one side effect here. Not even a sore arm. Just a feeling of relief and gratitude to our scientists.

Frequentflier · 30/04/2021 08:14

Over a 100 of my family and friends in India have had it, as have I, with minimal side effects. None of them are worrying about clots because they can hear the ambulance sirens ringing more or less constantly.

Synthesiser · 30/04/2021 08:16

I did feel a bit fluey for 24 hours but lemsip alleviated most of it. I can cope with feeling mildly fluey, it's corona I'm scared of and now I'm far safer. Thanks Astra Zeneca!

Peachylovesherpoochy · 30/04/2021 08:18

Had AZ this week on Tuesday, i barely felt the injection (the man in the cubicle next to me said ‘is that it??’ to the vaccinator, he sounded really shocked.

I felt fine after, went for a run and haven’t had so much as a sore arm, no bruise and have felt well all week.

I am so happy I have been vaccinated and grateful. I work with lots of colleagues all over the world and they are all so envious of how quickly we are being vaccinated (I always point out it is the only thing that has been handled with any kind of competence)

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 30/04/2021 08:22

Excellent thread. Thanks.

Trolleywool · 30/04/2021 08:23

I had it and was fine. I've heard that in general it seems that AZ first jab provokes a stronger immune response and 'effects', and Pfizer is the opposite way round (makes sense as the second Pfizer dose is double the strength of the first). It will be interesting when second doses of AZ ramp up as the first jabs were Pfizer.

Els1e · 30/04/2021 08:23

My mum has had 2 AZ jabs. First one she had a bit of a headache but that could have been the couple of glasses of Prosecco she had to celebrate. Second one, no symptoms at all but stuck to having a cup of tea afterwards. Most of my family have had AZ and are fine.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 30/04/2021 08:24

My 2nd is due and of May. Just turned 43 and was eligable due to being in receipt of carers allowance. Sore arm for a few says but that was it. Was very glad to have had it. Especially as my 10 year old had covid over Easter as I know a few adults who have caught it recently and been really unwell and unable to get out of bed, not something I want to be dealing with when I have a younger child who has asd

Trolleywool · 30/04/2021 08:24

That didn't make much sense, what I mean is that a lot of my colleagues who have now had their second dose of Pfizer had savage side effects, similar to what a lot of people report with the first AZ. Once more people have had the second dose of AZ it will be interesting to see if its the opposite and like the first Pfizer. Not sure how much sense that makes but still, hugely grateful to have been jabbed!

Iamanunsafebuilding · 30/04/2021 08:26

I work for UK Research and Innovation who were involved in the funding and development of the AZ vaccine and I am so proud to do so, I only do an admin job - not on the actual research! We also were privileged to have vaccine experts talk to us about the development and answer questions about all the vaccines last year.

I had my first AZ in March, sore arm and a bit meh for 24 hours, can't wait for jab 2. DH had not one effect after his!

What a great thread!

Poorlykitten · 30/04/2021 08:28

I am so grateful for the vaccine. Any vaccine. I was fine after my first dose, just a sore arm.
