Anyone want a BIG UP AZ thread?

ClingFilmAndGafferTape · 30/04/2021 00:07

There are threads a plenty at the moment about people not wanting the AZ thread so being a kind person I thought it would be good to have a big up AZ thread for those worrying about having it.

Full disclosure - I had AZ this week and the day after wasn't the best. But I'm not going to go on about that here because we've seen it all on other threads. But I'm so happy that day is behind me and I'm on my way to immunity. Anyone else want to contribute to help those that are worried?

Had both jabs now, first one felt a bit shivery and tired for 24 hours, second one nothing at all. I’m 55 and very grateful

Bubalie · 30/04/2021 19:50

Don’t worry honestly. I am the worst when it comes to health, major anxiety and was fine. I had a little temperature 38.5 and just felt tired and wanted to lie down and do nothing.

Cheermonger · 30/04/2021 19:51

@garlictwist

I received a text half an hour ago saying I could book my vaccine which was a bit of a surprise as I am 39.

I am a bit worried about it - not the blood clotting thing because I think that's very rare, but more the side effects.

Touch wood I have not been ill for about 10 years, not even a cold, and I just don't know how to be ill. I know that sounds strange and I realise I am very fortunate, but I'm phobic about being ill now.

For those people that said they felt a "a bit fluey" - what does that mean in practice? Sneezing? Coughing?

I just felt shivery, tired and a bit achy - like I was coming down with something that never actually arrived!

That previous post was meant for @garlictwist

I had my second dose a month ago tomorrow.

I no longer feel anxious when someone pushes past me or breathes down my neck in the supermarket.

Having lost my own DM to Covid, I no longer worry about double AZ'd MIL who has a terminal illness seeing family & friends.

I'm less anxious about my adult DC who work in the public sector and have had their first doses. They are unlikely to become seriously ill or worse.

And I'm incredibly proud, that I have personally given around 2,500 doses and been a part of a huge team effort to save lives and allow people to live again. For a once cynical, jaded, burnt out nurse, I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to be apart of such an amazing programme.

Did anyone have to take time off work to recover?

I booked mine for a Friday - I think, though, I'd have just about managed to work if I hadn't - similar to a very bad cold, mine were, but without the runny nose and sore throat - just the all-over aching and feeling shivery.
Frazzled2207 · 30/04/2021 20:18

@PurpleWh1teGreen
Sorry for your loss.
Brilliant effort at the vaccinating. I’m a volunteer myself but not the actually jabbing kind. It’s great to be involved isn’t it.

I started a couple of hours late as I hadn't slept very well. I could have logged on as I'm WFH but decided to take some time as I've done enough extra hours.
PurpleWh1teGreen · 30/04/2021 20:25

Definitely. I work with such a brilliant team too. All of our Marshall's, security, volunteers and health care assistants have come together with us to form an amazing team. I'm so pleased to work with all of them.

Iwant2move · 30/04/2021 20:27

56, fat, high blood pressure, tachycardia, multiple allergies. Had AZ in March. Zero side effects apart from slight ache in injection site because I kept prodding it hard.

RubyTrees · 30/04/2021 20:59

DH and I (50s) had our first AZ jab on 20th Feb (our surgery booked us in much sooner than we expected). Didn't even feel the needle going in. The next evening, DH had chills and a slight fever (took paracetamol and went to sleep), and I felt a bit off for a few hours (like I was coming down with something) - we were both perfectly fine the next morning.

We're getting our second doses on 10th May - can't wait!

Boph · 30/04/2021 21:58

@garlictwist. Feeling fluey doesn't mean sneezing or coughing at all. It mean you feel shivery or hot, sensitive skin, tired, aches.

peachgreen · 30/04/2021 23:59

@PurpleWh1teGreen @Frazzled2207 thank you both and any other vaccination volunteers or staff. I got mine done at one of those big vaccination centers and the whole operation was so incredible it genuinely made me cry (I lost my husband during (although not to) Covid so am quite emotional about the whole thing - sorry you lost your mum, Purple). I was just overwhelmed by the immense human effort that had come together to produce and administer these vaccines. It's honestly miraculous. When you consider the New York Times was predicting a year ago that it would take until 2032 for the vaccination to be in circulation... just incredible.

I'm off for my second vaccine now Grin makeup and actual clothes on Grin

Synthesiser · 01/05/2021 09:56

Garlictwist. I found lemsips helped a lot. It wasn't too bad at all.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 01/05/2021 11:01

I'm 18 days after my first AZ jab, so hopefully have some antibodies now.

Seeing friends today, clothes shopping tomorrow and pub lunch on Monday Smile This is the first weekend in ages that's just full of frivolous, fun stuff and it feels great.

I've always been cautious of COVID rather than scared, but nonetheless I've felt a real difference in terms of the mental load of being out and about. You don't realise how much unconscious tension you have till it starts to lift.

I've loved the people who have dressed up for their vaccines. It makes me a bit emotional as it's such a demonstration of what it means to people.

Good luck anyone having a jab today.

QueenPaw · 01/05/2021 12:20

@PurpleWh1teGreen I have shielded for so long it really was a giant milestone

beguilingeyes · 01/05/2021 12:48

We had one woman the other week in a sequinned dress. She looked great.

Isolatedizzy · 01/05/2021 14:55

Hooray! The drip drip of the negative threads is worrying!
I had my first AZ in March & can't wait for my second one! 😀

pommedeterre · 01/05/2021 15:10

I wore a jumper that is off shoulder enough to jab without taking it off which has a big sequin rainbow heart on the front for my first dose of AZ.

Eaumyword · 01/05/2021 15:55

Love this thread!
Compare where we are as a nation now to where we were in January and I feel quite emotional.
We're not out of the woods by a long way, but thanks to our wonderful vaccination programme and everyone who is involved in it, I feel we are slowly regaining control over the situation.
I had AZ early March and the relief was immense. Yes I was a bit nauseous and headachy the day after, but it only lasted a day and then I felt fine and calmer than I have in a year!
Looking forward to my 2nd jab in 3wks and I hope everyone who wants theirs, gets theirs soon too.

Unashamedly stealing this for 2nd round!
