Anyone want a BIG UP AZ thread?

ClingFilmAndGafferTape · 30/04/2021 00:07

There are threads a plenty at the moment about people not wanting the AZ thread so being a kind person I thought it would be good to have a big up AZ thread for those worrying about having it.

Full disclosure - I had AZ this week and the day after wasn't the best. But I'm not going to go on about that here because we've seen it all on other threads. But I'm so happy that day is behind me and I'm on my way to immunity. Anyone else want to contribute to help those that are worried?

Happy to add my voice to this. Felt a bit rough after the AZ jab, but was a good excuse to loll in bed and read. Looking forward to getting the next jab. So very grateful.

I do have one worry and that is that Johnson will be allowed to take the credit for the success of the vaccine roll out. We must not let this happen as the credit does not belong to him. It belongs to the NHS and also the civil servants working behind the scenes.

FeelinSpendy · 30/04/2021 08:38

I had my first AZ jab earlier this week, on Wednesday afternoon. By the late evening I had flu-type symptoms (shivering and achy) but slept ok. Yesterday morning I was very tired for a bit and a headache and a little bit of brain fog that lessened through the day. Feel completely back to normal this morning.
I was a little nervous about the AZ but would have happily had any offered to me. The clotting issue is a bit of a concern, but my understanding is there’s a higher risk with the pill, and I took that for years.

ApplesinmyPocket · 30/04/2021 08:43

I've had my first dose and was so happy and relieved to get it. I was pleased it was AZ when I got there as it's sort of 'home-grown' and was developed in the lab next door to the one where my DD used to work. I didn't have any side effects except the traditional slightly sore arm.

DD2 had A-Z too. She's just 32 and was due to have it the day after it was all over the news that under-30s wouldn't be offered it in future. We dithered a bit as 32 is quite close to 30 (obviously) and she wondered if she shouldn't wait, to see if things developed, but in the end after considering everything (she is a scientist, or was - career change) she decided to go ahead.

I think she was a bit tired and headachy for a couple of days but nothing more. She's delighted to have had it.

I feel sad that anti-A-Z feeling has got so much traction and that there's now a sort of fear around it. NO vaccine is entirely safe, we know that, we have a Vaccine Damage Fund for vaccs routinely given to children but few take that into account when considering whether or not to have their LOs vaccinated, because it's widely understood that the risk is low and the benefits outweigh them massively.

RoseMartha · 30/04/2021 08:45

I had AZ both. Bad side effects from first one. But went ahead and had second. Only side effect was a sore arm. Pleased I had both.

Fallstar · 30/04/2021 08:47

I've had both AZ jabs, and am very happy and relieved to have had them.

After the first one, I had a day of feeling fluey (aches, chills, temp, headache) followed by a day of being very tired. Nothing terrible and no sore arm.

After the second one a few days ago, I had one day of feeling tired and a bit spaced out, and now have a slightly sore arm. That's it.

I've been very annoyed by the tone of reporting about this vaccine. As far as I understand, all vaccines have a (tiny) risk of serious side effects, as do most other drugs, but you don't see the same scaremongering about the others. It's good for people to know what to look out for but this seems to be veering into political motivations.

APurpleSquirrel · 30/04/2021 08:48

I had my first AZ jab in mid-March - felt tired, achy & meh that day & following day then just a few headaches. Looking forward to getting my second dose soon.
DH is checking daily as to when he can book his.
I'm so grateful to everyone involved in developing it so that life can start to return to more normality.
It annoys me so much, the negativity & tbh over-reaction to the possible side effects. If anyone bothered to read the information leaflets in most common medications you'd be horrified at the side effects listed - but as they're so rare no one bothers. If something like Nurofen Plus was brought in & given to millions of people at the same time, we'd be shocked at the side effects experienced by a few people, as is the nature of ALL medications - it's just this is the first time we've had a new medication being administered on such a large scale at speed.

oneglassandpuzzled · 30/04/2021 08:50

Had mild fluey symptoms the following day and looking forward to my second dose.

As a volunteer i check in hundreds of people a shift in our small town who all look relieved to have had AZ.

minniemomo · 30/04/2021 08:52

We've all had AZ, March- April depending on age and even our 20 something DD's have been fine. 24 hours of symptoms then ok

sunshine7981 · 30/04/2021 08:53

This is such a great thread. These scientists worked round the clock to get us a vaccine and are selling it at a v low price. Can't believe all the uninformed rubbish spoken about the AZ vaccine. So happy to have had mine!

MaudesMum · 30/04/2021 08:57

Had mine in March - felt a bit meh afterwards, but not unwell enough to stop work/cancel pilates class. Next one is in a couple of weeks and I'm looking forward to it LOTS. Also incredibly impressed by the NHS organisation of it - booked both online as soon as I was allowed, first one showed up on my NHS app four days later!

HideousKinky · 30/04/2021 09:00

I had AZ in March and experienced no symptoms whatsoever. I'm 61

PearlHart · 30/04/2021 09:05

My Mum and Step-Dad, both very elderly, have had both doses of AZ and are very grateful and relieved to have received it. No side effects other than slightly sore arms.
My DH, early 50s, has had his first dose of AZ and had no side effects at all.
My DD, early 20s, received her first dose of AZ through work a few weeks ago - again, no side effects. DD is getting her second dose today Smile

Agree!
Synthesiser · 30/04/2021 09:11

I do not like to see big American pharma profiteering from a pandemic and I think that the fact AZ are doing this cost price is an amazing gift to the world that should be more appreciated
Agree with this

peachescariad · 30/04/2021 09:16

Had 1st jab in March, slight Covid-like symptoms in afternoon (was Covid +ve NYE), arm ached a bit for 3 days. Next jab end of May - can't wait.

Elisheva · 30/04/2021 09:17

I’m 43 and had my first AZ jab two weeks ago. My only side effect was a sore armpit, which is apparently due to lymph nodes being a bit swollen. No tiredness or anything else. Second one booked in for end of June.

PlayMemory · 30/04/2021 09:30

I had mine 2 weeks ago, had a temp and felt a bit rough for 36 hours and the back to normal. Got my period at the expected time 2 days ago.

Can't wait for me second one.

In my view Astra Zeneca has saved the UK.

PlayMemory · 30/04/2021 09:31

My second one! Blush

I'm 46

PurplePumpkinDream · 30/04/2021 09:42

Had mine no side effects at all. Sadly this jab has attracted a lot of bad publicity here and abroad, and people just refuse it when they know they are getting the AZ which is tragic! On the other hand I haven’t heard a lot about the known risk of anaphylactic shock associated with the Pfizer. I would have gratefully taken any and will if/when they roll out the booster jab.

LucilleTheVampireBat · 30/04/2021 09:44

Just booked mine this morning for 10th May. Will undoubtedly be AZ as they don't seem to be doing anything else in my area at all.

Husband has now had both doses of AZ. He had absolutely zero side effects. Not even a sore arm.

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 30/04/2021 09:47

One of my junior Drs just had a week off work after his 2nd Pfizer jab. Really suffering with temp, headache, muscle aches etc.

This is just to point out that the common side effects seem quite random as to who had none, who has one bad day and a small number of people who have quite bad symptoms. I know just as many, if not more, people who had a bad reaction to Pfizer as AZ.

TooStressyTooMessy · 30/04/2021 09:48

Yes! I feel hugely grateful to have had both doses of AZ. Absolutely agree that the realities of use and transport worldwide make this vaccine a truly incredible achievement. I absolutely despair of how it is currently being reported in the media and managed outside of the UK. We should be thanking AZ, not vilifying them. How on earth will we get any company to make treatments quickly and at cost price again if this is how we thank them Sad?

intothedark · 30/04/2021 09:51

Had my second yesterday was a bit off for a few days with the 1st one so far just an ache in my arm with the second my daughter and 3 sons have had it done both doses and where absolutely fine we are all glad its done

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 30/04/2021 09:56

I cannot believe the bloody EU suing AZ
(And I am a remain voter)

On the one hand half of them have banned it for most of their population anyway and on the other hand they want to sue for not getting enough supply due to problems in their own factories??

I mean if you think it's as dangerous and shit as you have been putting out then piss off and let the rest of the world have the supplies instead of suing over a vaccine you don't seem to want anyhow.

Or invest money in helping to solve the manufacturing issue at the EU plants

Suing a company making a cost price vaccine is really not a good look.

FreyaFolkvangr · 30/04/2021 10:08

I've had one dose of AZ (am in my thirties, group 6). I feel so lucky to have had it. No issues with symptoms after, thankfully, although I know one person who felt really poorly with it (everyone else has been fine or had minor issues). My parents just had their 2nd AZ dose - I feel so lucky to know they're safe (as safe as anyone can be, anyway).

It's an extraordinary thing that there are vaccines so soon and that they work so well. I am so proud of the Oxford team and everyone involved in getting jabs in arms.
