Anyone want a BIG UP AZ thread?

ClingFilmAndGafferTape · 30/04/2021 00:07

There are threads a plenty at the moment about people not wanting the AZ thread so being a kind person I thought it would be good to have a big up AZ thread for those worrying about having it.

Full disclosure - I had AZ this week and the day after wasn't the best. But I'm not going to go on about that here because we've seen it all on other threads. But I'm so happy that day is behind me and I'm on my way to immunity. Anyone else want to contribute to help those that are worried?

First dose this week. Day after was a bit rough but lasted 24 hours. That's it now! Second dose of AZ supposed to be much easier (and the reverse with other vaccines). I felt pretty emotional getting my jab. It's an amazing achievement for science. But I was also impressed with the way it's been rolled out. I think almost everyone has bought into the fairness of our roll out. We've all patiently waited our turn and I felt really quite amazed at what how far we have come since the beginning of the year.

Ps for those of you saying how amazing it is that we have got this for free, if you are able, please do consider donating the cost of your vaccine here: https://www.vaccinaid.org/?utmsource=google&utmmmedium=cpc&utmcampaign=vaccinaid&utmmterm=exvaccinationndonation&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIsM-nvOl8AIVh7PtCh3ZcwvWEAAYASAAEgIcwwD_BwE

The basic premise is that we aren't totally in the clear until everyone across the world has access to the vaccine, so consider donating the cost of yours to help those in developing countries. I know it's tough financial times and not everyone can afford to but just flagging in case anyone can.

Ouch - rogue apostrophe there - its!

Great suggestion re donating user1477249785. GAVI/Covax also have a donations facility.

(I took some boxes of chocolates (individually wrapped ones!) to the vaccination centre too - well received!)

SageRosemary · 30/04/2021 13:43

I had my AZ jab about 3 weeks ago. Slightly sore arm and slightly unwell between 12 and 20 hours after receiving it.

Thoroughly delighted to have received my first dose. Was a big thrill to be able to get on a bus this week as I don't drive. Bring on the second dose!

MrsFezziwig · 30/04/2021 13:46

I have just been invited to enrol in the REACT study to check for antibodies so hoping I am protected

I’m in a research study and now have tested positive for antibodies due to the AZ vaccine.

MrsFezziwig · 30/04/2021 13:51

Thanks for the link user1477249785.
I’ve donated.

Poppystars · 30/04/2021 14:01

Great link!
I have just had my second dose of AZ, 9 weeks from first dose. All well so far.

Boph · 30/04/2021 14:02

@Rillington

I am group 4 immunosuppressed part of the shielding group. I have had both vaccines and had no side effects at all.
Same here.

Dh had zero side effects.
DS23 had a few hours of fluey aches after the first dose but nothing after the second.

People who fret about injections puzzle me. It's really so quick and I could hardly feel anything.

I had a mild flare of Rheumatoid arthritis which soon settled. A small price to pay.

I am in a research study and discovered that I hadn't made antibodies 6 weeks after the first jab. I'm pleased to say that I did make antibodies after ten weeks, so on top of everything else I know it's working!

So the thing we have all yearned for for over a year is here and it's saving lives. My life has been transformed from shielding to going out and doing the same things that everyone else is allowed to do.

Great idea. I have donated.

My DH (early 40s) has had 2 doses of AZ and zero side effects. However, I had one dose of Pfizer and in bed for 2 days with a 40 degree temperature. The side effects are down to the person rather than the vaccine. Both very happy we live in the U.K. and have been offered vaccines, it is such a privilege!

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 30/04/2021 14:20

I had my first AZ vaccination on 31 March. No side effects at all - my arm was slightly sore if pressed where the needle went in. That was it.

DP had his first dose a couple of weeks before me and complained of feeling tired and not quite right for a couple of days.

springnamechange · 30/04/2021 15:00

AZ jabs, DH no side effects at all, I was poorly for 2 days with flu like symptoms after first one and fine after the second. I can think of ten other friends who have had both doses and no side effects from either.

raeray · 30/04/2021 15:17

Thank you for starting this brilliant post!

I'm very proud to have been part of the AZ trial and was lucky enough to get the real deal as part of that trial.

Vaccines are what will help get us out of this mess and I think the UK figures now so many are vaccinated help to show that.

HildegardNightingale · 30/04/2021 15:47

Had my 2nd AZ vaccine 2 days ago. No problems whatsoever. I’m a retired old lady who has come back to work in a vaccination centre.

Suzi888 · 30/04/2021 15:57

43 AZ no side effects whatsoever- nothing to report. It’s now three weeks on, period on time & normal.

Frazzled2207 · 30/04/2021 16:16

ooh this is the thread I was looking for .DH is booked in for tuesday and likely to get AZ - not worried about the risk but have heard horror stories about the side effects. Good to hear positive stories.
I had novavax and had no side effects at all.

MarcelineMissouri · 30/04/2021 16:42

Dh felt unwell for a couple of days - just very tired and achey. He slept a lot! I don’t know anyone else who has had anything other than a sore arm and maybe a bit of a headache. I have mine next week and I can’t wait. I know it’s Oxford because it said in my text. I am so incredibly grateful to all the amazing people that are making this possible!!

What a great thread.

SleepingStandingUp · 30/04/2021 16:47

I'm hoping how I feel today after yesterday's jab is my body mounting an immune response as it starts working. Bit of a fuzzy head after the first one and breathless / chesty today but it'll pass. DH had Pfizer and came down with a chronic and persisting case of smugness

Ifailed · 30/04/2021 17:04

I had my first AZ jab a while ago, and felt rough about a day later, which soon cleared up. I took that as a positive as it meant my immune system was working!
I look forward to my 2nd jab, and like PPs am so gratefully for the work done by scientists to develop, test and manufacture this vaccine. One that is cheap, transportable and easily deployed to the majority of the word who are not lucky to live in a wealthy country like this, with a health service devoted to us all, not to line the pockets of a few.

frozendaisy · 30/04/2021 17:06

We had AZ, me and Mr last weekend, we are a week into being somewhat vaccinated, shivers, sweats that evening, bit zonked, couple of paracetamol the following morning, and here we are.

Relief, thanks, yeah hope variants can be kept to "mild/moderate".

Thanks OxfordAZ, perhaps it isn't the "best" vaccine on the market, but it's cheap, which is important, doesn't need ultra-low temperatures for storage, it was developed, trialled, rolled out, for cost, for as many arms globally as is possible.

We are all in this together, no one is safe until we are all safe and OxfordAZ is trying to adhere to this as far as I can tell.

So fuck the negativity, it's working.

Thanks again all. Respect.

Bubalie · 30/04/2021 19:05

Me! I have a massive health anxiety and am so proud of myself to have been able to get over the blood clot fear and have my first AZ vaccine 3 weeks ago. Side effects were not that bad, I just spent couple of days on the sofa taking it easy, mild temperature and feeling tired and slight arm ache. I’m 45.

MRex · 30/04/2021 19:08

Well done @Bubalie!

RedcurrantPuff · 30/04/2021 19:22

9 weeks post AZ.

All good and looking forward to my second dose

This

I’m under no illusions that it’s not perfect. All it has to be for now is good enough. And it is.

garlictwist · 30/04/2021 19:46

I received a text half an hour ago saying I could book my vaccine which was a bit of a surprise as I am 39.

I am a bit worried about it - not the blood clotting thing because I think that's very rare, but more the side effects.

Touch wood I have not been ill for about 10 years, not even a cold, and I just don't know how to be ill. I know that sounds strange and I realise I am very fortunate, but I'm phobic about being ill now.

For those people that said they felt a "a bit fluey" - what does that mean in practice? Sneezing? Coughing?
