I’m due to go and get my second Oxford jab on Saturday and I really don’t want it. I’m 30 and have been put off getting it 😩 work is really pushing me to have it. Not sure what to do :(

People are frustrated because there are constantly threads like this, and new ones started day after day, all saying the same thing. That's what makes it seem anti-vax. Fine to worry and seek reassurance - but there are so many threads on that already. And many of the threads are started by people who have already decided, and are just spreading anxiety as a result - they don't want to be convinced or reassured.

And it does threaten to undermine the vaccination program, if people who were going to have it end up being put off, because of spreading anxiety that makes the risks seem bigger than they are.

For the people who are so anxious they have decided not to have it - and there are several on here who continually post that this is the case - then really, the best course of action would be to never mention that, because the more other people have the vaccine, the better off they will be. If you start spreading fear and convincing other people not to have it, in order to feel better about your own decision or justify it to yourself, then you are potentially increasing your own risk from Covid and lockdowns, because it will continue to spread and/or develop vaccine-escape variants.

everybodysang · 28/04/2021 10:40

@Whatisthisfuckery

Ignore all the covid lovers on here OP. If you’re a healthy 30 year old you really don’t need the jab anyway. There are people on here who would see you dead from the side effects of a jab you don’t need just so they can feel better. Ignore them, they aren’t rational. If you’re healthy you don’t need the jab, so if you don’t want it then don’t have it.
there are loads of people on here who would, it appears, love this pandemic to go on even longer by, for example, spreading misinformation and fearmongering. So strange.

Don't have it then.

MrsPsmalls · 28/04/2021 10:49

Yes please zap away mumsnet. Don't let science phobic drama llamas drag others into ill health.

B1rthis · 28/04/2021 10:49

I think if your employer is coercing you into anything vaccine or other it would be time to have a chat with them about the legalities.
Ask them if you require sickness brief or long-term how they would support you.
If you have any injuries as a result, would they be willing to agree to financially support you.
If they don't stop pushing I would state you are discussing with unions about claims with employers following a demand to take something you're uncomfy with.
They might back off so you can take a bit of time to think straight!
Ask the research Nursing team you're vaccine is under for more reassurance on the ingredients. You can read them in your patients information leaflet which to you when you're discussing the reactions, allergies and health conditions before you have a drug.
There's always an option to delay or say no to continuing.
You're part of a fantastic clinical trial and you and when you signed the consent forms to agree to this, you will be going down in history as some amazing people helped generations to come!!

littlepattilou · 28/04/2021 10:50

@Thedarksideofthemoon30 If you had no bad side effects from the first one, you will NOT get any from the second one!

Hope that helps.

littlepattilou · 28/04/2021 10:51

@Whatisthisfuckery

WTAF?! Angry

babbaloushka · 28/04/2021 10:53

No record of blood clots attributed to the 2nd dose, it's only the first dose.

CovidHalloween · 28/04/2021 11:10

@Whatisthisfuckery your post is an extremely irresponsible post! 🙄

Nith · 28/04/2021 11:16

@Thedarksideofthemoon30

Blood clots I think. I was fine the first time :(
Then it's a virtual certainty that you will be fine this time. Or would you rather get Covid?
Nith · 28/04/2021 11:17

OP doesn’t need protecting, covid won’t kill her. She also isn’t obliged to expose herself to known and unknown risks so all you covid lot can feel better. You lot enjoy your jabs, drink a whole truck full of the stuff, but stop coercing and guilting perfectly healthy not at risk people into taking a treatment whose short term side effects are only just becoming clear, and whose medium and long term side effects aren’t known at all.

No-one can claim with certainty that Covid won't kill them, let alone that it won't leave them with long-term debilitating after-effects. That really is a nonsensical thing to post.
Nith · 28/04/2021 11:20

You obviously don't have to have it if you don't want it, but your employer is entitled to say they don't want you putting your colleagues and customers at risk.

Are you intending to drive at any time in the near future, or to cross any roads? You do realise your risk from those activities is far greater?

TheSockMonster · 28/04/2021 11:36

The risk of a blood clot with your second dose really is minuscule. As far as I know, none have been reported.

You’re fortunate that you’re young and had the first dose so are very unlikely to get covid badly, but your risk of spreading it will decrease with the second dose so if you can bring yourself to have it, please do Flowers

SimpleWayOfLife · 28/04/2021 11:37

So my post calling Whatisthisfuckery a twat is deleted but their vaccine scaremongering untruths are allowed. Unbelievable.

Myalternate · 28/04/2021 11:40

If your worry is genuine, seek advice from a medical professional such as your GP. It's their job to allay your fears by giving you proper advice without the scaremongering. Please don't make any decision based on the frankly offensive post by Whatisthisfuckery which has absolutely no merit.

Nsmum14 · 28/04/2021 11:49

Look up the views of Byram Bridle a Canadian immunologist. Reading his well expressed concerns may help you come to a decision.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 28/04/2021 11:53

If you didn’t have major side effects with first does that should be fine for second dose. Imagine how relieved you’ll a week after with immunity!

Delatron · 28/04/2021 11:58

Do you know what is more scary than the minuscule risk from the vaccine? The fact that a public forum is allowing others to encourage and play on posters fears so that they end up changing their minds and not getting vaccinated. That is influencing people. So many have changed their minds after reading scaremongering bollocks on here. Well done Mumsnet, brilliant job.

You do know the only way to avoid Covid becoming a problem again and thousands more dying and endless lockdowns is an effective vaccination program? Do we not think the media are posting enough crap about this. I fully expect take up in the next group to be way down. What a shame.

You can not argue with the actual statistics and facts. For those scared go away and educate yourself rather than asking on here. It’s not like we are all medically qualified or scientists.

Loveistheonlyhipe · 28/04/2021 12:01

Nsmum14

I'm assuming that will be some fuckwit outlier trying to scare people too.

Nsmum14 · 28/04/2021 12:10

@Loveistheonlyhope not at all, that is a big assumption to make. Also why the need to insult people, simply because they want a full view of a complex situation? I listen to the views of all immunologists. If you don't want to that is your choice, but the info is there if you want to look it up.
Like him I want the vaccination programme to be a massive success, who wouldn't?

LeaveMyDamnJam · 28/04/2021 12:13

The risk of clots from the virus are far higher than the vaccine. You should be bloody relieved that we have such a brilliant vax programme. Have a look at India and the devastation that is happening there.

Orchidflower1 · 28/04/2021 12:15

Ok blood clots with their tiny, minuscule risk even smaller for the second jab. Go get it done. You’ll never travel if you don’t!

RedcurrantPuff · 28/04/2021 12:24

Agreed
