Out of 12,383 Delta variant cases in UK till June 3rd:

  • 464 people went to emergency care
  • 126 admitted to hospital
  • 83 were unvaccinated
  • 28 had one jab
  • Just 3 both doses
TeenMinusTests · 07/06/2021 17:10

and 12 status unknown?

TruelyStruttingHotpants · 07/06/2021 17:15

@TeenMinusTests

and 12 status unknown?
They forgot to ask them?

Dementia?

Amnesia?

They don't speak English?

They are like my friend's elderly aunt and refuse to answer any question if it is classed as helpful? 😂

  • 464 people went to emergency care
  • 126 admitted to hospital
  • 83 were unvaccinated

from the BBC

"Of the 12,383 new cases as of 3 June, 464 went on to present at emergency care and 126 were admitted to hospital.

Of those, 83 were unvaccinated, 28 had one dose of vaccine and three had both doses, he says."

I read that as 3/126 rather than 3/12, 383. Still good though, but I would be very happy to get it confirmed as the latter!

TruelyStruttingHotpants · 07/06/2021 17:17

Regular ONS surveys on vaccine uptake intentions show that 16-29 is the only age group where fewer than 90% say they'll take jab when offered. It's still 85%

(I know 85% is less than expected from other age ranges but I actually am happy with that. It can only go up from there after all)

TruelyStruttingHotpants · 07/06/2021 17:20

3/126 rather than 3/12, 383

In this case does that not basically mean the same thing?

Only 3 people in hospital that have had both doses. Whether out of total cases or total in hospital. Still 3 people isn't it? Or am I missing something.

TheChineseChicken · 07/06/2021 17:25

Thanks for updates. Does anyone have a feel for whether 8 week is better than 12 for AZ? I’m 40 on the nose, no known risk factors (slim, female, no known comorbidities etc).

I think the breakdown is just of the 126. So some of the 464 in emergency care may have had both doses too.

I'm really interested in exactly who will get ill despite having both doses and how the figures break down.

However, it is still really good! that the vaccine is so protective.

Cafeaulait27 · 07/06/2021 17:39

I tried with moderna and there was nothing, but luckily I got my original date back.

I would love my second dose sooner but never mind, there doesn’t seem to be as much supply of moderna in the uk.

I’m very encouraged by the low deaths today, does anyone know if we should be seeing a rise in deaths yet due to the delta variant?

I’m not sure how we’re doing on hospital figures at the moment either. Xxx

TruelyStruttingHotpants · 07/06/2021 17:50

Pretty sure the chart doing the rounds on Twitter is all hospitalisation. Therefore 3 people overall. However I am no expert Grin

I don't mind having my AZ second dose anytime between 8 and 12 weeks. Seen lots of research saying early is actually fine and lots of research saying later is better.
The general consensus from Whitty, Chise or other people that seem to know their stuff is 8 to 12 weeks. Going to rearrange mine for just over 8 weeks. 46 in London and the Delta won't wait for me.

Cafeaulait27 · 07/06/2021 18:00

That’s great that you can get your AZ vaccine sooner 🥂

Am I right in thinking people in hospital isn’t going up, and neither are deaths?

I feel like it’s looking ok but could be wrong...

Bordois · 07/06/2021 18:11

Am I right in thinking people in hospital isn’t going up, and neither are deaths?

Not by any significant amount in comparison to cases and it seems those that are going are less ill than before

Bordois · 07/06/2021 18:14

Missed this part...

Its looking like the link between cases and hospital/deaths has been reduced which is good news but its probably too early to tell for sure now.

The delta variant has been an issue for a few weeks now, and we are 3 weeks post the last reopening so if there was any significant effect it should be showing up about now.

Fleek · 07/06/2021 18:19

I feel like the answer is yes. Even if it was only the very beginnings of things rising, references to the Delta variant have been panic stations territory for just over a month I think. 4 weeks-5 of sharply rising cases = an uptick in deaths in the other waves. I still want to see how the next 2 weeks go to relax more but the fact that we're still on such low numbers is a really positive sign. And to be honest, I won't worry even if deaths do go up. I would be surprised if they don't. It's just what constitutes a rise? How many are we talking? How are the hospitals? I suspect we could rumble along with 1-400 deaths for weeks over the summer and most people would still want life to open up now. And then more are vaccinated anyway plus you start with booster jabs

Cafeaulait27 · 07/06/2021 18:43

Thank you @Bordois and @Fleek!

BessMarvin · 07/06/2021 20:19

I'm in my 40s and they gave me Pfizer (I don't know why). I'm not sure whether I should move my 2nd earlier if poss. Googling seems to return mixed results.

Worried1305 · 07/06/2021 20:45

Could someone confirm this for me - If my first vaccine was booked via my GP, I need to wait to be contacted by them for my second, don’t I? I can’t bring it forward myself? Thanks in advance (and thanks for all the good news as ever, love this thread).

You can, or you can login to book it elsewhere. www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/

My first vaccine was booked through my GP. I booked the second via the NHS site. I was then contacted by the GP for the second earlier than my appointment. So cancelled my apppointment and took the earlier one. It does not seem to be linked.
EasterIssland · 07/06/2021 21:30

I had my first vía the gp and my second via the nhs national system as it suit me better for the dates (they were same weeks but one during the week and the other one weekend)

thatgingergirl · 08/06/2021 07:42

DD has her vaccine appointment on Friday, she's 26. I don't think she gave it a second thought - just booked it when it was opened. So pleased.

carolinesbaby · 08/06/2021 09:18

Not a positive thought today, sorry but I am getting a little upset about all the hatred of teenagers. It's hardly their fault that they aren't vaccinated and are have to go to school and therefore the case levels are highest in their age group.

Autumn101 · 08/06/2021 09:43

Reachers - I know it’s hard but try to avoid any other threads on this board, there are some nasty folk on there! I too really don’t like how teenagers are being portrayed in all this - like you say they have to go to school, have no option to be vaccinated so it’s hardly surprising cases will spread amongst them. All of my DS and his friends have tried so hard to be responsible and have worn masks/done LFT/distanced as much as is practical without complaint so I try to ignore the catty comments........

They are moaning about teenagers??? Seriously 🤯

This is an odd site sometimes is it.

You only have to see the crowds young people every time they do the over 18 walk in centres. The teenagers have also been wearing masks and getting tested on mass far more than any other age range. They mostly have objected to this less too.

Also we are testing more kids so will get more positives from them. Like now we are testing primary school kids as well. Surprise surprise we will have more positive cases in that age range than previously. It isn't rocket science. Community and school transmission is one and the same. Kids are not responsible for what happens in their communities. Yes they can spread it but if it wasn't there in the first place that wouldn't happen.
