@TheCountessofFitzdotterel

They were talking on the news about the amazing covid spotting dogs being 94% accurate, the same as a lateral flow test!
Possibly better than LFTs www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2021/may/20/dogs-can-better-detect-covid-in-humans-than-lateral-flow-tests-finds-study

Does that mean we all get our own spaniel?!

Just for you

That sounds lovely herecomesthesun. The Alpine Bistro sounds like a classy joint Wink

@1990s I have it on good authority that the burgers and chips in a basket were delicious.

And more in (cute) pictures

Yes, Rishi has worked out that giving everyone a spaniel will be cheaper than extending furlough.
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 24/05/2021 13:29

I've been telling DH for a long time that we need a dog but he can't argue if it's government mandated can he?!

Autumn101 · 24/05/2021 13:55

As you’re all so good at finding all the positive facts and figures has anyone seen any reports for the Indian variant etc and effectiveness of Moderna?? Everything in the main news seems to all just be about AZ and Pfizer so far - I’m assuming it’ll be pretty similar to those?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 24/05/2021 14:57

There might not have been enough Moderna jabs given in the relevant places to get quality data? Afaik India isn’t using Moderna and we haven’t done many here.

EasterIssland · 24/05/2021 15:03

And moderna first was used at the end of April ? So I guess not enough data for the Indian variant , but I’d predict it’d be similar to pfizer

carolinesbaby · 24/05/2021 16:02

Someone at work told me today that AZ only gives 33% protection after 1 dose and 65% after 2. That's not true is it?!

RainbowCrayons · 24/05/2021 16:06

I think that's to transmission. It's much better protection against you getting very ill. And even at 65% that makes it better than the flu jab.

1990s · 24/05/2021 16:28

@Reachersloveinterest

Against the Indian variant, and that's for symptomatic disease.

Against other variants and against death and hospitalisation is much higher.

Autumn101 · 24/05/2021 17:06

Yeah I guess you’re right about Moderna not having enough time for much data, it’ll be interesting to see how it compares in the future

MRex · 24/05/2021 17:29

Each time Pfizer and Astrazeneca end up about the same, with Astrazeneca taking a bit longer for immunity to build up. (In the UK, AZ started being used a month later and did most of the care homes except NI who used Pfizer, so those may also affect the early stats). It would be very surprising if Moderna didn't also give very good immunity on a similar scale, because it's a great vaccine from all other trials; as an mRNA it'll probably do it on the shorter timescale like Pfizer.
HelloMist · 24/05/2021 17:48

I saw this linked on another thread to explain the lower stats being quoted for AZ.

twitter.com/sailorrooscout/status/1396409964239917056?s=19

It takes time, as MRex says.

TruelyStruttingHotpants · 24/05/2021 18:12

Moderna is basically the same as Pfizer. Slightly different abouts of some ingredients apparently. So Moderna is expected to have very similar results as Pfizer for all the variants.

TruelyStruttingHotpants · 24/05/2021 20:06

*amounts Grin

carolinesbaby · 24/05/2021 20:56

Thanks everyone. I do know all this really, just occasionally I get a bit anxious! She quoted those stats at me and I didn't know how to reply.

Dementedswan · 24/05/2021 22:23

Every jab in every arm helps. I'm trying not to get hung up AZ v Pfizer. Dh had Pfizer, I had az. Group 6 so called up early and took what was on offer. Ee are both double jabbed. Still being careful, working from home, shopping delivered etc.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 25/05/2021 13:01

Hi All! Long time lurker and occasional poster, just bobbing in for a daily dose of sanity.......

Also:

Events held across the UK to trial bringing back mass gatherings have so far yielded positive results, with just 15 people reportedly contracting Covid-19 out of roughly 60,000 who took part

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/covid-trials-crowd-mass-events-b1851700.html

Thats gotta be good news right?

Bordois · 25/05/2021 14:04

I've been to IKEA. Which quite frankly is as good as it gets 🤣🤣🤣

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 25/05/2021 14:11

Did you go to the cafe and have meatballs?

Bordois · 25/05/2021 14:15

I bought some frozen meatballs but didn't have time to stop for food. 😔

Thanks for spoiling it. 🤣🤣

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 25/05/2021 14:17

Frozen meatballs are just as good!
I always go mad in the food shop and buy all the different types of pickled herring and something made out of reindeer to wind up the kids.
