GlaxoSmithKline and sanofli latest vaccine news:-

I'm so glad I found this thread! I'm been feeling really flat as my jab isn't til next week and we have plans this week which now feel really risky as we are in the unvaccinated under 40s group. However this has helped to actually show the facts, and that there is actually very positive news out there still

beebopalola · 17/05/2021 14:51

Is there any positive data on how the new variant affects under 40s and children? I'm seeing quite a lot of doom and gloom on here generally although a lot of it seems to be anecdotal, but largely based around if you're in your 20s and 30s you're in big trouble if you get it, and it would be nice to see some information around that.
I'm not being doom and gloom btw please don't bar me from this positive thread Grin

We won't bar you @beebopalola! But maybe bar yourself from the other threads?! 😉

Actually think that's mostly a rehash of previous postings

beebopalola · 17/05/2021 14:57

I think that's a good idea - wise as well as positive, what a thread Grin

I almost cancelled an overnight stay we have this week because I was met with quite strong (and as it turns out, not based in fact at all) responses and was going to hide the category altogether then spotted you here.

In other positive news I've just been able to book a jab for me and DH (Both 37 and couldn't book this morning, then got through this afternoon) for Sunday and Monday so I'm pretty chuffed with that. Second doses already booked for August.

Thanks for that beeb also 37 and also booked in now!

TruelyWonder · 17/05/2021 17:32

A new study out of the New York University Grossman School of Medicine shows the current vaccines WILL remain protective against variants B.1.617 and B.1.618, first identified in India.

More proofGrin I have not got a link yet. Will post it and more information later if I can.

TheChineseChicken · 17/05/2021 18:17

We just need some transmissibility data / better estimates. Some of the cases / deaths numbers coming out of the epi modelling have been bonkers

TheChineseChicken · 17/05/2021 18:18

I can tell how bad my anxiety is from my phone usage doom scrolling. Up 18% since last week Blush

tobee · 17/05/2021 18:28

Threads need hiding!

tobee · 17/05/2021 18:30

I've only been here and nice boards since end of last week. So much better! Only so much banging against wall in response to certain posts my head can take. 🤕

TruelyWonder · 17/05/2021 18:56

I have hidden several threads on this board over the last couple of weeks. Mostly because they are so repetitive. Same posters, same answers and same scaremongering. It goes from annoying to boring depending on my mood.

Totally agree chicken we need that transmission percentage now!

I have seen some speculation that it may actually be not much different from the Kent in the end. They are saying that travelers and people close to them got infected really quickly. However those outside of that circle have been infected slower. Which can happen. All the data is not yet available though. So that is just a pipe dream for now.

Hopefully we are not looking at more than 25% or less. Fingers crossed and all that.

Hi honey

I really want to answer your question but we don't have a lot of information because India is so chaotic. Hospital records are bad and a lot of deaths go unreported.

What information we have got suggests the variants severity is not much different from the Kent variant. The age ranges do seem lower in reporting but that has a lot to do with the sheer number of people getting sick. Plus conditions health care wise are very poor. People we could treat and save will die in India.

Saying all that my brother inlaw had a 32 year old work mate that was over there. He found out last week the man died. We have no idea if and underlying health conditions. So that kind of antidote is scary.

REALLY REALLY REALLY SORRY GOOD NEWS THREAD. I just wanted to be honest there.

Yes, we need to see how quick the spread is beyond the initial seeding points. I guess we’ll have some idea in a week or two
tobee · 17/05/2021 20:01

It might take a long time to work out the transmission rates. I think it's quite hard to measure.

Do you remember that we were told that, as well as having high transmission rate, that the Kent variant caused more severe disease? Well it took until the end of March to say actually it didn't.
