@TruelyWonder

Great news from Oxford on B.1.617.2 the India variant.

Slight reduction in neutralisation, in line with 2.9x seen for P.1 from Brazil.

This is only slightly higher than the 2.6x seen for B.1.117 from United Kingdom

Far less than the 9x seen with B.1.351 from South Africa

Well done if you understand all of that. Basically the vaccines should work ok on the India variant. Something like they currently do on the Brazilian variant I think it means Grin

Boom!

Thank god for this thread.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 16/05/2021 09:30

I was able to book my 2nd jab 8 weeks after my 1st yesterday. I'm 46 and didn't think I'd be able to but I put my details into to the booking website out of curiosity and got a date in June. I'd rather go to the same GP centre as I had the first but I just want it done (even with a needle phobia!).

PomRuns · 16/05/2021 09:33

That’s brilliant news @PinkSparklyPussyCat

Sorry think I missed posts about family members receiving vaccines - so nice to see (such a Pollyanna !)

But SAGE said

(c+p loads of stuff from SAGE minutes)

Bordois · 16/05/2021 09:39

I am confused about that because of the clots issue. They won't be able to give it to younger people like we thought would they?

Oh yes, I had forgotten about the J&J clot issue 🤦🏼‍♀️

Still think a single jab would be ideal for unis and colleges to give out on site to their students, but thats like to be a non starter now

1990s · 16/05/2021 09:46

I am stupid. Shared that Times article with DSis.

Immediate intense and prolonged doom. "It won't work and it's everywhere already".

Is this whole thing making anyone else reassess how much time they want to spend with some people?

I have no problem with hearing people's worries, but the more doom I hear it just makes me think, do I want to be around you...

maxiflump1 · 16/05/2021 10:04

@TeenMinusTests when were you due to have your second jab? I'm in category 6 and due second on 19th June but hoping it might be brought forward now.

TeenMinusTests · 16/05/2021 10:08

DH (60s) & I (50s) both had jabs booked in half term, so start June.

PomRuns · 16/05/2021 10:26

BBC news website- Hancock confident jab works on variety. Also said all but 1 admissions in Bolton were people who had not received vaccines. The person was vaccinated was ‘frail’.

So that fits with cracking on with arms out !

PomRuns · 16/05/2021 10:29

*variant

Pollyanna’s we are not doomed.

thatgingergirl · 16/05/2021 10:35

Continued thanks to everyone for the links. Nothing specific to add myself, but I'm so grateful to be able to pull up this thread every day!

OrangeBananaFish · 16/05/2021 12:25

Well I'm feeling a bit more positive today.

From what I can tell the vaccines we have should work against the Indian variant (obviously no vaccine is 100% perfect 100% of the time) and we need to get more and more vaccines into more and more people to help to stop the spread of this variant.

Well they have 4 weeks to get those jabs into arms and get the variant under control. Fingers crossed they can get it done so the roadmap can carry on. The next couple of weeks should give us an idea. Going to keep all my fingers and toes crossed.

Bordois · 16/05/2021 13:17

One thing to keep in mind is that "we don't know if it works yet" is not the same as "it doesn't work"

tobee · 16/05/2021 13:49

Yeah I've got the "bring your second dose forward" text today. London but not problematic surge testy area as far as I know.

PomRuns · 16/05/2021 15:35

DH has been able to move his 2nd dose forward - so happy !

Namechangeforthis88 · 16/05/2021 16:18

Lurker on these here! Just had my jab, my 15 minutes is up, but I'm quite enjoying the quiet sit down.

1990s · 16/05/2021 16:20

Yay namechange must feel great.

Oldtimer2020 · 16/05/2021 16:28

Coming back to this thread, as I do when feeling discombobulated. Thank you for perking me up Smile
Please can I check, those of you who have been able to move your 2nd jabs forward, are you in the over 50s top priority groups please? Am late 40s and it’ll be 8 weeks tomorrow, 2nd jab booked in at 11.5 weeks and am wondering if it’s worth trying to change...? Thanks

tobee · 16/05/2021 17:03

Yes I'm 53.

tobee · 16/05/2021 17:06

I got a text this a.m. with a link. I originally booked my second jab without a text just through the site. It's worth a go I think. If you input your nhs number they know who you are.

Actually, come to think, when I followed the link to change my booking today I had to cancel my original booking first which was disconcerting. So hmm maybe not worth the risk. 🤔

Sorry not very helpful

tobee · 16/05/2021 17:07

It would be annoying if you ended up with a later date than your original second dose booking

maxiflump1 · 16/05/2021 17:08

@Oldtimer2020 I have an underlying condition that qualified me for an earlier jab and thinking the same about the second jab. Just gone onto nhs vaccine website though and saw this message. Don't think I'll risk trying to change it now. Hopefully we'll both get a message soon.

OneSecond · 16/05/2021 17:10

@Oldtimer2020 I posted about this on another thread. I cancelled my second AZ jab to rebook somewhere more local and got offered an appointment at 8 rather than 12 weeks. (Was end of July now end of June). Also booked a second appointment for DH as he didn't have one having had his first at a GP-led centre. He also got booked at 8 weeks. We are both 41 in a low cases area.

PomRuns · 16/05/2021 17:21

DH is 44, cancelled his 11 week appointment and got 8 weeks. Understand it’s a bit eek cancelling first but I don’t think they’ll let people go over 12 weeks - you could phone if this happened ??

Oldtimer2020 · 16/05/2021 17:34

Thank you! It’s the cancelling bit that’s freaking me out! Not generally a risk taker.... Grin
