@Meltinthemiddle

Hi sorry, haven't had chance to read through all the posts. I just wanted ask if you are 40 are you still happy to have the AZ? I'm happy to have the vaccine (sort of) but would much prefer to have the Pfizer due to the blood clot risks.
I’d be happy to have the AZ as a 42 year old. Actually very proud of the Oxford jab and it’s ‘not for profit’ stance.
RumHoney · 03/05/2021 11:28

I'm 42 and had az yesterday.

Eccle80 · 03/05/2021 11:38

I’m 40 and had AZ on Friday. I’d had a slight preference for trying to book a moderna site, mainly in fear of how ill I might feel after AZ, but when it came to it on Thursday evening I could book an AZ site the next day or wait over 2 weeks for a site where i might get moderna but it wouldn’t be a guarantee, and it was more important to me to be protected as soon as possible.

41 year old DH also had AZ.

MRex · 03/05/2021 11:45

Personally I was pleased to be vaccinated even though it was during the excessive panic about clots, didn't mind which one and had AZ; very few side effects of just a mild headache plus breastfed toddler and I had a snotty nose (though that is less likely to be linked). In the 40s age group, clots can occur from many causes and one unexpected benefit to all this may be everyone learning to understand the various symptoms of a blood clot. All vaccines and all medications have some risks, all deaths are that occur around the time of vaccination that may occur from immune responses or from side effects, or may not actually be related. Those are almost exactly equal per million vaccinated in the UK with Pfizer or with AZ, both 0.0031%. Keep an eye out after vaccination regardless of which vaccine you have, but it's a very tiny risk.

OK thank you, feeling a little bit more reassured. My friend works in ICU so has been telling me a few horror stories of blood clots 😱 and I was already nervous about it especially as only just turned 40.

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 03/05/2021 12:15

41 and had AZ on Saturday.

People get blood clots regardless. It's something that happens every day anyway; I am probably more at risk of getting a clot on a plane than I am because of the jab.

I just read that there’s no new first doses at our local surgery chain for the next two weeks for 40+ although they are getting the Pfizer which they will start giving to 18-30 year olds. It looks like 30 to 44 year olds will be very last in the queue here 🙄

My nearest venue offering is 1.45 hours away. I’m hoping to pick up a local cancellation on the nhs website but no luck after at least 30 different search attempts.

MRex · 03/05/2021 12:31

@ureterr1blemuriel - the first doses Pfizer may be a few doses for vulnerable people in that group who have not yet been vaccinated? If you're in England then the GP is not allowed to be vaccinating in a different priority order than the one laid out by JCVI, so you can report that as an issue to the CCG or PHE if they explicitly state that is what they are doing.

It is ridiculous isn't it. I know 18 year olds who have been vaccinated with Pfizer ahead of 40 year olds being called.
Katesblazer · 03/05/2021 15:18

Nearly 24hrs since first AZ jab. I’ve got a temperature, aches and feeling a bit off it.

Did you get a sticker? If so where did you get your jab❤
chloworm · 03/05/2021 15:43

Husband 40 years East Kent got North Kent (1 hour away) for first and Rayleigh in Essex (2 hours away) for second.

RumHoney · 03/05/2021 15:44

No sticker Angry. I completely forgot to ask though! Just relieved to get it done as I'd been getting a bit twitchy earlier in the day waiting.

keep trying, there was nothing at all available within reasonable distance for me initially other than some 'blink and you'll miss them' cancellations. A few days later though loads appeared.

🥳 Well I definitely can get to Wimbledon on the train if they still have appointments and stickers
Frazzled2207 · 03/05/2021 15:48

@LittleRen

35-39 is likely to be w/c 10th May from what I have read and what normally happens. It's too early right now, there are normally around 2 weeks minimum between age ranges.
also I hope this will increase but they are only jabbing 100,000 a day with first doses at the moment. I'm not sure how many 40-44 year olds there are but several million at least. Suggestions on twitter however that the number of first doses per day will increase during May though.

Pleased for you that no more twitching. Sad about the sticker situation thoughFlowers Hopefully you can grab one for your second doseGrin

I'm back!!!! Report as follows:

  • Etihad/Sport City Manchester
  • AZ
  • Absolutely massive and super organised
  • Lovely, lovely man did my vaccination
  • Most people on 1st vaccines in their 40's & 50's
  • I have a sticker!!!! Grin
LittleRen · 03/05/2021 20:13

@Frazzled2207 2019 data showed 4.02 million people aged 40-45, I would assume similar amount now, many of who will have been jabbed. So at 100000 a day it will take at least a month but as I said many will have been done already and some will not want the vaccine.

Mum2threejs · 03/05/2021 20:15

Fairly angry about this today I’m 37, my work colleague is 32. We both have the docs but she got a phone call asking if she wanted to book. I haven’t . Our docs is currently saying over 40s though.

ureterr1blemuriel · 03/05/2021 20:22

Thanks @MRex - yes I think that’s what they are doing. There’s definitely not 1600 18-30 who are CEV in our village and the nearby town. I don’t want to complain to anyone as there’s been a few local GP’s not following rules. I know a very healthy 41 yo who had their first a month ago. He was surprised he was invited!

@vaccineenvy sorry to hear that you’re experiencing it too. Hopefully we’ll get sorted soon!

Thanks @ Frazzled2207 - I’m really hoping some come up this week 🤞🏻

MRex · 03/05/2021 20:23

It should be possible to work it out on Thursday; the vaccine statistics are released here weekly but only split the younger age categories when it's their turn:
www.england.nhs.uk/statistics/statistical-work-areas/covid-19-vaccinations/.

45-49 had been on 70% according to this, as of 28th. 3.7m expected in the age category so can't be more than 550k to reach 85% and wouldn't expect it to be higher than that. So doses done must have completed that age group for all wanting it, but still the vast majority of 45-49 to be done.

OP posts:
MRex · 03/05/2021 20:23

Eh, last but should be 40-44 obviously.
