I didn’t really you can move them. Maybe I should book end of May then central London as a back up.

MRex · 01/05/2021 08:29

@Blueskytoday06

Not vaccine panic - I'm not an anti vaxxer. What I'm deliberating is the side effects. But yes you are right, I'll split my answer appropriately.

42 & appointment today @ 12:55

Fair enough. You may be lucky, not everyone gets bad side effects even with AZ - and remember you get them largely out of the way with first dose, whereas with mRNA you get those effects on second dose so that'd be hanging over your head.

@MRex thank you. I will just go for it & hope for the best. 😁

Wannabegreenfingers · 01/05/2021 09:16

No side effects here on AZ.

theneverendinglaundry · 01/05/2021 09:22

I had my first dose of moderna yesterday, no side effects yet except a sore arm! 40, turning 41 in a couple of weeks.

Eccle80 · 01/05/2021 10:18

I think you hear most from the people who do get worse side effects with AZ. I had mine early yesterday afternoon, and without wanting to tempt fate, so far only minor side effects. Even for those who feel worse, it has normally passed within a couple of days, and I would much rather feel ill with vaccine side effects than take my chance with covid

NutellaEllaElla · 01/05/2021 10:19

AZ yesterday, no side effects

@MotherOfCrocodiles

If they don't know what vaccine they have where, does that mean they don't know if your 2nd dose will be the same one as first?
@MotherOfCrocodiles - you will only be able to book into a clinic for your 2nd dose that has the same type of vaccine as you had for your first. However, if you’re going for your 1st, you can’t guarantee which vaccine you’ll have on the day - it could be generally a Pfizer 1st and 2nd dose clinic, or an AZ 1st and 2nd dose clinic, or they might have 2 brands available that day and you don’t know which you’ll get.
tosspot · 01/05/2021 12:27

I have booked two people today for vaccines via national booking line:
one Guys Vaccine No 1 late this afternoon - i know will be Moderna
other Villa Park, Birmingham same time 4.30 I know will be AZ
I have just experimented again. I selected Islington Business Centre on 12 May and put in time. It asks if want 2nd dose there. Selected Put in a random postcode. It came up with following choices for 2nd dose: AFC Wimbledon, Ashton Gate Stadium, Elland Road, Guys Vaccine Centre 1, Islington Business Centre, Madejski Stadium Reading, Malvern Showground, Plymouth Argyle, Preston St Johns Stadium, Robinson House Stevenage, Tunstall, Stoke. Therefore I know that on 12th May at Islington Business Centre there will be moderna. The 2nd dose has to be the same vaccine as 1st. Therefore I can go back and book 2nd dose at Islington Business centre knowing it will be moderna if I wanted to. I have booked over 30 appointments this way for friends, family, colleagues. It works all the time. Some want a particular vaccine some do not care.

Wigeon · 01/05/2021 12:54

@tosspot - I still don’t understand how you know you’d definitely get Moderna at Islington Business Centre? Even if Guys Vaccine Centre 1 is doing Moderna today, you can’t guarantee that it will be tomorrow, or next week, or that it won’t have two vaccines on the same day.

Also, how did you know for sure that the two people you booked in today will be getting Moderna and AZ? Did the National Booking Service tell you?0

tosspot · 01/05/2021 13:24

@wigeon - its true if a centre is doing say moderna one day it isn't necessarily the next day. I selected Islington Business Centre on 12 May as an example. So put in date and time. If I book the 2nd dose at the same centre I am none the wiser about what it will be. However, if I select no for 2nd dose there which I did. I put in BN postcode for 2nd dose and it came up with the centres I mentioned for places where the 2nd dose can be. None of the choices were in Brighton but around the country. As there are so few I know they will be moderna or pfizer. If it was AZ at Islington Business Centre on 12 May I would have been given options in the Brighton area therefore I know it is not going to be AZ. I could if I wanted go back a few steps and book Islington B C on 12th May knowing I will get moderna/pfizer and then book my 2nd dose there. I actually did not as I was not booking anyone in today.
I booked the two at Guys No 1 and Aston Villa a couple of weeks ago both 4.30 today the same way as above. One wanted moderna or pfizer so Guys. The other not bothered. He will get AZ. I know this because of the 2nd dose options that came up.

They do know (I presume) but don’t make it public
QueenPaw · 01/05/2021 13:39

Vaccine centre was mega quiet this morning. I booked in and no wait, straight into a pod. One person in the after vaccine waiting area
Was in and out in 6 mins Grin (I waited in the car after)

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 01/05/2021 13:45

I am getting my first jab at 5pm today at Guy's. I have no idea which tent number I am or centre number. No idea what I will get. The only info I have is a booking ref, time and the Maze Pond Atrium address. No clue!

Eccle80 · 01/05/2021 13:45

Presumably though, although it only offers places that do moderna for the second one to cover you if you do get moderna, there is still a chance on the day of your first they might not be doing moderna, or might have some of both?

I did look at the three places closest to me which I had heard were doing moderna (which are all on your list!) but none of them had appointments for at least two weeks so I prioritized getting it sooner and had AZ yesterday.

Floofsquidge · 01/05/2021 13:56

Out of interest, how do you know where Moderna is available? I know Mad stad in Reading are as it was announced on various news articles when they first rolled out but I don't remember them listing all the places or any additions. Reading is my nearest but gave up trying to book it as never became an option and am travelling 20 miles away to Basingstoke (which I assume is AZ?)

Blueskytoday06 · 01/05/2021 13:57

Well I'm an hour post vaccine and my arm went dead straight away but other that nothing else.

Do none of your friends know how to use a computer tosspot?

My colleague went yesterday and it was Astra Zeneca. Will be interested to know what you friend gets as my appointment there is next week! (Nosey me Grin)

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 01/05/2021 14:06

@tosspot which site is Guy's 1? I am going to to the Maze Pond Atrium today. No idea which Centre it is!

That’s vaccine centre 1 yes, on Maze Pond Atrium. Hope all goes well!

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 01/05/2021 14:08

Atrium Vaccination Centre at Guy's is where I am going. Tbh I don't care which jab I get in the slightest - just keen to get it sorted and done.

Absolutely! Grin

Looks like a lot of us Londoners are going there. I was quite surprised that no local vaccine centres showed up for me and the only one in Greenwich borough that did show up, was the Excel Centre. The local ones must be doing second doses only.

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 01/05/2021 14:21

@chloedecker, I think the difference is that I booked via the national booking site just before I got the text from my GP. DH booked following the next from his GP and is getting it done at a small local centre in East Dulwich which is very close to where we live (10 mins on a bike!). I don't mind travelling to Guy's though - it's a trip out!

MRex · 01/05/2021 14:22
